Push the Freakin' Button!

If you spend any time reading our site, you know that we like anything that lets us save our precious time or cut some of the boring, repetitive elements out of our workflow. Our overworked brains especially like it when these apps are are easy-to-learn and easy-to-use.

Push The Freakin' Button Pro is right up our alley!

PTFB Pro is the perfect tool for automating tasks, reducing keystrokes, and best of all, getting rid of all those nagging automated requests that pop-up at the most inopportune times.

In effect, PTFB Pro is a "don't show this again" option for the many prompts and messages that don't have one of their own. Just tell PTFB Pro what buttons to press and when -- you'll never be bothered again!

And then there's the built-in macro recorder. It can record and playback complex sequences of mouse and keyboard actions, allowing you to quickly cut long repetitive tasks down to size.

PTFB Pro can periodically check to see if a program is currently running on your system. It can launch the target program if it isn't running or restart/close the program if it is.

PTFB Pro can even help keep interruptions at bay when you're not at your computer. Use it to keep attention craving applications from running in your absence, to fill out login fields, or even to keep your Internet connections alive!

Adrian Williams I bought PTFB on one of it previous listings on BDJ. It's one of those programs that fit the bill when you need it but you can also forget the power of it since you may not use it every day. I've not quite managed to program a macro that - at the cursor in file manager it presses F2 (rename), select all text, Ctrl-C (copy), ESC, move to another open window using Alt-Tab then create a new record(Ctrl-E) then - paste (Ctrl-V), Enter, cursor up.
I'm trying to create database entries from a directory listing. Several hundred records. Once the macro works, there's an option to repeat the macro x times. The problem i have is switching between windows. It may be a simple 'unticking a box' in the options but it's got me beat at the moment. Maybe Technology lighthouse can point me in the right direction. I've posted my email address, just in case.

The program is worth the money since it'll probably get the task done do to its flexibility. That's if I can get my macro to run :) Although you may not use it every day, it'll pay you back when you do need it.

Susan Westlake Hi Adrian,

One thing you could try is creating separate macros for each of the windows e.g.

Macro#1 works in file manager to copy the filename text
Macro#2 works in your other app to add the new record.

You could then edit macro#1 and add a Run macro item to trigger macro#2. Also edit macro#2 and withdraw all triggers other than "Macro Run command".

Hope that makes some kind of sense!
