Home Cookin Recipe Software

A Superb Recipe Organizer and More

Home Cookin Recipe Software
Tools & Utilities

With Home Cookin, you can store and organize all of your recipes on your computer, and add more at anytime as you find them in books, magazines, or on the internet. For each recipe, there's plenty of space to add your own personal notes and it's simple to add images and photos. You can even import recipes from other recipe programs. But the best part? You can bring your recipes with you on a USB flash drive!

The program also has advanced abilities that scan your collection to detect duplicate recipes, even if they have different titles. You can plan meals up to two years in advance and produce grocery shopping lists that include pricing and that are sorted by store and location.

Home Cookin Recipe Software gives you what you're missing when you use handwritten index cards - the ability to search recipes by title or ingredient, plus the ability to exclude specific ingredients from the search (good for food allergies and fussy eaters). You can also automatically resize recipes, so your beloved pimiento dip, normally for four, can be expanded to serve 24 if someone (YOU!) gets POTLUCKY!

If you miss preparing a dish off of printed instructions, no worries. Home Cookin Recipe Software lets you print any recipe to an index card, or even to letter-sized paper so that you can create your own cookbooks as gifts! And if someone asks you for that pimiento dip recipe, you can email it to them right from within Home Cookin Recipe Software!

Who Needs Home Cookin Recipe Software?
You do if you've ever:

  • Maintained a collection of recipes on handwritten index cards, and wanted a better way to preserve them.
  • Wanted a way to quickly search your recipe collection based on what you had on hand.
  • Needed to filter your recipe selection due to food allergies.
  • Wanted a program that produced shopping lists based on the recipes that you've selected.

Reviews & Testimonials:

  • “If you'd like to have a comfortable replacement of a greasy and floured cookbook, make sure to have a copy of Home Cookin on your hard drive!”- Review, 32DF.com
  • “I simply love this program. I've had several cookbook programs over the years and find Home Cookin to be the most user friendly, easy and versatile program I've ever had. I can do everything I want to do - print recipes, enter my own recipes, copy and paste recipes from other sources and email recipes. Keep up the good work!”- L. Markwald
  • “Thank you so much for your reply and the fact that Home Cookin will work on Vista. I especially appreciate not having to pay a large amount to have it do so. Many of the cookbook creators are pricing themselves out of the market with their "Vista Updates". Out of about 7 different computer cookbooks (I collect the cookbooks and recipes), only 3 will work on Vista.”- B. Beers
  • “A brief note to let you know I absolutely love the Home Cookin software. I had been looking at so many other versions from others, and I'm thrilled that I decided on yours. To be able to import/export/paste etc., is so nice. The ability to create new categories and duplicate recipes is so great. I thank you so very much....you've created a wonderful product!”- L. Augustin

Can this program import recipes from plain text like ShopNCook software does? Sounds great but getting hundreds of recipes into it via cut and paste won't be worth it.

It says it imports from "other recipe software"--what ones exactly?

    Thanks!

I tried to create PDF-files from entries in the demo-db, but somehow the pictures are not involved in the PDF.

    Gail,

Yes, Home Cookin can import from plain text files (or from text copied to Windows clipboard from web pages, email, or other apps). The manual import screen will let you define which lines of the text are the title, ingredients, and directions.

Home Cookin can also import the following formats automatically (without manual intervention): Mastercook, Meal-Master, Big-Oven, Cookbook Wizard, From Scratch, From My Kitchen, Living Cookbook, Now You're Cooking, Recipe Processor, and Computer Chef.

    Peter,

The PDF Book feature is currently limited to text only and does not support photos at this time.

    Hello Anthony,

do you plan to include the pictures in the next version?

Photo printing is already supported in the normal print operations, but I am planning to add photo support to the PDF feature as well in a future update. However, I do not have an estimate of when it will be implemented.

Couldn't a user thus use a PDF virtual printer (like the free PDF Creator) to print the photos with text to their own PDF? At least until your software incorporates it directly...

    Doug,

Yes, you can print to a virtual PDF printer but it won't have the proper "gutters" for a printed cookbook (different margins on left and right sides of opposite pages), won't have a title page, and won't have an index at the end. Otherwise a virtual PDF printer should work fine.

    Dale,

The purchase link should be active through the 12th, so if the Plimus/PayPal link isn't working today you can try again in a day or two. Sorry for the inconvenience.

A question about the database: is there a size limit and/or a limit of entries that might slow down the program when exceeded? And: can the DB be located at a special location (partition, mybe) to include it in an existing backup routine?

The technical limit is approximately 2 Billion recipes, but you're likely to run out of disk space before then. I ran tests years ago with several hundred thousand recipes on an old P4 computer and didn't detect any significant slowdowns. More current computers should have no problems with a million or more recipes.

You can't change the location of the database, but you can install Home Cookin to any drive or folder you wish. The program files are just over 1 meg in size (less than a single digital photo), so they won't consume much of your backup space. In addition, backing up both the program and data files will make recovering much easier if you should have problems in the future.
