NoteFrog Professional

"273-374-9984 ext.35"
"DiPalma's Pizza on 3rd"
"Little Bobby's Birthday 4/8"
"Google: Gogol"
"Pitch Brand Name: Squiggles"
"Milk, TP, Celery, Onion, Crackers"
"Copy all .xls files to hard-drive before Wednesday's clean-out"

All important, and all essentially useless -- a dank bayou of misplaced information -- without a sound system of navigation and retrieval.

NoteFrog keeps every bit of information organized, accessible and meaningful. Breaking away from conventional spreadsheet systems of information management, NoteFrog uses an open-ended, amendable system of stacks to organize your notes. Allowing you to organize information in a way that makes sense to you. Have a stack for work, or each individual project at work. Have a stack for reminders, phone numbers, important dates, things to youtube at work, things to youtube at home, potential names for the puppy, research, finances, purchase dates and warranties, accounts numbers, passwords -- the possibilities are as endless as language itself!

Once everything is stacked NoteFrog's supersearch will quickly guide you to the information you need. From the first letter you type, in NoteFrog's search box, candidates are selected from your Active stack. Once you've whittled it down to the note you need, just click and read.

NoteFrog also features tagging capabilities and the "clipboard capture" feature which is great for quickly gathering large chunks of information and safely filing it away in the stacks. So when you need it the NoteFrog can retrieve it.

Written by Andrew Dick

NoteFrog Professional lets you:

  • Quickly generate free-form notes and file them in appropriate stacks.
  • Cross-reference notes.
  • Find the information you need instantly with supersearch.
  • Enable/disable images.
  • Enable/disable stack password protection.
  • Capture and incorporate elements from you computer's clipboard.

Who Needs NoteFrog Professional?
You do if you've ever:

  • Made a note to yourself, then lost it.
  • Wanted an information solution system that was appropriate for all the different types of information that you manage.

Real Users Say:

  • “First, this may be the greatest single feature I've found in any program in the last ten years. That little "web page" is amazing! :-D I beg you never to discard this particular feature; it is one of those things I'd never imagined but will now be unable to live without since I'm aware it's possible. IMO, this at least triples NoteFrog's excellence as a research tool. ”- Ray
  • “Yes, it's like strolling back to "DOS" days when I had "MemoryMate" in my old computer but this "amphibian" is even better. ”- Alwi
  • “Hi, I am disabled. I have only the use of my right arm and hand.I use NoteFrog all day everyday. It saves me tons of time and energy.I love the changes in this new version of NoteFrog.Being able to pin an item to the top of the stack is GREAT.I also appreciate being able to publish a stack to a webpage. The drag-and-drop also seems much improved. It runs flawlessly on Windows 64-bit.Thank you for making such a useful product.”- Jodi
  • “NoteFrog is basically a free-form database meant to hold anything you throw at it without taking the time to find a category for it, and still be capable of easily finding that information later. The “Super Search” and tags system make this possible and they work quite well. I like using it for all the notes I used to keep on papers all over my desk. I started by entering each scrap I found there into a separate note, then shredding all the paper. Now my desktop looks neater and I can actually find the information! ”- Lynn
  • “This might just be the perfect notebook for creative minds. While I can quite understand that some folks don’t need an application like this, and many would be baffled by its unusual “4-dimensional” approach, it’s EXACTLY what is needed by inventors, philosophers and crazy artistic types:Thousands of free-form, unstructured notes that can be- swiftly searched, in a simple OR complex manner- categorized by adding custom tags ANYwhere in a body of text ***** (… thus enabling a single concept to be easily linked to various different categories where it might also be relevant - an essential feature for brainstorming; capturing ideas in their spontaneous order and organizing in logical order later. This alone makes it a keeper!)- grouped and regrouped as the Muse dictates- illustrated with images- highlighted with rich text formatting- selectively password protected- captured via the clipboard automatically or manually- imported and exported in any textual format- arranged into “stacks”, just like you would do with bits of paper- filtered to provide a concise overview of related topics or keep track of a specific train of thought- and more… see their quicktour, support and faq:”- FreeESpirts
  • “So then I can automatically capture clipboard snippets AS WELL AS consciously putting in notes purposefully?? With the one app? Seems to me that is a genius combination of TWO different utilities, for which I am using two separate programs.. and I can see a 1+1=3 bonus potential here”- Syd R
  • “The interface is clean and this little gem works fine on my Windows Vista H.P. (SP1) I value anything that saves ALL my entered data as my time is valuable. P.S. I installed this on a USB 2GB FlashDrive Stick just in case i happened to want to take it with me. And passworded it’s access also! 9/10 in my book…!”- Stan
  • “The search method, including complex searches, and the way the results are displayed as you type, is like nothing I have seen before- the closest being the Firefox edit/find for webpages. I have tried almost every program mentioned so far, and they are all too simple and structured for my needs. I keep going back to good old Keynote, a note manager that set the standard in its day, and many of us still feel remains the best one out there, hands down. The search power and the great free-form string-match result of NoteFrog is wonderful. I think this might be my new friend.”- Justin
  • “ I'm really impressed - you come in a close second when it comes to user support to the best I've ever experienced - and, since that best makes WordPerfect's legendary original support look lame, that's a remarkable statement. :-)”- R. B. Johnson

How many machines can we install Notefrog under your EULA - just one machine, or a desktop plus laptop, or desktop plus laptop plus netbook?
Is there an easy way to keep machines synchronized - say by keeping a single database file sychncronized?
    What is your upgrade policy?
    THANKS!

With one license, you may install NoteFrog on one machine for any number of users or on multiple computers for a single user.

At present we do not have our synchronization capability finalized. It is still under development.

A NoteFrog license purchased at this time will be valid for (at least) all version 1 releases.

    Thank you for your interest.

Wow -- with NoteFrog, you may have just ended an up-to-now discouraging software search!

Ever since I realized that Info Select -- my most important piece of utility software now for years (my LIFE is in my InfoSelect data base!) -- has not been upgraded to run with Vista (which I didn't want but ended up with when I bought a new computer), I've been searching for another software that would fit the bill that IS fits so well. I've loved InfoSelect -- haved used it since it was a DOS program called Tornado -- and have resisted using my new computer just because the current version of InfoSelect won't on run on it properly.

But now I have read about NoteFrog and it sounds so much like the main and best function of IS -- namely, providing a way to manage random information -- that I am very excited and will definitely try it. If it can only just do that one thing as well as InfoSelect has all these years (boy, those developers sure missed the boat not keeping their product upgraded; I never would have considered switching if they had!), it will be worth its weight in golden RAM! I can't wait to try it to see if it is the answer to my quest.

    Charlotte,
I too have used InfoSelect for a while and I like it pretty good. They had added so much to it that I didn't use it for quite a while, but about 6 months ago, I got back into it. I know they are working on a new version, and it's in Alpha, so probably eventually it will be out.
Now back to NoteFrog. I will buy this program also, because for $10, I think it will do what MemoryMate did for me many many years ago, which is keep track of my random info. InfoSelect has lots of features but there is a lot there to learn and use, and I want something that's easier for a lot of my stuff.
    NoteFrog looks good to me.

    Hi Charlotte,

Actually, our use of InfoSelect and our inability to find a suitable replacement, served as a basis for the development of NoteFrog.

And yes, Alan, NoteFrog has been been compared favorably to MemoryMate by several former MemoryMate users.

And, there's more to come :)

    cheers

    Charlotte , Alan, and Berry,

This is amazing! I used Tornado Notes and then its successor, Info Select, under DOS for years. I figured I was the only one still alive who had. I had never found anything under Windows that could come close. The Info Select Windows version really lost its way- I bought one of the early Windows versions and it had simply lost touch with my reality. I continued to run Info Select in a DOS window for years, until finally moving to Keynote.

I converted from Keynote and have been using Notefrog for quite a while now. It started out a bit buggy in its pre-release versions, but since about version 1.2 early this year, it has been very solid.

If there are any more of us out there- let me just say that if you loved Tornado Notes/Info Select, you will love "The Frog" even more. It still doesn't have some of the nice little things that IS had (but the features have been coming along nicely), but it has others that the IS folks never dreamed of- like integrated clipboard tools and the ability to save your stacks as Web pages that contain a built-in search program.

At any rate, three cheers for the nostalgia of Tornado Notes and the original Info Select. Notefrog has carried on in that "less is more" tradition, thank goodness.

    Hi Robert,

Thanks for the kind words. Wow, I knew some customers went back to Keynote and InfoSelect, but didn't realize some went all the way back to Tornado.

We're glad you've been pleased with our progress through our releases. We have a few more nice things planned for the future. And if you've chatted with some in our user base, you'll know that we will incorporate user requested features that are within our KISS philosophy, where appropriate and practical (sorry, no mind-mapping planned).

If you have an idea that will benefit a majority of our current and prospective users and can be implemented in a reasonable framework, pass it along. We do listen.

    cheers,

when people say "Free-Form Database" I hear AskSam. Any reasonable comparison?

    Berry Taylor (HTConsulting Vendor)
    Hi Joe,

Actually, I'm not that familiar with AskSam. In a very limited perusal of their site, it would appear they have a few more "import" capabilities than we do at this time, and their search capability differs from ours, but I would have to study a bit more to come up with a more complete comparison.

    cheers

    Hello all,

NoteFrog registration codes are "personalized" for the user. Thus there is a manual process involved in their creation.

If you enter an order it may be a few hours until you receive your permanent, personalized key. Especially since it's Sunday, and I've given the normal staff the day off :) - but you will receive your key.

    Best regards,

    Hi Alan,

If you order three individual copies I will send you three licenses and also give you a discount (3/$25) by refunding a portion of the third purchase.

If you wish the licenses to be registered under different names, include the information in the special instructions.

    Is this OK?

    Hi Berry,
I'm checking out your Pro trial download. I'll admit the user interface takes some getting used to, but the more I play with it, the more I'm getting used to it.

    1) One way I see myself using this a lot is saving text and image clips I find on the web. Is there a way to save a clip that has a title, body text and inline image all in one shot with the title and text font sizes and image position preserved? I have NoteFrog's auto clipboard capture turned on and when I highlight select these 3 things (title, text image), NoteFrog only captured the title and text, and the font size was the default text size. An example of what I would like to capture in one shot is any of the blog entries at neatorama.com.
    2) In the above scenario, I am able to capture the image separately into a new item. Is there a way to copy this image from its item into another existing item?
    3) Speaking of font size, until I found NoteFrog's setting for Default Font, my text capture were in this teeny tiny font that was unreadable. Once I defined the Default Font, the text was capture OK.
    4) The setting 'Automatic Clip Capture On at Startup' setting doesn't have a checkbox. It seems to have some type of input field. Should this feature be enabled in the Pro trial?
    5) Is there a user message forum for NoteFrog? I checked out your website but didn't find one. How do we send suggestions to you?

Sorry for the many questions, but thanks in advance for any info. I'm pretty sure I'm picking this up no matter what because I see a lot of uses for it.

    Luis
  • Aug 30 2009 1:49pm
    Berry Taylor (HTConsulting Vendor)
    Hi Luis,

It's difficult to save a complex document from the web because of the way the item is passed thru the clipboard interface to NoteFrog and the fact that different browsers use different methods for passing the item. Short answer, it's hit and miss as to what the saved message content will be at this time.

You should be able to add the image to a document via pasting it into the item in the NoteFrog item panel.

The font size is sometimes incorrect at first program use. This will be corrected in the next release. Sorry for any inconvenience.

The user forum seemed to be a "spam portal". For now, it's best to just send us your comments, suggestions, etc. We will see about re-opening the forum shortly.

I hope I covered everything to your satisfaction. I'm a little busy right now. Guess I shouldn't have given everyone the day off :)

    Cheers,
    Berry Taylor

Shocked to discover that the program is "not available for download in your country.," which Is the Philippines, where I am an American retiree. I've been a very active buyer on Bits du Jour for several years, and this is the first time I've run into this restrictuion. Was planning to buy this, but will be required to pass.

Just download from the NoteFrog site and we'll work something out on the payment.

Must be some kind of site block or something.

Let me know if you can't get it.

After ragging the other Bits Du Jour, this looked like a fine idea, a possible complement or auxiliary or replacement to the new Keynote NF or any solid note program, sort of in between using my Linkman as a PIM and a structured note. Dump, some structure but not too much, and search.

With an obviously attentive developer, for $10 I said FINE .. By buying it I am much more likely to use it !

    Thanks.

The first thing a I noticed is that NoteFrog is horrendously ugly. . . but its seeming throwback to 16 bit Windows days has a certain charm . . .

The biggest problem, though -- why choose NoteFrog? Evernote does everything it does, in terms of unstructured, searchable, RTF note taking -- but is both portable AND syncs over the Internet. Furthermore, there doesn't seem to be any intuitive way to migrate data from any note taking apps into NoteFrog -- so giving NoteFrog a fair trial would require a great deal of effort on my part, either individual dumping notes into text files or copying and pasting. And then I'm still left with a non-synchronous solution that leaves me either wasting time moving my data to/from home/work every single day or just maintaining separate libraries for each. Neither option is intuitive.

Furthermore, NoteFrog lacks sufficient keyboard support. It boasts only a handful of keyboard shortcuts, forcing one to use the mouse for almost all important features. The mouse is NOT where I want to be headed when I am working with text. And global hotkeys? There are none . . .

20 years ago -- maybe even 10 years ago -- NoteFrog would have really been on the verge of something. But it's nearly 2010 now and NoteFrog feels like a dated relic. The only compelling reason to use it over the plethora of free and comparably priced alternatives is ignorance of said alternatives.

At 10 bucks I couldn't help but grab a copy in case NoteFrog 1.4 is just a very early, very rough draft of what one day will grow into a real app for this digital age but I won't hold my breath.

We're sorry you're unhappy with the appearance of NoteFrog. You must have been unable to use it during it's week long trial period.

Not to worry - send us your purchase information and we'll be happy to issue a refund.

Barry, of all the things I said in my comment the appearance was the least important. I think the other issues offer more food for thought. And I am not looking for a refund. Thank you, though.
