Hmm, an nice programmers editor with interesting features.
Working RegEx for multi lines search and replace.
Column edit to delete and/or enter text at all lines the same time.
Folding code, syntax highlighting, tools and help for every syntax.
(and all is customizing via XML (ini) files, no registry involved, fully portable stand alone? crazy, that's what *i* need)

A very very nice editor for coders,very elegant and powerful. I've already bought it at its normal price, but I don't regret it. The author answers very quickly in his forum, and above all, adds weekly features to HippoEdit.

I wanted a lightweight editor that has some features of an IDE.
That's IT.

I can't believe that I didn't stumbled upon it somewhere else earlier, but had to wait for it to appear on BDJ web which is not exactly where one would expect to learn about great programming tool.

What I like most about HippoEdit (after 2-3 days testing it) is how customizable it is, the bars (hierarchy, overview, navigation) - almost exactly what I was looking for in a new editor, syntax highlighting.
Overall I felt home from the first minute.

Yes, theoretically it is possible, for similar commands.

You can maintain any keyboard schema, have more than one schema, have more than one shortcut per command etc.

But till now there is no ready schema emulating vi. If you would prepare one, I can accept that as enough investment in HippoEDIT development to get a free license ;)

Und der Spaltenmodus funktioniert auch besser als in anderen Editoren.
Besonders gefält mir das das Teil portable ist (USB-Stick geeignet)
Und das alles für 15 DOllar = 11 Euro? Kaufen!
Besser als alles was ich bisher ausprobiert habe.

yes, you can copy complete HippoEDIT directory to USB stick and it would work without installation - HippoEDIT does not use the registry and stores whole configuration in xml config files in application directory (customizable).

When installing over a previous installation, check that all the features and options you want are being installed; newer versions may support more languages, etc. The registration key is mislabeled. It's not the stuff between the "Begin Key" and "End Key" lines, nor even including those lines. It's everything from the S/N line through the "End Key" line, including the dashes.

Hopefully I'll here something soon, but I can't risk my work to a product that, at least for me, is unstable.

Sorry for this. I think reason for error is timing of background jobs. The version was tested, but it is not possible to check all PC + OS configurations. Maybe with your help I can catch that bug.

One like it, one not. Or have not taken the time to digging deeper?

I on my one has dropped f.ex. TotalCommander more then once.
Today i am discover all the power of Total Commander
i am an big fan of it and use it all day.

I think it's they same with HippoEDIT?
You have to work a few weeks with an tool before you get familiar.
I did this and now i searched for an good price.
I miss this discount of HippoEDIT, but after reading the comments from the author i will buy it now even for $40 ;-)

I use my tools on many pcs, so is this editor "portable"?
And, I have tried your app and see it has a many great features
and is very fast, but i dont can find an macro tool, which i could ues from time to time. Can this be added as an plugin or so?
BTW, i was delighted to see the favorites for search and replace patterns, Great idea!, very usefull, and i alsosaw many such little gems there while playing around. But what i missing is an feature to add text in front of all lines, like put [TD] on pos1 of all selected lines.

Scripting/macro support is topic number one for coming 1.50 release. Macro recording/executing would use same syntax as scripting. Here is details about scripting architecture:

To put some text in front of lines you have several possibilities:
- use multi editing mode, select 0 column and type text you want
- use regular expression and Replace all (search for start of line)
- use Code Templates and tag %SelectedLine% then you can apply template for all lines in selection, so for whole document also

Hallo Besucher,
ich selbst benutze HippoEDIT bereits seit einem Jahr und bin sehr zufrieden damit. Ich habe ihn immer auf meinem USB-Stick dabei und benutze an jedem Computer die selben Einstellungen ;-)
Er ist dermaßen flexible dass man damit schöne Tricks machen kann wie zB eine Art Intelli_-_Sence(TM) ToolTips für Keywords inkl. deren Optionen. Man kann Suchen&Ersetzen auch mit Regulären Ausdrücken (Regular Expressions, RegEx) und diese Suchen auch als Templates abspeichern. Auch der
Spalten-Editier Modus (Column Edit) ist einfach Klasse: eine Spalte selektieren und in allen Zeilen mit einem Mal das Selbe eintragen. Und dann... STOP, ich könnte noch stundenlang weiter schwärmen, würde allerdings kein Ende finden, da HE jede Woche weiterentwickelt wird.
Ich hatte früher Freeware Editoren benutzt, hatte aber immer Problem wenn man mal mehr als das "Normale" damit machen möchte (Die "PowerUser" bzw. Admins unter Euch werden wissen was ich meine ;-) ) Ständig hatte ich Probleme bei Operationen die über mehrere Zeilen gehen. Das lag nicht an den anderen Entwicklern, sondern and der verwendeten Editor-Engine (Freeware halt, == kein Geld für besseres)

Und einen Top Programmers-Editor für 10 Euro
15 US$ = 10,0671141 Euro (Stand So. 18. Oct. 2009)
werdet Ihr so schnell nicht wieder finden, oder was meint Ihr?

P.S. dort bin ich mangels anderer Bewerber inzw. Mod und kann Eure Fragen gegebenenfalls auch auf deutsch beantworten.
Schaut doch mal vorbei und helft HippoEDIT NOCH besser zu machen.
Alexander ist sehr aufgeschlossen und für Verbesserungswünsche und Vorschläge immer offen.
Gefundene Fehler werden immer schnell behoben (JA! Fehler gibt es auch manchmal, aber, HEY! dies ist Version 1.4x und nicht 15.x ;D )

Good editor, great file support, nice working Syntax highlighting. Installed good with Vista for me. It works better like UltraEdit or others i had try. Thanks for the deal, your cheep price save me from using cracked text editor from rapidshare, which i was ever afraid for. now no more. I am not an programmer or coder or so, just now and then i need en editor allow me using block selection, or copy two blocks together. And also bookmarks and split view i like.

Hi, i use this great editor since maybe two years (from my chief)
and buy it last year for my own use at home and laptop. I recommend this editor to most of my co-workers (coders in different languages, system admins, even the secretary ;-) ) , (but not to them i don't like) some have buy it already, and thanks to the discount today two others are happy to get an own license too.

I on my own carry this little gem on my USB-Drive for every day use on different pcs. Now i am looking forward to 1.5 with scripting support (he he he ;-) )
