GTD Timer 2012

Productivity Software > Productivity - Time Tracking Software

Tick Tock, Time to Get Things Done!

Please note folks, today's 100% off promotion is for the Lite version of GTD Timer 2012. The Lite version is limited to 10 presets.

There's the Getting Things Done (GTD) approach to productivity. There's also an entire universe of software-based countdown timers. But did you know that only ONE software application successfully bridges the gap between these two worlds? Introducing GTD Timer 2012!

Boasting an intuitive and clean interface, GTD Timer 2012 implements the GTD two-minute rule, although you can configure it to countdown to any period of time, or any time of day. What's the two minute rule? If a task can be done in two minutes or less, do it now! Budgeting your time this way gives you just as many benefits as budgeting money -- just decide how much time you're willing to spend on any particular task, set GTD Timer 2012 accordingly, and get going!

GTD Timer 2012 has a host of configurable options, making it the perfect fit for everyone. You can show the countdown in the system tray, as well as in a window. You can run multiple instances, for creating GTD tasks within GTD tasks! And when the countdown reaches zero, you can configure GTD Timer 2012 to play a sound, display a message (TAKE DINNER OUT OF THE OVEN), or run a command (open your email program, for example). The flexibility is amazing -- you can pause, stop, or restart your countdown at any time, plus let GTD Timer 2012 go into overtime, automatically restart, or quit completely!

webdancer Vyacheslav Koldovskyy, Thank you for offering this very nice tool as a free promotion! Will this license work on the portable version? Thanks again.
Apr 15 at 1:18am
Frank Mohnhaupt Installation don“t work. The program want a CD to install...

"keine Intallationsquelle vorhanden" - "No installations source"
Apr 15 at 1:37am
Vyacheslav Koldovskyy Dear webdancer, this license allows only one PC, it may be used as portable but at one PC only. If you have to switch between multiple computers you may use trial version on them. It won't require registration until expires.
Productivity Scientific Vendor - Apr 15 at 1:39am
Vyacheslav Koldovskyy Dear Frank, it shouldn't ask for CD.
Please send us on the e-mail from the support page (http://gtdtimer.com/support.html):
1) screenshot of the installer's message asking for disc;
2) description of your system (OS, hardware).

Mark Johnson I use the pomodoro technique in my daily work. One thing that many (most?) users of pomodoro look for in a timer is the ability to plan the pomodoros for the day, track the tasks being worked on in each pomodoro, track interruptions, unplanned work that comes up, then review how well you did at planning.

The purpose of the pomodoro technique is to get better at getting things done during the workday, and to get better at planning what CAN be done during the workday. These items listed above are all parts of the pomodoro technique; it is definitely not all about timing your work and breaks. If the software being used to time your pomodoros doesn't also take care of all these other things, you end up having to use a second piece of software or pen and paper to write everything down.

How many pomodoros did I complete today?
How many interruptions did I have, and during which pomodoros?
Which breaks lasted longer than the planned 5 or 15 minutes?
Which tasks took more pomodoros than I planned for, and which took less?
What new tasks came up during the workday?

There are several free pomodoro timers that track all these things, and they are all critical to doing pomodoro correctly. Considering the hefty price tag that is normally attached to this software, I really recommend that you take a look at the features available in the free pomodoro applications and at least make this software competitive with those apps.

Thanks,
Mark.

Vyacheslav Koldovskyy Thank you Mark for your suggestion. It's nice to meet a person who use pomodoro technique every day. As I personally use it too, I agree that pomodoro technique is more then just timing tasks. On the other side, I prefer not to overcomplicate things, and use GTD Timer not as task-management-time-tracking tool but as simple instrument helping just to get things done. And it perfectly fulfills this role.
Best!
Productivity Scientific Vendor - Apr 15 at 6:43am
Mark Johnson Hi, Vyacheslav, thanks for your response.

Since the Pomodoro technique requires keeping track of your daily expectations for how many pomodoros each task will take, recording how many pomodoros each task actually took, recording interruptions.... and then going over that entire list daily to see how well you did with pre-work estimates..... what software do you use in addition to GTD timer for that purpose? Do you record the pomodoros on paper and not on the computer at all?

Again, thanks for the response. I'm just curious why somebody would use a timer application and then use something completely separate for the necessary work of predicting, keeping track of, and then reviewing completed pomodoros.

Thanks,
Mark.

Petr Hello, If I get the Lite version in today's BitsDuJour promotion, can I later upgrade to the pro version? What will be the cost for such an upgrade?

I also would miss the full Pomodoro features, as Mark describes. Suggest you add such features to your next version, as that would make your software the top-pick in the personal productivity timer world. Thanks.

rodken For timer soft this seems to be exactly what they say it is! A lot of ways to configure it.
That being said.....
@Mark Johnson, to someone who uses the pomodoro technique from someone who is considering on using it, I was wondering which freeware (or pay) you use. As you know there are many more benefits in using such software compared to just using timers (unless that is all your looking for, not trying to say anything about this soft because it is great at what it does!).
Anyway thanks Productivity Scientific and Bits for your generosity as always!!
Apr 15 at 5:46pm
Mark Johnson @rodken, I use software that I wrote for myself to keep track of pomodoros. It works great for me, but I haven't made it publicly available (maybe someday I'll publish it as freeware).

I tried GTD timer earlier today; in my opinion it is a decent basic timer but is missing a lot of functionality for pomodoro technique that exists in many free alternatives. Do a google on pomodoro timer and you'll find plenty, or just take a look through the listings here:

Grateful Thank you for the free installation, but I am having trouble installing it. I have downloaded it a number of times and with each installation attempt, Notepad opens up empty, and that's it! Do you have any suggestions for me? I have never had anything like this happen to me before, and I haven't seen it mentioned yet on this page. As an .msi file, I cannot install it as an administrator; could that be a problem? I use Windows 7 64-bit.
Apr 15 at 9:53pm
Vyacheslav Koldovskyy Information for all users experiencing problems installing the software: please download portable version from Download section of gtd-timer.com website and use it instead. It's same by features but doesn't need installing.
