Sure, you could get a stack of colored Post-It notes and start planning your project that way. It’s all well and good until a critical task drops to the floor overnight and ends up stuck to someone’s shoe the next day! There’s a better, more efficient and effective approach to visual planning, and it’s in the form of today’s discount software promotion, Hyper Plan!

Hyper Plan lets you plan your work and life in visual, color-coded form, letting you see what you need to do next with just a glance. With Hyper Plan, you’ll be able to select which properties you want to visualize, from tasks and people to priorities and budgets. Click between these views easily. Apply categories to tasks, then assign colors. Or view everything that needs doing in a timeline.

Best of all, when you use Hyper Plan, you’re no longer limited by wall space or sticky note colors! And if you need to see plans from a few months, or even a few years ago, Hyper Plan makes it easy to call them back up just like that!

The developer has recently released Hyper Plan Professional edition, which allows you to add connections between cards. This was the feature requested most by customers and allow dependencies, sequencing, hierarchy and other types of relationships to be modeled. This makes Hyper Plan a lot more powerful and opens up many new application areas, for example you can now calculate schedules and critical paths based on dependencies between tasks.

This promotion includes the following:
Hyper Plan Home Edition v2.8.6 ($40)
Hyper Plan Professional Edition v2.8.6 ($80)

Frank Christensen Can one person with this on a PC share the same file with someone on a Mac?

(Added later: I don't mean as if the file is shared live via networking or cloud, but PC user sends file to Mac user--is the data compatible both ways?)

Richard User I want to jump in here with an unpaid, unsolicited testimonial.

I bought this product during an earlier BDJ promotion. I have been totally pleased with HyperPlan. But more importantly, the developer himself is outstanding. He LISTENS to his user base, actively solicits their input, and then incorporates their best ideas into the product.

When HyperPlan Pro rolled out last year, existing customers got essentially the same deal offered here today on BDJ. To be honest, I didn't really need the extra Pro features, but the coolness factor won me over.

If you want what HyperPlan does, you will be happy with the product and the support you receive.

carl thorpe Disclaimer: I do not work for the Hyper Plan developers, nor have I been asked to provide a testimonial. I do not receive any compensation from them in any way for my comments.

I bought this program quite a while ago from a BDJ offer. I regularly use it for task management at home and for various coding projects that I am working on.

I find it easy to use and the various ways of displaying the cards helps me think through problems and tasks in new ways.

I recommend downloading the trial and loading up one of the included sample files so you can manipulate things and see how it all works.

Andy Brice Frank,
Yes, the plan file is in XML/text format and can be freely transferred between Hyper Plan on Windows and Mac. Obviously it works best if you have the same version on both computers (otherwise some of the data related to later features may be lost if you read a newer version file into an older version of Hyper Plan - the same as with any other software).

Andy Brice Thanks Richard. We do listen carefully to customers and have incorporated many of their suggestions into the product. And it is a much better product for it.

Frank Christensen Thanks, Andy. We'd be interested in using this to manage our not-for-profit's summer fundraiser. There's just two us us doing the lion's share of the work and this might be helpful.

We support nearly 200 men/women in the armed forces from northeast Wi with about 1000 care packages a year, each costs us about $20 to mail (contents are mostly donated)--that's why the fundraiser.

As much as I dislike "cloud" stuff, a shared version networked this way could be handy.

Thanks!

Andy Brice Frank, I use DropBox to share my plans between multiple devices (PC and Mac). I find it works pretty well in practise. Hyper Plan detects when another process (such as DropBox) has changed the plan. It wouldn't be suitable if you had lots of people trying to edit the same plan at the exact same time though.

carl thorpe I second Harald's request for a discount for Pro upgrades on current users.

As it is, new buyers get the same price for Pro that existing users are offered for an upgrade. It would be great if people who bought your product in the past had a path to Pro that was cheaper than a new purchase.

Andy Brice Carl, We try to balance incentives for new users with being fair to existing customers. We did offer 25% off the upgrade from Home to Pro to all our newsletter subscribers for a limited period after the Pro edition was released (making it $30, rather than $40).

Ed Ward Andy - curious whether Hyper-Plan could be used for "card sorting" and visualizing relationships among "concepts" (similar to mind mapping software) more generally. Any thoughts on the extent to which Hyper-Plan is (or could be) used for these purposes? In any event I've just purchased a copy of Hyper-Plan Pro (which appears to accommodate more complex, hierarchical relationship) as I'm sure I'll find some uses for it.

Andy Brice Ed, Hyper Plan automatically lays out cards according to their properties on a grid (or their connectivity in the Pro edition). Which is obviously a bit different to classical mind mapping. But should work well if you can come up with an appropriate scheme to categorize your cards.

We also have some ideas for ways that we could better support classical mind mapping. Hopefully you will see those in a future release.
