GTD Timer 2012 Professional

Getting Things Done, Better Than Ever

There's the Getting Things Done (GTD) approach to productivity. There's also an entire universe of software-based countdown timers. But did you know that only ONE software application successfully bridges the gap between these two worlds? Introducing GTD Timer 2012 Professional!

Boasting an intuitive and clean interface, GTD Timer 2012 Professional implements the GTD two-minute rule, although you can configure it to countdown to any period of time, or any time of day. What's the two minute rule? If a task can be done in two minutes or less, do it now! Budgeting your time this way gives you just as many benefits as budgeting money -- just decide how much time you're willing to spend on any particular task, set GTD Timer 2012 Professional accordingly, and get going!

GTD Timer 2012 Professional has a host of configurable options, making it the perfect fit for everyone. You can show the countdown in the system tray, as well as in a window. You can run multiple instances, for creating GTD tasks within GTD tasks! And when the countdown reaches zero, you can configure GTD Timer 2012 Professional to play a sound, display a message (TAKE DINNER OUT OF THE OVEN), or run a command (open your email program, for example). The flexibility is amazing -- you can pause, stop, or restart your countdown at any time, plus let GTD Timer 2012 Professional go into overtime, automatically restart, or quit completely!

D H Is it possible to trace back time spent on a specific task? I can reward myself educational points for self-education/continuous professional development and I would like to have a nice chart with dates-months-year (like calendar) and time schedule I spent on the task to be able to show to the Edu organisation. Is it possible to have this feature with this program?
Nov 30 2011 at 11:40am
Vyacheslav Koldovskyy D H, thank you for question. Currently it is possible to run an automatic command at a completion of each session of GTD Timer run. This allows to particularly implement time-tracking feature.

Fully functional time tracking with data export and visualization is planned for future versions of the software. We'll do our best to make it happen next year. All registered users of previous versions of GTD Timer will receive a significant discount for future updates.

Michael R. I'm wondering, if I could use GTDTimer to handle ebay-auctions, I'm interested in.

If I understand the screenshots right, I can set a end-time, i.e. my counter is running to 0:00, when the auction is closed. Right?

Thinking it through, I would like to have some other features to make this tool really useful:

It would be gread, if the countdown-window could be closed and could re-popup at specific times. E.g. it would make sense, if it could popup at 0:00 of the day the auction is to be closed. So when switching on the computer, all auctions of this day would be visible at once. Than perhaps every full hour, starting 6 hours before the auction ends and than 10 minutes before it ends too. (And 2 minutes before end, a sound would be nice too). All this should be configurable by the user of cause...

I have read, many instances of the program could run, so I suppose every instance stands for a single timer. It would be perfect, if the windows could appear non-overlapping and in a time-left-order (i.e. the timer, which is nearest to 0:00 would appear on top).

Is it possible to call an instance of GTDTimer from within a command-line? It would be pefect to be able to install a kind of configuration-profile, e.g. about the window popup-behaviour and use this in the command-line too. Using command-lines would allow to write a little program and call GTDTimer from within, e.g. it could evaluate the clipboard and excerpt a date/time out of it and so create a new timer with this date/time. Having a command to modify an already running timer, e.g. it's headline, would be great.

Eddie Tex The license policy states that this is machine-based, but then the next line states that it may not be used at the same time on multiple computers (which makes it sound like it is user based). Which is it?

If we buy this for personal purposes, can we not install this on both a desktop and a laptop?

Post Edit: Nevermind. It looks like I have my answer. Three editions (home, pro, home + pro). The home can only be installed on a personal device (not used for work). Pro can be installed on any type of device. The "pro + home" allows one of each. All three are available for discount.

Vyacheslav Koldovskyy Eddie Tex, it's machine-based, but we have bundled Pro+Home license which you can use on two computers. Just order it, it's on sale too.

Vyacheslav Koldovskyy Michael R., yes you are right how timer will count till 0:00.
Also we have command line support, it allows to create new timers and modify existing instances (identified by ID).

Regarding 'window re-popup' and some specific auction features - thank you for suggesting, we are gathering user feedback and implement new features in a result how often users request them. So, you may expect this features in future upgrades.

Shawn Michaels Interesting software. I was wondering if I could set the timer to stop at a given time and have everything freeze what is going on. So simply everything would stop at the 0:00 count allowing me to increase my time available in the day? Or can I pause time at a given time, have it wait 15 minutes and then continue the counter? If not, how can this feature set be added in?
Dec 3 2011 at 9:04am
Vyacheslav Koldovskyy Shawn Michaels, I am not sure if I correctly understood you.
I can describe how GTD Timer works now. Say, you have 20 minutes for some task, you starting timer and working on it. If someone interrupts you when 5 mins gone, you can pause the timer and still have 15 mins for the task. When you are ready to proceed, you just press 'continue' and timer will continue to countdown your 15 mins left. That's corresponds how time budgeting works in time management. I am not sure if there are any other possibility to implement pause without making this feature too complicated to understand for users.

Vyacheslav Koldovskyy Dear Res, we are not hiding! We are from Ukraine. This country located in Europe, there is even geographical midpoint of the Europe calculated to be in our country!
But not many people know anything about Ukraine, so we usually tell that we 'just from Europe'. And also we are very happy to tell more about our country if someone asks about it, so thank you for asking, just contact support email if you want to find out more. :)

Steven Avery Hi,

Ukraine is fine, lots of good software developed by bright programmers ... but since Ukraine is the eastern part of "eastern Europe" there would have to be a whole hidden part of Europe to make it the geographical midpoint !

Suggestion .. it would be nice to place the locale on your website, to avoid the type of impression received by Res Hun. You also could use a little English grammar tweaking, it sort of gives away an Eastern European locale. (It's not "bad" as is, but you definitely has some non-native errors that would be easy to fix). Ask one of your Dutch or UK friends to do a proof-reading session, even an American could probably tweak it for you.

Since I am not big on the GTD paradigm I'll pass on this software, it does look like you have a good understanding of what is involved, so for those in GTD it might well be excellent.

J S Could you set up the program to run a command that controls USB (for example: switch on or switch off a mains voltage powered light plugged into a USB controlled [mains] relay)
Dec 3 2011 at 10:21pm
Vyacheslav Koldovskyy @Steven, thank you, we'll take your suggestions into account.
@J S, yes it's possible, just put your command into 'Action' section of the preset configuration
