The new version 5.0 saw a 300% increase in monthly sales! Check out what's new in this version.

Have you ever tried to copy and paste a bunch of files that were in different folders? It can get a bit confusing! You have open windows plastered all over your desktop, and you're copying stuff here, then dropping it off, then copying stuff from somewhere else, then dropping it off -- not only is this time-consuming, it's extremely prone to error!

Copywhiz is a great utility that will add some sunshine to your file copy experience in Windows. With Copywhiz, you'll be able to pick files from different folder locations, then paste them all together, plus enjoy the benefit of filtering which files to copy! Do all of these right from Windows File Explorer.

I mentioned filtering -- that's the heart of Copywhiz! You can choose to copy only new and modified files, or copy files based on a specific file name or extension. You can also automate all of these by scheduling your file copy tasks using Copywhiz. Very useful for periodic file backups which we often ignore.

And instead of copying things one at a time from different locations, Copywhiz lets you collect files from different folders and paste them all together. Plus, Copywhiz is always watching out for you, so if there's a duplicate file, you'll always have the opportunity to review it and either overwrite or rename. A full list of files is always displayed for your review to ensure that you haven't missed anything!

Have you ever tried a bulk copy operation, only to see the whole job abort because there was an error with a single file? With Copywhiz, this will never happen to you! You will always have the chance to retry or skip a file without affecting the entire copy job!

Lastly, if you ever find yourself copying the same files over and over as part of your workflow, you'll be pleased to know that Copywhiz enables you to save that list of files to a project and reuse it again and again!

Hi, Copywhiz is not an every day utility unless you use the automatic backup feature. However, it can save several hours and tedious effort when you need to do a file copy task. Because it allows you to copy just new & modified files, copy only specific type of files etc. Really useful stuff!
bvssunnydale Hi, does this allow command line operation? and how is this different, in abilities, from xxcopy? Thanks.

Keyboard Cowboy I was intrigued by this product and since your site says each license covers two computers, I bought three licenses to cover my "fleet" of six computers. When I installed the first copy on a computer, I glanced at the "license agreement" (yeah, who reads those things?) and noticed it says the program can be used on ONE computer. Which is correct?

@bvsunnydale - Yes, it allows command line. The command line allows one to run a saved Copywhiz project. Copywhiz is similar to xxcopy. Copywhiz has an easy to use user interface for regular users.

@KeyboardCowboy - Please ignore the license agreement shown when installing the app. We allow second computer only if it is being used by the same user.

Total commander lets you to access Windows File Explorer menu. So that menu will also show Copywhiz options.

HJ B A serious defect in the Windows copying function relates to filed that cannot be copied because the file name is too long. That is what the error message says, but in most instances it is because the path to the file is too long. Windows throws up the name too long error message and only shows the name of the file, without the path. It gives you no option except to bypass the copying of that file. In a substantial copying job, such as backing up a disk, you have no way of knowing where the file is. The problem becomes substantial if a single copying job includes a number of such errors. The best you can do is scribble down the file names and then try to correct the problem after the copy job is over. With some file names, such as "readme" that becomes near impossible. Moreover, correcting the problem entails not only finding the file but also manually locating the place on the copy where it ought to go.

Does copywhiz address this problem?

Does anyone know of a utility that will examine a computer's files and provide a report as to files that fall into this category?

A second problem relates to large quantities of small files. It appears that, in Windows, a large quantity of small files will take far, far longer to copy than a few large files, even though both copying jobs involve the same number of bytes. I understand that the overhead issues in the two types of jobs are different, since each small file its own separate overhead that is equivalent to the overhead of each large file. Does copywhiz make an effort to address this problem?

Short of solving the problem, it would be great if there were a utility that analyses for problems such as this and alerts the user to it before the copying process starts, with the option to circumvent the problem (by compressing folders of small files or by not copying them).

Finally, I wish I knew of a utility that would assess drives and score them as to how friendly they are for the purpose of copying from or copying to. Drive speed, drive format, drive buffer, and the computer's own system could be taken into account in arriving at a score. In this way, the user can make an intelligent decision to retire or not use a drive. In shopping for both internal and external hard drives, I find that the published specs are not really informative as to how well a drive will perform in the copying task.

Robert W Does Copywhiz have "Cut" or Move type of functionality? Basically copy the files to the target, and then delete the original.

I guess recent Windows OS does solve the long file name problem. Copywhiz also handles long file names. However, we aren't aware whether there may be multiple causes for this error. So we aren't sure if it covers all such causes.

Copywhiz can generate log file so that you can know the complete path of the file.

Speed of copying multiple small files will always be less than single big file due to the design of regular HDD and file system.

Yes, it such cases it may be better to compress them into a single file and then copying it.

@RobertB Copywhiz of course has an option to move. It option is called 'Paste & delete original (Move)'
Kelly Hamblin Regarding the choice to copy or paste only new or modified files: Is that determined by the date/time stamp, or does Copywhiz use the Archive bit?

Also, does the application come with a Help file or is the help only online?

@HJB, Plus Copywhiz lets you to skip same error so that you are not prompted again and again.

@KellyHamblin, It checks file date/time stamp only.

Help is only online.
