Securely Archive Anything and Everything!

Got sensitive documents or images that need protecting? Do you also need to make sure that the aforementioned documents and images stay organized to your specific needs?

myVault does exactly that! In a nutshell, it's the digital equivalent of a filing cabinet and safe combined into a single, intuitive utility. Think of it as a TODO program in reverse -- a place to keep details of the past, not the future. A place to securely archive anything and everything!

myVault makes it simple to store information and documents -- encrypted or not -- and to easily find, view, and edit them. It's ideal for storing photos, images, passwords, serial numbers, eBooks, receipts.

Genie au Travail Thank you, it's always a pleasure to get a giveaway!

bob roos I downloaded the trial version. It appears that is not an install/setup program, but the MyVault program itself? How does one get it into Program Files so that it can be launched from the Start Menu?

Another question, If you have a sensitive file on your disk and you move it into the vault, how do you know that no part of that document is left behind on the hard drive?
Mar 11 2012 at 1:28am
Alexander Deliyannis First of all, I appreciate the giveaway; the program looks interesting and useful.

Unfortunately, even though I consider myself quite a knowledgeable Windows user, I ran into a serious dead-end: it seems that the program can only be ran by the PC's administrator. I assumed that this was for the first run only, but myVault insists on creating its database under the current user's (in this case the administrator's) My Documents folder. No matter what changes I made to the preferences, it seems impossible to make it accept any other folder; after restart, it re-creates the database in the default position.

I am my own administrator in my PC, but I use a non-administrator account for just about everything, for safety reasons. It seems strange that a program aimed at providing security does not cater for my approach. Could I be missing something?

@ Bob: Copy the myVault Windows folder under a permanent location, e.g. Program Files (x86). Then, holding down the Alt key, drag and drop the myVault.exe file to the desired position in the Start Menu. This will create a shortcut there.

Mar 11 2012 at 4:36am
Steve Cholerton @Alexander Logon as the non-admin user and run myVault, it will create the folders appropriately.

Steve Cholerton @bob If you 'Move' a file into the vault an operating system move is done, so in that respect it's as 'secure' as a traditional move done from the UI or command line.

Nico Westerdale We're glad you guys are enjoying the 100% Off deal!
BitsDuJour Admin - Mar 11 2012 at 6:04am
Alexander Deliyannis @Steve Thanks for the quick reply; unfortunately when running the program as a normal user for the first time I get an application ClassType Mismatch Exception error and it shuts down. That's why I used admin rights in the first place.

P.S. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, but the program files are under the x86 program directory so that shouldn't be an issue.

Steve Cholerton @Alexander. That's interesting, we don't actually test in a specific Win64 + Non Admin configuration. I'll get that setup in the office tomorrow and see what's the issue. Sorry for your trouble. - Steve

Steve Cholerton We are very interested in your opinions on the way forward for this product in terms of features and functionality. Please send all feedback to steve@artenscience.com Cheers - Steve
Arten Science Vendor - Mar 11 2012 at 10:39am
Steve Cholerton @Alexander - I have just re-read your comment. Yes, myVault will always re-create the database at the Documents location, BUT if you copy this folder structure elsewhere and change the location from the Preferences window to the location you have copied the database to, then restart myVault - it will use the new location.

Leave the original myVault folder in the Documents folder, that way myVault will know you have already installed, and use then it will load the database from the new location.

This behaviour is designed so that new users will always get a database in the same place, for Power Users tho' it's not optimal.
Arten Science Vendor - Mar 11 2012 at 10:44am
Alexander Deliyannis Thanks; copying did the trick. I think I had tried moving it earlier on. So to recap the procedure for anybody else in a similar set up:

- Run Vault as the administrator for the first time, in order for it to create its database in the default location (My Documents\myVault); note that "My Documents" will be under the admin's account.

- Change the default directory in Preferences to your desired one (it should be accessible by the normal user account). Exit myVault.

- Copy the myVault folder structure from the default location to the new one.

- Start myVault as the normal user.

Genie au Travail Just a question for the developer :
Can I edit a file directly from within the vault (without having to extract it first) ?
Mar 11 2012 at 11:54am
William McKeever This was a surprise! Thank you very much.
Mar 11 2012 at 12:21pm
Steve Cholerton @Genie. Vault Items are created and edited within the program, documents that are not encrypted can be launched and edited, but encrypted documents have to be de-crypted before use.

I hope this answers your question.

Cheers - Steve

Herman Carnell McCrea Hello and thank you for such a generous offer of a very useful program. I downloaded and 'installed' it on my desktop and later in the day, when I attempted to do the same on my laptop, after using the same key code, the program twice locked up so I quit, thinking there was a check disallowing a double 'installation'. I see now that you do permit desktop and laptop use and I would appreciate learning how to go about getting out of the conundrum because late last night when I again tried the code, after having shut down and restarted the laptop, I was told that the code was invalid. Thank you very much in advance for your time and trouble in the timely resolution of this issue. Hermano2020 at verizon.net.

Lazar Voin Great software , do most of the time does not recognise the page it should fill !!!
Mar 19 2012 at 10:06am
Mark Bailey Lazar - I have no idea what you meant to say ?
Mar 20 2012 at 9:56am
Lazar Voin I have had 3 hardware drives from U in the last 3 years at $29.95 /Yr.
Your software as well at "Roboform's" one do not fill and recognise all the login widows they are supose to fill i.e. "Facebook" "Tipradar" and other where it is prefilled with the sample password and name, tells you is no place to fill...
I can collect all of them iget if you ned do at this time I,m using "Roboform everywhere"...
Mar 20 2012 at 1:10pm
Steve Cholerton @Lazar - I think you have us mixed up with another company. We do not sell any hardware, so we didn't supply any disks to you.

Also we don't supply Roboform or any other software designed to fill in the passwords on web pages. I believe 1 Password is good for that if that's what you are looking for.

Cheers - Steve
