The Trouble With Scribbles

Is your note-taking stuck in the 20th century? Are you still scribbling bits of important information on sticky notes, envelopes, and pieces of scrap paper, only to lose track of them at the most inconvenient time?

If this is you, I urge you to check out the Tree Notes Note Organizer. With Tree Notes you can keep all of your scribbles in electronic form, and organize your notes in a collapsible/expandable tiered tree hierarchy! All of your notes are kept in one place, in one file, but organized so neatly and intuitively you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

Tree Notes is mapped to a hotkey, so the app will sit quietly in your System Tray until a hot thought hits your brain. When you need it, hit the key, and Tree Notes pops up, ready to record your wisdom. Jot your note, hit the key, and shooop! Tree Notes retreats back to the System Tray.

All of the formatting options that you're used to are here - bold, underline, italics, justification, fonts, and font sizes. Have a particularly fantastic idea? Format it as bold, in red, 26 point Verdana! Go crazy with your note-taking self.

Any of your notes (or all of them) can be exported as plain text, rich text, or HTML. Think about it - with Tree Notes, your thoughts can easily be emailed to someone else, or posted to the internet on your website for the world to see!

Please note folks, the NEW version of Tree Notes (2.50) adds numbered bullet lists, multi-level lists (outlines), a spellchecker, 100 extra tree icons, improved find/replace functions, the ability to import and export extra formats (DOC, DOCX, ODT, HTML, MHT, ePub), improved printing, and a new PDF export function. It also makes it possible to paste images into your notes!

Curt Henning de Thurah does the offer entitle the buyer to get discount on version 4?

Danny Is this Tree Notes 3 application also reflected in Swift to-do List Edition 8 software package?
Jan 9 at 12:17pm
Jiri Novotny Hi Danny,

Yes, all new features in Tree Notes 3 are also in Swift To-Do List 8.

Stephen Kreyling I have the swift to do list ultimate edition, does this program have any features that make it unique that swift to do does not have?

Jiri Novotny Hi Stephen,

Tree Notes is pretty much a subset of Swift To-Do List, but many of our customers still like to use both, to keep their notes/ideas/thoughts/journals separate from their tasks. I personally use both too.

Software Guy Great little software tool which is always ready in your tray. This is from the developer of Swift ToDo, the best in class personal information manager.
This developer is top notch and most responsive. At $15 for 1 user 3 computers this is a great deal. And if you haven't looked at Swift-ToDo, go here to check it out

Michael R. Is it possible to get to a certain node or branch via two (or more) differnt paths (e.g. to the family-pictures via 'family-pictures' or 'pictures-people-family')?
Jan 10 at 11:59pm
Nelson Carvalho I bought the Tree Notes last year. It is a great software with many useful features. The developer keeps constantly updated, as well as adding new features. I use it very often. I recommend.
Jan 11 at 2:26am
Jiri Novotny Software Guy: Thanks for your support!

Michael R: No, you can't create "ghost" notes/links in the tree. We try to keep things simple, so at all times, the tree structure is easy to understand.

Nelson: Thank you very much!

Tom Colvin I have been a very long-time user of Keynote and have built a number of important Knowledge Bases for my various projects. But that software is no longer maintained, which makes me nervous for the future.

It looks like Tree Notes is a Keynote on steroids.

Is it possible to import Keynote files into Tree Notes?
Jan 11 at 4:03am
Jiri Novotny Hi Tom: Importing from Keynote is unfortunately not possible right now. But you can do it manually - either by copying the contents via clipboard, or by exporting your notes one-by-one to files (e.g. RTF), then importing them into Tree Notes.

Stephen Kreyling Good deal, got a 3 pack. Keep up the good updates.

Danny @Jiri Novotny,

How you meant ' both '? However, not two separate softwares Tree Notes + Swift to-do List 8?If one Swift to-do List 8 purchase then this small software unnecessary to take apart, right?

Brian Turner What is the upgrade cost from Swift Standard 7 to the 8 Ultimate?
Is it really Dollars 100?

Do you have a special Bits offer on this?

Brian
Jan 11 at 5:46am
Jiri Novotny Danny: I'm afraid I don't understand your question.

Brian: Upgrade from Swift To-Do List 7 Standard to Swift To-Do List 8 Ultimate costs $119.95 (discounted from $149.95). In this case, I think that the BDJ offer will cost slightly less, and include the new e-book as well. When upgrading to the same edition (e.g. from v7 Standard to v8 Standard), the BDJ offer costs more. The BDJ offer is usually the most advantageous for new customers.
Dextronet Vendor - Jan 11 at 6:05am
Brian Turner OK, I took the plunge with the Ultimate Version knowing I have a 90 day money back guarantee.

But/And I really wish somebody would develop an email/to do combination. that is a lot better than Outlook. Many of my to dos are emails, so I get split.

Have you got an android phone to do in the pipeline?

Brian
Jan 11 at 7:57am
Jiri Novotny Brian, are you using the feature for creating tasks from emails? You can just Drag and Drop emails from Outlook into Swift To-Do List. Also, we would like to soon release an add-on for Outlook, which will make this even easier.

And yes, mobile apps are planned, including Android. Right now, we have mobile web-apps in Beta already available, but they are not yet polished and feature-complete.

George Mihailoff Can this program be used on a be used on a USB stick? Thanks.
Jan 11 at 8:29am
A K The 'month' and 'date' drop-down options for the credit card info isn't working. Can't buy, if they don't work. Thank you.
Jan 11 at 8:43am
DroidLuvr I have Swift To-Do-List 8 and have been loving it; I also am curious why I would want to buy this if Swift Pro has "all these features and more..." BTW - I have Pro, not ultimate - just way too far out of my price budget for Ultimate :(

What advantages would this have? And could you give some specific examples of why you would use one or the other? Finally, do they work together well? i.e. Is it easy to export a group of notes to a task in Swift 8 Pro, etc.???

Last, but not least: thank you, Jiri, for helping me to get more organized!! I have also just purchased your book and really looking forward to that!! (Your blog has always been just awesome and the support as well!!)

I definitely would recommend Dextronet to anyone if they need a product that Jiri develops!!

P.S. I would LOVE to help beta test anything Android that you have - let me know if you could use another geek to give you some feedback on that :)
Jan 11 at 10:39am
Danny This application is certainly also one of the toppers. But I use present a CintaNotes, also a great note application!
Jan 11 at 11:51am
T L Is there a "cloud" version that can be used by all the PC's I split time on at work, home, and when traveling?
Jan 11 at 12:59pm
Jiri Novotny A K: I assure you they work, we've received over 100 orders today so far. Perhaps you could try different browser?

DroidLuvr: Well, as I said, I personally like to use Tree Notes for my more personal things - writing down my thoughts, ideas, journals, collecting links, resources, goals, etc. I like that I can have different hotkey for this than for tasks in my Swift To-Do List.

You can open Tree Notes database in Swift To-Do List, but it doesn't work the other way around.

t l: Sorry, no cloud version for Tree Notes at the moment. But it might be available this year. With Swift To-Do List, we already have one, albeit not yet complete, and it is our top priority to finish it.

Ralph Bressler The header says Tree Notes 3 but the text refers to Tree Notes 2.5 which is all I could find on the website! What's up?
Jan 11 at 1:26pm
Jiri Novotny Ralph: This promotion is for the latest version 3, and our website also offers only the latest version 3. The text just mentions some features added in the past version 2.5.

Wayne W I bought Swift To-Do here even though I thought it was overpriced. I did the upgrade to Ultimate, though I thought it was also pricey. I haven't regretted it. The elegant design and layout of Swift To-Do makes it such a pleasure to use. It's become one of my all-favorite programs. Since I already have Swift To-Do, this program is mostly redundant. But I like to contribute to the cause of encouraging excellent software development. So here's $10, Jiri. Have a couple of beers on me (and I'm sure I'll find some use for this program, too).

Michael R. Thanks for the former answer about 'ghost'-links...
But, I saw in v3.0 there is the possibility to create a link to another node.
Is there a possibility to call TreeNode and let it jump to a certain node by a command-line-option?

It would be nice, if there were a free viewer-version, so a database could be sent to someone, without forcing him to buy this product... Is there such a plan in a next future?
Jan 11 at 10:37pm
Jiri Novotny Wayne: Thank you so much for your support! I'm humbled by your generosity and deeply grateful.

Michael: Yes, you can create hyperlinks to notes from other notes. Activating a specific note from command line is currently not possible, but we would like to eventually add treenotes:// protocol.

Regarding the viewer - if you rename the .tnn file to .stdl, you can then open it in our Swift To-Do List Lite or Task List Guru (both freeware). It will be even editable, albeit without rich text formatting.
