The Ultimate in Lists

*** Great News! Ilium Software has agreed to extend this deal for another day - Enjoy! ***

So, you're ready for the big meeting. The flight wasn't too bad, the airline managed not to lose your luggage, and you even got caught up on your email with the wireless internet in your hotel room. You've got your meeting notes ready and are packing plenty of business cards. Your phone charging, your laptop is is charging, and you're just about ready to watch a little TV before you hit the sack.

Too bad you forgot your shoes.

Yes, in all your careful getting ready with your hotel info, meeting supplies, clothes, toiletries, and everything else, you managed to forget your work shoes, and are going to have to go to your all-important meeting in your sneakers. Now how are you going to get to sleep!

Too bad you didn't use ListPro. You'd have checked off everything on your list, gotten enough sleep, and would be watching TV with all the shoes you need.

Thanks

Dierk ListPro has been a long-time favorite, both on desktop as well as several Windows Mobile PDA/Smartphones.

Alas, there is no version for Android. Even worse, have not been able to find a suitable replacement that runs on Android.
Feb 26 at 7:21am
Danny Suitable for only two platforms like Windows 7 + 8, is that correct?

Dierk Danny Thys - Suitable for only two platforms like Windows 7 + 8, is that correct?

Well, there is a mobile version that still runs on Windows Mobile 6.x (& earlier).

And you can Export lists in several formats - but without a True Sync to a modern mobile OS (Android, iOS, or Windows Mobile 8), ListPro is less useful than previously.

Although the Desktop version is still pretty!

Ilium Software Hi Danny,

Yes, the Widows PC version of ListPro is for Windows 7 & 8 (Desktop) although you'll likely find it works on XP and Vista too; we just don't test on those platforms any longer.

The PC version does do full item level sync with the iPhone version (Dierk, you may be looking at an older version) using a local WiFi network.

Michael R. So, is there any Android version planned in a near future?
Is it free for today's buyers?
Feb 27 at 12:25am
Ilium Software No Android version planned in the short term. If we do an Android version, it would likely be a separate purchase through the Google Play store.

Thanks,
Ken

Omar Bellal Does ListPro have a feature to add notes to a to-do list item (like Swift To-Do does)? If yes, is there any size limit to such notes? This feature will determine whether I buy or not.

Thanks
Feb 27 at 11:18am
Ilium Software @Omar: Yes, you can have a note field for every item. I don't have access to the office today so I can't give you a size, but you can check out the 30-day trial and see if it will meet your needs:

NK Awesome product! My whole life is stored in ListPro. I've been using it since September, 2001. In fact, it is the only reason I will be buying an iOS device instead of an Android device. I have found no better replacement. The speed, reliability and flexibility is what keeps me with LIstPro.
Feb 27 at 2:30pm
Ilium Software @NK: Thanks very much for the kind words!

Omar Bellal Thanks Ken. I downloaded the trial version and the notes field size is more than enough.

I wish there was an easier way to increase the font for everything, like one button to increase / one button to decrease.

Otherwise, a great app. Thanks

Robert Skinner I was looking for something like this not that long ago. Can this program install to a USB drive. It would be perfect if it was portable so I don't have to install it on my work machine.
Feb 27 at 8:48pm
Javier Gil I'm going to download the desktop version and try it out, but the fact that there isn't an Android version (even one that I had to buy on its own) is definitely a stop sign for me...
Feb 28 at 1:04am
D T What is the latest version? I have been using 5.1.1.2041 for a few years, and I don't see any sign on the website that a newer is available.
Feb 28 at 6:50am
robert gamson I read the text size could be changed through the Edit Properties tabs but that route does not lead to the option. Please explain.

Michael R. For calculation, can I calculate with a return-value of an external called program?
E.g. one which evaluates some actual internet adresses and calculates a value out of it and stores it inside a file.

Randy Niven Purchased the paid version in 2011 for Windows (this was also the last time the Windows version was updated). It's great software but as others have noted, there is no Android version.

Based on the last several years experience with them I wouldn't buy their software unless they start to provide more active support of their products and update them to stay up with market standards (i.e., the market and similar products continue to advance, add new features, etc., but Ilium Software is lagging behind with several of their products, pricing structures, etc.).

Jan-Christoph Ihrens @D T: A few days ago I downloaded the current version, and it still was version 5.1.1.2041.

In June 2011 (!) I asked if a very disturbing bug could finally be fixed - keyboard shortcuts such as the AltGr key don't work in ListPro 5.1. As a German, I'm unable to enter square brackets, braces, backslashes, e-mail adresses (the @ is missing), Euro signs, pipe symbols and tilde symbols. As a web developer who creates and maintains lists with all kind of technical information, I'm using most of these characters quite frequently, and it is very annoying to have to type them in another editor and to copy them into ListPro. If I don't pay attention, I just leave these characters out by mistake, which could render the note I take down completely useless (think of regular expressions, for example).

The answer was: "Unfortunately, I just don't know what changes we will be making to ListPro in the future, or what timeframe we will be working on.

What do you sync ListPro with? If you are only using it on your PC, or if you are using it with a Windows Mobile device, and if you are not using the rich-text Notes options, you could go back to using ListPro 4.1."

When I told them that I didn't want to downgrade and much preferred the bug to be fixed, I was told the following: "Sorry for your frustration. eWallet is the product that keeps us in business and makes ListPro possible. Without eWallet there would be no ListPro. As a result, eWallet gets the focus of our resources. Although we have not abandoned ListPro (we released ListPro for iPhone for instance), we can't devote the resources to it that we can focus on eWallet. That means that ListPro updates don't come as often as eWallet updates.
We do intend to put in the fix you are asking about although we just don't know when that will happen. In the meantime, although the statement that we are working on a fix is true, we've removed it from the Knowledge Base to avoid misunderstanding."

Don't get me wrong - I still love and use ListPro (I didn't find an appropriate replacement, and I would have to migrate all my lists). But you shouldn't expect any updates soon, if ever.

Nico Westerdale Ilium Software has a special place in our hearts here at BitsDuJour. Over five years ago Ellen Craw, who works for Ilium, started BitsDuJour as a blog. The website changed hands to us about a year later, many years later and several rewrites of the website you have the BitsDuJour that you see today. So without Ilium there would be no Bits!

Lew Phillips It seems quite odd that you can't put the notes where you want. The program forces you to put them in the "Documents\ListPro\Synchronized ListFiles" directory. Even going into the registry won't help as it apparently is hard coded.

Why can't we put the files where we want?

Javier Gil Ok, after testing it, I did buy this. It's really a lot more versatile than I expected and has many useful features, easy to use, export functions, etc. The following excellent review by people who knew a lot about the subject did help me in deciding to purchase it: http://www.donationcoder....ic=27802.0

I'm very happy with it. I hope they do develop an android version one day, but meanwhile, the desktop version is excellent.

webdancer ListPro is a awesome list manager. I've been using it daily since 2003. The calculated fields and display customization options are great (too bad they changed from the clear, easy-to-see icons in ver 4.x and reduced the number of available icon options).

It would be nice if they had a way to allow the export and import of category field data to a file. The currently displayed category items are exported when a list is exported, but after creating a lot of category values, it would be nice to be able to manipulate them as a group.

Since I'm on an unsupported platform (and have a seriously old-school PDA) and the new version doesn't appear to offer me anything new and desirable, I'll pass on this. But if you have any of the few platforms they currently support, this is a good deal and you'll find the software very useful and fun to use.

ETA: I also agree with the posters who wrote that Ilium need to do a better job of maintaining and updating the software.

Gren Bingham As a long time ListPro user I am dumbfounded at how Illium has conspired to kill this really excellent product by not making it available on Android.

There is a reasonable and FREE Android alternative available now called FetchNotes at http:/www.fetchnotes.com. It works, I have used it for four months now It does not offer all the built in functionality and structure of ListPro, but you can make it do pretty much what is needed from a list manager. It is available on iPhone, Android, Windows PC, and even Macs.

I am so dismayed at the short sighted behaviour by Illium. I still keep a copy of ListPro on my iPhone and PC, but if I cannot get cross-platform access using the cloud ...... well you all know what I am saying, too bad Illium doesn't. I have asked them for several years for an Android version (Illium, see my contact forms.)

Gina Anderson No Android version? Bummer! I was going to buy this up until I read that. I need something my husband and I can use on our phones too. I have iPhone, but he has Android, and I may be going to Android as well. Oh well, back to texting the grocery and task lists.
Mar 2 at 6:02am
Gren Bingham Hi Gina ... look at FetchNotes ...built in free synch between all platforms.
Mar 2 at 6:16am
Jim Bielick Gren - thanks for the reference. I have an iPhone but only for another 6 months, at which point I am trashing it for another Android that will actually let me do what I want to do instead of what Apple wants me to do. What a mistake that was! Lack of Android support makes today's deal useless for me.

Joshua Margolis I have been using ListPro for many years and actually rely on it for my business and cannot switch unless something else comes along, nothing has. Many people have been asking for an Android version since 2009, if they needed funds the Android version may have been the answer. I recently gave up my Windows Mobile and refused to get an iPhone even though I really rely on ListPro for my business, I got an Android and could not be happier. I need to bring my laptop everywhere instead.

Pro's
Lots of functions
User friendly
Small Program, uses little resources
Can be ran from a USB drive ( sort of )
Calculations is nice
Filtering is good
View is nice and easy to see

Cons
No major updates in like 6 years
Android version is unlikely to be created
Company has basically abandoned the product
User fields is limited to 25 + 7 system ( needs like 50+ )
Cannot compute on a computed field
No way to filter between two date ranges
No way to filter on items without a date ( using the date field )
No way to use more then one dynamic calculation
No filter favorites
No shared fields across lists in the same file
Formatting is limited

I really like ListPro and will continue to use it. I would happily purchase an Android version and a new Desktop version should the above enhancements be included. You need to determine what you need from program and see if this works for you. Even though the is no more development, the product is very mature and still will be useless for most people.

Frank Stephens ListPro is a good deal at $10. It uses space for keeping track of items to be synchronized even if you tell it that you're not going to be synchronizing. For Android users, you can create lists in Google Docs on your Google Drive. Those are inherently multi-platform, and a printed page and a pen are smaller and lighter than any smartphone. Lists in Google Docs are easy to create and print, but not so great for interactivity. ListPro is great for interactive lists. Clearly, some people have uses for this type of software, I'll have to decide if I'm one of them. I have time-management software to keep track of things to do, and a piece of paper is more convenient (to me) for grocery lists. There are lots of little databases for entering custom fields and searching, sorting, etc. I used to use one years ago on my Linux-based Sharp Zaurus and my PC, it was multi-platform.
