If you're like us and find yourself continually working with text, you've probably found yourself wondering why software developers can't seem to build decent font browsers into their products (and yes, we're talking about YOU, Microsoft Office).
Fortunately, there's an answer. MainType is a powerful but easy to use font manager and font viewer that takes all the frustration out of managing your fonts.
No more frantic scrolling through long, cluttered lists of font names. No more confusing 'Baskerville' with 'Bodoni'. MainType is packed with tons of intuitive features that make it simple to find, preview, organize, install, and print your fonts.
The software includes filter and sort functionality, immediate system-wide font synchronization, and does away with the need to refresh font lists or reboot the computer after font installation. MainType's primary font information pane reveals important typographic data about each character set, and a groups pane helps you quickly and intuitively organize all your fonts.
Give MainType a try today! Trust us, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.
Does this software solve the problem of only half my font collection appearing in the Photoshop font dropdown list?
It depends on the exact cause of the problem. It could be that the Adobe font cache is corrupt, that one or more of your fonts are corrupt, or that the number of installed fonts is simply too much for either Windows or Photoshop to handle. MainType can't fix a corrupt cache, but it CAN detect corrupt fonts. We typically recommend that you have no more than 500 fonts installed, and on older systems with limited memory (Windows Me with 128 MB RAM, for example) you should have no more than 100 active fonts. To ensure you can use as many fonts as you like, you can use MainType to organize your fonts into groups and quickly load or unload them as needed.
A great tool for loading fonts in groups depending on the purpose. One set for formal reports, another set for creative work, etc. Load on the fly keeps the number of core fonts down. It also helped me identify that I had the same font loaded under two names -- one from Bitstream and one from Adobe.
Because I used fonts on my websites and Photoshop, I need a viewer and manager instead of always saying "use font" to see what the selected font looks like. I have 1760 fonts gathered over the past 17 years. I am lucky that the files are not corrupt. MainType detected all of them and has let me manage them. I "mainly" like being able to view them all and make my selections for the task at hand. This program has saved me a lot of time, money and frustration. I bought this from Bits about six or seven months ago. Lucky for those of you who did not get it back then. Snap it up while you can.
