Technology is amazing. At this rate, pretty soon people won't even need to know how to read!
And while we don't think that's a good thing, we do think there are a lot of times we'd rather have something read to us than have to read it ourselves. For example:
We've just recently learned about TextAloud, which lets us do all that! It transforms text into speech, letting us listen to, instead of read, anything on our PCs. And it's not with one of those nasty, flat, answering machine voices. It's with high-quality, human-like speech!
I can't download the demo since it's on an upload site that's blocked from my client site. Is there any other place to download it?
Charles, try out http://www.download.com/TextAloud/3000-7239_4-10046551.html?tag=lst-1
It's unclear what voices come with the paid version. The trial includes only a very poor "Mary". According the nextup site "The demo of our text reader software ships with only a single voice, Mary from Microsoft...We also sell premium voices from a wide variety of voice vendors in many different languages and personalities.,,You must purchase to use get the better sounding voices." So is it that with the purchase of the tool we get the better voices? Or only that we can then purchase other voices to add to the paid tool?
The basic TextAloud for $19.95 comes with the older microsoft voices that sound like this sample: http://www.webaloud.com/files/demo44.mp3 On the order page there is an option to get the AT&T Natural Voices Mike and Crystal for $25. You can hear samples of these at http://www.nextup.com/nvsamples.html There are many other voices available, sold separately for $35 at http://nextup.com/TextAloud/SpeechEngine/voices.html
I really enjoyed it and purchased it along with the AT&T Natural Voices and the other offer of Neo Speech Voices. The purchase code worked great on the program. It tells me that I need to purchase the AT&T Natural Voices and the Link for the Neo Speech Voices does not work. How do I get them to work?
We've followed up with support email to help. Anyone having trouble, email support@nextup.com In your particular case, it looks like firewall maybe blocking the .exe download links for the voice, but I've sent a few others servers to you to try.
What up truckas
The links you sent me worked fine. Thanks for your help. I will use the program more once my mp3 players is returned to me. In the shop for repairs.
What voices do we get when we purchase the software?
at the discounted price, it comes only with the older Microsoft voices. Other voices are at http://nextup.com/TextAloud/SpeechEngine/voices.html
Ken, this offer says that only older voices come with discounted versions. Out of curiosity, what voices come with the full-priced version? Thanks! Jim
Ken, I might as well ask all of my questions now. 1) I use Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 Professional on Windows XP Pro. Would there be any conflict with TextAloud? 2) I also use a program that allows me to save a lot of data on my clipboard and access it anytime. Since TextAloud uses the clipboard, would that pose a problem? Thank you. Jim
Hi Jim. Clipboard is only one of dozens of ways to get Text into TextAloud, so you won't have a problem turning off the clipboard watcher. We've got a lot of customers who use both TextAloud and Dragon.
Actually, the same. Normally TextAloud is $30 and comes only with the older microsoft voices, then premium voices add $25 and up. So I worded that wrong the first time. With this deal you are getting for $15 what normally costs $30, and for $25 more you can add 2 good voices.
I purchased this the last time you did this offer with the addition of the extra voices. It is a good program but not as usefull as I hoped it would be. Was given a Zune and have not been able to use this program to load information to it.
Hi Mary, it should work perfectly fine with zoon. Please email us at support@nextup.com and I'll help get you going.
Ken, Thank you for the quick replies. You didn't mention what voices are available at a discount if I purchase, and I have been over the NextUp.com web site a few times without getting a definitive indication which voices are available at a discount with purchase, though I did see that there is a package available with two specific MS voices at that price. Guess that's them. If there were better deals on future purchases with the full-price software instead of the discounted version I would do that instead, but I don't really see that mentioned there. BTW, at ~600 MB per voice I can understand why they aren't included! Thanks for your help. Jim
The basic TextAloud for $29.95 ($14.95 for today with this deal) comes with the older microsoft voices that sound like this sample: http://www.webaloud.com/files/demo44.mp3 On the order page there is an option to get the AT&T Natural Voices Mike and Crystal for $25.
