Tore Hoyem Normally I avoid products with "online activation, hardware footprint, 1 installation" type licenses, but this looks quite interesting.

How does one go about moving a license to another computer?

Is there a provision in place to handle the (un-thinkable!) event of your company going out of business vs. license transfers?

Damir Bulic Forgot to reply to your license move question - just uninstall on one machine and reinstall on another, everything magically works. If old machine's HDD dies so you can't uninstall, you can send us an email and we will deactivate it for you.

The product appears to be quite new, so Google doesn't find any reviews, either.

HJ B This application is not ready for release:

1. Documentation is difficult to follow because of English grammatical errors. The documentation also does not adequately convey the procedural flow of the program.

2.Since I was not able to get the program to do much, it is not clear whether that is because of my inability to understand the program flow or because the authors overstate its ease of use.

3. ON my system, running Sys 7-64 ultimate (1680x1050), some of the windows are distorted, so that buttons and captions are partially off the screen.

4. Following installation, I notice a drag on the system reaction time. While I cannot say, for certain, that it was this program that caused it, I have not previously had such a problem. I rebooted and I think the problem has disappeared, but I am not certain.

5. It is quite easy to provide documentation in pdf format. I wonder why so many authors limit themselves to help screens. In this particular case, a pdf document could also include bookmarks that were generated by the program.

It seems to me that Bit du jour should have some kind of standard with regard to the adequacy of documentation.

Damir Bulic I guess documentation could be improved quite a bit, we will take care of it in the following months. Nobody complained about lack of PDF, so although it's few clicks to recreate PDF, too, I don't see why to add another 1 MB to installer for something nobody asks for.

Charlie N This may seem like a simplistic question but I am used to desktop products like dbase, foxpro, access. Question: Can I use Rapid Query from the desktop to connect to an online database on a website and query, edit, update it?

Questions 2: will the queries integrate with my HTML code (copy paste) with interactive web apps? Or is it better for ad hoc queries by the devloper?

R M Not quite ready for primetime.

1. Should have the option of hot key execution
2. Can't close query result tabs
3. Excel output is weak. Defaults to xls with no option for other versions. App will crash if over 255 columns. You can manually change to xlsx but excel won't open it due to format issues.
4. Can't read selected database due to black text in dark blue highlight.
5. The "Intellisense" doesn't recognize functions (SQL Server) nor highlight the keyword. There should be an option to set the editor up accordingly.

-Not worth the money. There are other tools out there for similar $$ with better functionality.

This has potential but still has a ways to go.

Rapid Query is for ad-hoc queries, we didn't make any efforts for web developer integration as we feel it is not its true purpose.

1. Ctrl + E, that's standard hotkey
2. Query result tabs are not in a way, they are just tabs, so navigate back to SQL script and you don't see them anymore.
3. We can look into it - we support Excel (all versions) in all our apps, nobody complained about it in RQ
4. Never noticed that - perhaps it's color scheme on your machine. We'll check, though.
5. It does recognize functions, and in fact, it offers immediate help right away as you type.
Seems there is something in your database config that causes issues. Write to support at our domain, we will take a look.

Naveed Ahmed I've been playing with the trial and the autocomplete is obviously the big part of Rapid Query, however, the key required to activate an item is "Enter" only which is different from most other software, where it is "Tab". An option to change this key would be really great.

Also, keeping with the shortcut keys, I'd like to see an option to be able to change the key to run a script. Ideally I'd like to see 2 keys: 1 to run the whole script, another one to only run the script where the cursor is placed (between previous and next semi-colons)

I really like the dark theme options, however they are incomplete - the script editor doesn't change and the table and column names on the left side are still in black. It's hard to read against a dark gray background, the text there should be white as well.

An ability to change the script editor font is essential. I hate Courier.

Steven Avery Can I use this in reverse, to build from scratch a small flat file database and enter, add, update records, view and sort, and then later use a more sophisticated app ? (Your product or other.) e.g. Alpha 5 and Magic and some other database products might support a MySQL database (is that what we work with here ?) and thus could pick up from what is started with RQP ? If I am making sense. When I played with the 5 or so standard products, NaviCat stood out, (ease if use, sensible price) so if you are in that league that is a good sign, especially with the Bits special.
