Swift To-Do List 7 (New Version!)

The Number One To-Do List Software For Windows!

*** Due to the overwhelming response Dextronet has agreed to extend this deal for another day - Enjoy! ***

Do you ever find yourself shaking your head skeptically whenever you hear about something that's simple, yet powerful? Are you of the mind that in order for something to be truly useful on many levels, that it has to be exceedingly complicated, with a steep learning curve? Or that for an application to be easy to use, it has to be somehow dumbed down, stripped of any advanced functionality?

Swift To-Do List is powerful because it can take all of your tasks -- your action items, goals, meetings, phone calls, appointments, ideas, anything and everything -- and organize them in a visually pleasing, categorized hierarchy of folders. For each task, you can add explanatory notes and even attach related files, links, email addresses, and folders. Imagine attaching a Powerpoint presentation to the appointment reminder regarding the Big Client Meeting!

The feature list to the right is only the tip of the iceberg. Check out the feature list on the Swift To-Do website for more information!

Despite the application's astounding ability to bring order to your life, Swift To-Do List is exceedingly simple and easy to use, right from the moment you install the program. There are no complicated macros, keystrokes, or procedures to muddle through -- you can simply drag and drop tasks to change their order, and create new tasks and reminders with just a few clicks. Filter the task view to focus on one specific area, such as priority or due date, or expand the entire view to see the big picture. Swift To-Do List is so intuitive, you'll have full command of the application in mere minutes. It really is that simple!

For you road warriors, Swift To-Do List can print out any To Do list of tasks, including any associated notes that you've added. You can even export your task list to HTML or as an Excel spreadsheet!

Swift To-Do List comes in two flavors -- Professional and Standard -- and both are available today at a substantial discount. However, the Professional version has a few important features that we want to highlight here. Make sure you choose the right version!

  • Pro Version: Set start and completion dates for your tasks.
  • Pro Version: Assign tasks using the 'Assigned To' field.
  • Pro Version: Track your progress more precisely using the 'Percent Done' and 'Status' fields.
  • Pro Version: Create email reminders and email task recurrence notifications.
  • Pro Version: Utilize the 'Time Estimate' and 'Time Spent' fields for further clarity regarding the time needed and time spent for each task.
  • Pro Version: The 'Context' field helps you to better categorize your tasks.
  • Pro Version: A new 'Email Task' feature allows you to email tasks to the people the tasks are assigned to, to yourself, or to anyone else from your contact list.

Click over to the Swift To-Do website for more information on the differences between the Professional and Standard editions.

Swift To-Do List is constantly evolving for the better. Here are a couple of recent improvements:

Louis H I was hoping this one would be back soon. Thanks to BDJ and Dextronet for putting it back on the "Deal Coming Soon" list!

Jiri Novotny Online sync that allows you to synchronize the Windows desktop Swift To-Do List between computers is currently in beta, with about 30 testers from our customers. It also allows you to access your data via mobile devices. You can even invite other people to collaborate. It also acts as a remote backup. We expect to launch the final release in a few months, and it will be a free upgrade for users of the version 7.

If you would like to participate in beta, please request access by submitting this form: http://www.dextronet.com/...pplication

Ray Costanzo I've been using this for close to a year or so, and it's great, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for this type of software. I have no affiliation with the company!

Roberto Hello Jiri, just a question.

For my daily task, i wish to attach some txt and pdf files (invoices, proposals, drafts). Could swift to-do, allow me to search in attachments?

The pdf files are text-searchable (no need for ocr them).

My workaround would be to "pdf2text" every attachment, and write it down in the task's notes.. but its quite annoying.

Do you have planned this feature in a near future?
Nov 21 2011 at 6:01am
Jiri Novotny Hi Roberto! We would like to make attachments searchable in the future, probably even .doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt and .pdf attachments. We have SO MANY new features lined up coming in the 7.xx line that I can't tell you when this is going to be though. However, we are always counting "votes" for features, so thanks for voting! :-)

Ray: Thanks a lot for your kind words and support!

Charlie N I'm another satisfied user from an earlier BDJ purchase. This is an excellent, stable product. Easy to use and very powerful. Plus Updates just show up and install seamlessly. Highly recommended for personal and professional use.

I have many tasks in many different areas to track, both personal and for work. This allows me to keep a clear mind and categorize tasks then filter all or select categories. It will even send me email reminders and I can drag in Outlook emails and they become tasks.

You won't be disappointed, money well spent. And no, I don't get a commission :-) I just felt that this is such a good deal I needed to share with old and new BDJ colleagues.

Michael R. Is there a way to enter e.g. ebay-auctions in the way that a countdown appears whch shows the user at once how much time is left to bid?

It would be great if would be if the time when the countdown-timers would pop up (e.g. 2h before the time is over) and if the order of appearence could be chronological, i.e. the timely next article would be on top (or bottom)
Nov 23 2011 at 12:49am
Jiri Novotny Hi Michael,

The program has not been originally designed for this. However, it is very flexible. So, you can, of course, create a task for each auction, and set it a reminder scheduled 2h before the auction ends. The program will then remind you. Once you are reminded, you can snooze the reminder, edit the task, view task notes, etc.

Also, you can display the Reminder column which shows the reminder time and date, and sort your task list using the Reminder column. That way, you will see what ends the soonest.
Dextronet Vendor - Nov 23 2011 at 1:21am
Software Guy The developer has thoughtfully offered 1 user 3 pc licenses in this offer - thanks!
Also, I do like the idea of multiple (visible) countdown timers(reminders) of Michael R above. Useful for ebay but also many other applications.
Perhaps the developer Dextronet might consider this idea for future versions. In another application, my daughter (in college) says that her time management is simply tracking and managing tests, papers and assignments due. She just wants to know what is due, when and how much time. She likes the idea of multiple visible countdown timers. This is essentially the same request as the ebay auction timers.
I like the fact that they say their "passion" is to develop the best to do list. Thanks Dextronet for a nice product.
Nov 23 2011 at 3:38am
Louis H Make that a 3 pc license at a very nice (and low) price!

Looking forward to getting to know this program. And looking forward to the coming Online Sync and Mobile features!!!!

Add my support for development of multiple, visible countdown timers/reminders.

barney Barnes I just bought the Pro 3-pack ... for $134.95 (according to the completion page I received)! When I click on the receipt link on the acknowledgment page, I get nothing - a blank page.

However, when I check PayPal, it shows a payment of $44.95.

Now, if I'd been doing this via a bank card, it might have been several days before I could have made that discovery. That would have been several days spent cursing the folk behind this process for thieves and scoundrels, and discovery of the real payment would not soothe my foul mood.

Methinks ye need to adjust your sales process presentation to reflect reality rather than theory.
Nov 23 2011 at 6:05am
Jiri Novotny Hi Barney:

I'm sorry for the trouble. However, I've just tried placing a test order using a payment card, and the purchase page displayed the discounted price correctly in the Total column. The "Thank you for your purchase page" displayed it correctly as well. The link to the PDF receipt worked, and the receipt showed the correct discounted price. Even the email receipt I've received showed the correct discounted price.

It is possible that PayPal shows the wrong price somewhere, but rest assured, only the discounted price will be charged. Also, rest assured as we offer 90-day money back guarantee that you can use in the very unlikely scenario something goes wrong.
Dextronet Vendor - Nov 23 2011 at 6:12am
Louis H @barney - The initial online completion receipt from BMTMicro, after I made my purchase showed the same thing, but my email receipts (and when I clicked on the receipt link) and my bank account showed the correct discounted price.

Not sure why this happened, but I did save a screen image of the receipt, Jiri, if you ever need to further investigate why this occurred.

Just signed up for beta testing the online sync and web-based mobile version and know I made the right choice! Now looking forward to an actual Android version! (Patience!) :)

Even at this early Beta stage for the Mobile web-based version, I can see how this program will help me more effectively organize my day as a Home Health Nurse.

And a special thank you to MK for alerting me to be on the lookout for Swift To-Do!
Nov 23 2011 at 6:35am
Jiri Novotny MK: Thanks for your praise! We are happy to serve.

Glenn: Yes, with the Professional edition, you can edit the Completion dates very easily.
Dextronet Vendor - Nov 23 2011 at 7:52am
Glenn Byerly There are times when I do not mark an item complete until one or more days after its actual completion date. Is it possible to alter the completion date, so it reflects the actual date completed, instead of the date when the item is marked complete? This allows status reports, etc. to be accurate.
Nov 23 2011 at 12:34pm
MK Being using Swift To-Do Pro since January 2011. Got it on the BDJ 3-license deal, and it's a steal. Great balance of functions, usability and price - simply the best there is out there.
Jiri is very quick to respond to queries and does frequent updates.
Here's how I'm using it:
I have very large and expensive projects with many sub-projects, many multi-discplined teams and thousands of local, national and international regulations and requirements - all of which have to be managed and then audited.
I use STDP's tree view to breakdown the work into a hierarchy. For each bit of work, I have regulatory and client requirements, so I turn these into tasks.
I assign the tasks to managers of teams. I use priority, status, %done and dates to track progress.
I customise the context to categorise and so reference any regulatority and client requirements. I use attachments to link the references to actual electronic copies in case someone questions where I get my info from, and so I can call it up with a double-click.
I use the notes to write-up any issues or deviations from work, and responses.
I can then use filters to print-out progress reports. I can do this in different views, for example, by manager, work, client or regulatory requirement, etc.
And I can setup reminders to email or ring the alarm bells if something really important is needing done.
Brilliant piece of software.

Chinchih Lu This application installs to "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Swift To-Do List\" on Windows 7. Is there a way to specify an install destination other than the default?
Nov 23 2011 at 2:30pm
Jiri Novotny Hi Chinchih,

No, this cannot be changed. We do it this way so admin. privileges are not necessary for installation. Google Chrome does it the same way. Sorry for any trouble.

Chinchih Lu Does Swift To-Do support sub-tasks?
Nov 23 2011 at 5:19pm
Sweet Soft Nice program just purchased the Professional edition.

It's not easy to make a GUI with loads of features but still make it simple, with good usability but you guys have managed it.

Thanks, looking at your Outlook backup next. :)
Nov 23 2011 at 9:56pm
Jiri Novotny Chinchih Lu: Not yet, but we are already working on it and have this feature 50% done. We would like to add it in about 3 months.

Sweet Soft and MK: Thanks for your praise!
Dextronet Vendor - Nov 23 2011 at 11:35pm
Steven Avery Hi,

Hopefully you will extend a day. The reasonable alternative is the Pro 3-pack and it is a spot of cash, so needs evaluation.

I notice a few things.

There does not seem to be a field where you can put in a hot link url clickable for a task. That url can be down in the notes but you would only see one at a time. When you put the notes preview as a column the url is not clickable. Can you make it so, or add a clickable url field ?

Swift has never been calendar oriented. However if I put in a lot of recurring tasks (e.g. weekly bluegrass gospel radio shows) then I would like to see what "tasks" (events) are on a date. Similarly things like "Completion Date" (my coupon expires, my report is due) should show up in a standard rudimentary calendar that can print. (This does not have to be the fancy daily planner type of calendar.)

I see the workaround with sorting by DueDate, but there should then be a time column (well there is sort of one in the recurring field).

I see a Global View, a Selected View (specific To-Do Lists combined) would be nice.

I would like to see at least some user-defined columns, too, in the ListPro fashion,. which excels in flexible list design. (but lacks lots of todo features.. so the two programs can be complementary.) Your selection of columns feature is very good, filtering looks reasonably good.

Overall, nice software. Most of your real competition in friendly To-Do is dormant in development (Quick, Priorganizer, etc) leaving this niche open to you. And the freebies Task Coach, To-Do List by Abstract Spoon are more tech-oriented, less friendly, maybe less flexible.

Your having about 3 lesser products is a bit confusing, and that license history situation upset a few.

Since I would spend $45 on this, I really have to test it throughout a long day first. So I suggest an extension, publicly or quietly.

Steven

Nico Westerdale Due to the overwhelming response Dextronet has agreed to extend this deal for another day - Enjoy!
Bits du Jour Admin - Nov 24 2011 at 12:00am
Steven Avery thanks. I'll play with it today and probably have a number of comments, Nico knows the software can get both compliments and harumphs and involved questions from me

btw, A support forum of sorts, even simply Yahoogroups or Googlegroups (easy to manage) rather than a webforum (nice plus taxing) would be a big plus.

Steven
Nov 24 2011 at 12:02am
Jiri Novotny Steven: Thanks for the feedback.

Regarding URLs - you can either attach URLs as attachments, or include them in notes, both are clickable. You can't visit the URLs directly from task-view, you need to select the task first. Clickable URLs in Notes Preview column are possibility for the future.

Calendar is definitely planned for the future.

Custom columns will be added in the future as well.

We are currently focused on the sync/mobility/collaboration features, and then would like to add sub-tasks. After that, calendar and custom columns will be our top priority.
Dextronet Vendor - Nov 24 2011 at 2:19am
ch ch ch chia Custom columns would be a major jump compared to the other todo list softwares out there since the possibilities are nearly endless.

Any way to have certain columns viewable for specific todo (sub) lists?
Nov 24 2011 at 10:06am
Michael Begley I have used this product for some time now after purchasing it on a prior BistDuJour offer. It has a very nice feature set, is stable, and the user interface is simple and easy to learn. Along the way I have tried similar programs but come back to this one. The program does not have a calendar, but if you do not need that, then this program will be tough to beat.
Nov 24 2011 at 1:36pm
Steven Avery Hi,

Thanks for the feedback above.

It would help a lot if the due date column could auto-bump on a recurring entry, to the next occurence. (Either automatically or as a configuration option or a task option.) This would work for a type of calendar scheduling of recurring events by sorting on the due date field. Just a creative way of accomplishing that need.

Similarly, reminders could be linked to recurring events. Right now I get an email once a week before my fav bluegrass gospel radio show, from Listpro (which is not even a ToDo list).

The tab metaphor would help, unbundling a lot from the Explorer-interface side, adding another dimension to structure, but that is a more radical change. What the Tab metaphor does is allow you to put much more into one database without feeling cluttered in the tree. One tab is computer, another is biz, another is entertainment, another is Bible, etc. As it stands now, you have to clump it all on the left side tree ... or have multiple unrelated databases. You are seeing this metaphor more in the Note programs these days (Right Note, TreeDbNotes) but not as much in ToDo programs.

Some thoughts. I am playing with it now.

One big plus is the way you have the memo field capable to be placed as a task or subtask, and similar writing capability with the note field within a task. This looks well implemented, with the RTF font/color capability.

Plus your printing looks well thought out. That is a nice plus. Suggestion, the ability to SAVE a print configuration. A big plus.

Plus you are responsive, even if, as many, currently partially diverted in enhancements by the weird world of the Android and IPod. The point of a program like this is to grow with it as a tool over a couple of years, so ongoing responsiveness is critical.

I will say that overall I am pleased. The combo of ease-of-use (fun on the run) and good implementations such as notes and drag-and-drop and printing makes it more than the dry todo that I am familar with. So I can see a combo usage of Swift, Listpro and maybe Rightnote (using Linkman as my pseudo-PIM) as working quite elegantly, allowing Swift to grow on the calendar section.

You could add a fixed column as Where, or Location .. for those things that are done in Manhattan, or the Hamptons. In some cases it would be nice place to hold the phone # or url (looking forward to your making it hot clickable in one column, I see you have done some of this implementation through attachments, kewl). Clearly another existing column like context could be used in that way, but it seems to justify one more potential hard-coded one.

Anyway, impressed enough that I am planning the 3-user Pro special.

Steven
Nov 24 2011 at 4:03pm
Jiri Novotny Hi Steven,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

- "It would help a lot if the due date column could auto-bump on a recurring entry": This is already supported. You can go to File - Options, and in the Recurrence tab, select "Set Due Date to date of next recurrence".

- "Similarly, reminders could be linked to recurring events." Also, already supported. In the Recurrence tab, choose an Action that includes "Remind Me". Eg. Duplicate and remind me, or Set undone and remind me, or Just remind me.

- "Tab metaphor" - We will possibly implement this in the future, giving you the ability to open multiple databases at once.

We will eventually support columns.

Once again, thanks, and I hope you will enjoy Swift To-Do List!
Dextronet Vendor - Nov 25 2011 at 5:04am
Software Guy For the folks that want timers, I found a little utility called timeleft http://www.softwaregeek.c...eleft.html which also has notes to help track things like auctions or test dates in real time. For the ebayers, aebay has a utility called countdown to track auctions http://countdown.ebay.com/faq.html and there are numerous other auction tracking utilities avaiable http://ebay-auctions.qarchive.org/
The timers seem a nice complement to swift todo.
Hope that helps.
