  The support from Exendo is superb. I know because, when History Explorer would not work on my XP, SP2 system, the developer went out of his way to help me, even though I'd downloaded the program from GOTD. The application never did track the file histories that I needed, so I had to give up on it. However, the fact that I do not store important documents in the standard My Documents folder, probably caused or at least contributed to my difficulties. That was back in March and the problem has likely been fixed by now.

  Very good software. It has an intuitive interface and has saved me loads of work. History Explorer is not just a backup solution, it can also function as a document collaboration and document versioning tool.

  I recently wrote the author about a minor bug not saving window size, and some feature requests. He responded quickly and provided a thorough reply. He is open to suggestions and promises a quick fix on the"bug". For $5.99 you can't go wrong, and I`m willing to bet he'll improve it even more..

  History Explorer is a really fine tool for preserving the history of a file. I am using the trial version and it runs without any problems. A big advantage compared to other tools is that you can select on folder respectively file level individually if you want to preserve a history or not. The GUI itself is intuitive and easy to use thus you can directly use the application.
  
  Nevertheless, some smaller improvements could be made in future, e.g.:
  - a list containing all files that are currently under history control
  - support for external storage, e.g. on an external drive (this option is currently a little bit hidden, i.e. you have to move the database location to an external storage.
  
  All in all, I can recommend History Explorer, especially for the BitsDuJour price!

  Version 2.1 is already planed for early autumn and upgrades to any 2.x versions are included in the license.

  I just saw your video and liked what I saw and am looking forward for this offer with a very attractive price.
  
  But now I tried it out on two different computers (both with XP) and run into the same strange behaviour.
  
  (1) When going to c:\ and trying to include an existing .txt-file ('Include file in backup'I just got the message 'Please try again'. And no star at the left of the file.
  
  (2) When doing 'Include Folder In Backup' and chosing 'Include Folder' , not all files are included. As it seems to me only the .txt-files are; e.g. .pdf-files are not.
  
  Perhaps (1) und (2) are restrictions for the trial version?
  
  (3) After playing around a little I got a java-exception. In the timeline area of the window noting is displayed any more, except a white square with red borders and two red diagonals crossing the square. Closing the program and restarting it does not change at this. (Probably rebooting the computering would help). Before this happens I was wondering, that the rectangles, displaying the file-versions are not going to the right window. They stop somewhere before. And not all at the same right-position. Perhaps this has to do with the exception...

  (1) and (2) are not restrictions in the trial version. It seems you have run in to a program error of some sort. Please contact us on support@exendo.se and I will dig into it.
  (3) is even more strange since History Explorer doesn't even use Java. Please send me an email and I will be more than glad to help you out.

  If your using a number of apps and saving to various locations it's easy to loose sight of all your changes. This program will keep you well informed of your file modifications in a user friendly time line and tree format with user nominated tracking folders and files. A terrific program backed up by an active author that listens to user suggestions and is continually improving an already impressive utility. I have been using History Explorer for around a year and would recommend it to all.

  I agree with all the comments made by Glenn H. this is an excellent, stable product. For $5.99 its an absolute bargain. I'll be buying another licence to use on my laptop.

  I haven't found any of these types of version control apps that I like. Version 1.1 of History Explorer was on Giveaway of the Day, and it was so buggy that I'm not even going to try this version. FileHamster is ultra-sophisticated, but does some things which I don't like, and because it modifies filenames to track files, it can't handle long filenames (stupid design decision). DocShield is free for personal use, but it's buggy, and only checks for changes at intervals (and you'll need to change the default paths).

  The license policy is: One license per computer no matter how many users. So in your case you would need 2 licenses.
  
  The license is for life and includes any upgrades within version 2.X.

  Hi. I find this application a very useful one and am planning to buy a couple of licenses. My only doubt is about memory consumption. In my only test, in a Windows 7 x86 machine, the program "eats" as much as 25-30MB while running in the background, even with no folders to monitor in the include list. Is this normal?

  Let me respond to some of them.
  
  Joshua: Yes a license is transferable, and there is no process needed. In fact one license can be used on several computers, but the license policy limits you to use it on one computer.
  
  Albert: I'm glad you like the program. History Explorer is developed in Microsoft .Net which means that it is slightly more memory consuming at the same time .Net works in such a way that it uses more memory when memory is available. Which means that when you are using most of the computers memory HE will reduce it's consumption.
  
  Edwards: History Explorer does run on Windows 7. Give it a try :)

  PayPal seems to be working now with the RegNow site that is processing the orders. When I made my purchase a few minutes ago using PayPal and Firefox, processing seemed slow in going from one screen to the next, but everything went through fine.

  1. Yes, it works fine on Windows 7.
  2. If a file is locked, in a way that the file can't even be copied, the versioning will not work. So far this has never been an issue.

  For upgrades to major versions we always give existing customers a special offer. I cannot say exactly what that offer will be.
