"A fluid and flexible software that frees you from the constraints of traditional databases." -- Writers Digest"

You have a lot of information that you'd like to organize into a searchable database, but unfortunately you've got little or no experience with setting up or maintaining databases. Of course, you could always go through the trials and tribulations of learning how to set up and operate some kind of convoluted database software...

...Or you could grab yourself a copy of askSam 7 and be up and running in minutes!

askSam 7 is what is known as a "free form" database, and the application is perfect for users who have information that needs organizing but don't want to become database programmers in order to do it. With askSam 7, there's no programming involved - not even query language syntax! Instead, askSam 7 takes any conceivable type of information - email messages, word processing documents, text files, spreadsheets, addresses, web pages, and the like - and turns that information into a searchable database.

It really is that simple. Using askSam 7, you only have two tasks - populate the database with information, then search it whenever you need to look up something. When it comes to populating an askSam 7 database, you can enter data manually, scan documents into the database, or import files directly into askSam 7 from a variety of formats, including Adobe PDF, text, RTF, HTML, Word, WordPerfect, email data types, database data types, and spreadsheets! You can even save web pages directly to askSam7 from within the browser! All of your information is organized into intuitive dynamic folders, bringing yet another degree of organization to your process.

Once you've populated your askSam 7 database, you'll find that there's never been an easier way to conduct searches. You can perform full text searches, use wildcards, boolean operators such as AND or NOT, proximity searches, date searches, and many more. Plus, with askSam 7, you can save your search results to an Excel spreadsheet file with a single click! And, when it comes to manipulating your data, you can use askSam 7's integrated drag-and-drop Report Writer to design great looking reports in a flash!

G. E. Hi,
there seems to be something TOTALLY wrong. Original Prices:
ask sam STANDARD $149
asksam Professional $349
on https://www.asksam.com/on...og.asp?req=

But here you promise the professional versio as original priced $149. Is this a reduced version, special offer before BDJ or reduced in funnctionality?

Tony Kohlruss if the deal says "Pro" then deliver the pro version.. or .. change the deal title to say "Standard". If this is just a misprint by you or BitsDuJour that's fine if it is corrected promptly. If the Standard version is being offered but the ad still says Pro then both companies will lose credibility.

Ralph Bressler Even though I had some questions about the development of the program, I was going to buy the Professional version for $70 as stated in the offer. Now I see that the Professional version is $100 or $30 MORE than is stated in the offer. This is just downright WRONG and somebody should make good o0n the offer. Why have questions been raised since Thursday without any answers from BDJ or the program developer? Makes one wonder what kind of support will be available once the program has been purchased!

Nico Westerdale Sorry for the problems in the title reading "Pro", totally our bad.

The Pro version is usually $395.00, and our offer has it for $99.95. The regular version is $69.95 today.

Ralph Bressler Can someone explain the difference between Standard and Professional. I read the statement "askSam Professional includes all the features of the Standard version and adds full-text indexing to give you lightning-fast searches" found on the website but it is not very clear. Does Standard index? If so, on what? Are Standard searches "slow" and Professional searches "lightning fast"? Is this one difference worth more than double the price?

Wade Goodman Hi all. Very sorry for the deal. I have been traveling and I'm the one responsible for handling the BDJ specials. We have made several offers for askSam on BDJ and have always offered all three of our products at heavily discounted prices. The $99 pro offer is the lowest offer we make on that product. Sorry for the mistype - I completely missed it in my proofing too.

Standard version still makes very fast searches but can slow a bit as the file gets larger. Full text indexing I the pro version ensures that search speeds stay fast no matter of file size.

Hope this helps.

DroidLuvr I agree with Tony Kohlruss above: You should by now have fixed the ad - it still says PRO. My understanding is that is illegal to offer something and then not deliver it unless the advertisement is promptly corrected. (At least in California, merchants have to either promptly and publicly notify customers of a misprint or honor the offer as it is shown...)

As of now (Sunday 4/29/12 at 11:40 a.m. PDT) this offer STILL SHOWS THE PRO VERSION (even after your note 3 hours ago that is is not Pro.) I think that you should honor the advertised Pro offer as long as the Pro is still being shown as the offer, even hours after you discovered the error, but have not changed the ad...

If I had not logged in to read all these posts, how would I know it was not the pro version I was getting? That's just not right and it certainly isn't good for your company's image; it makes me wonder how future updates and support will be :(

Jim McGowan On the askSam website's Purchase page the only difference mentioned between Standard and Pro versions is the full text indexed search function. Is that truly the only difference between them? (Other than the price) I don’t see a version comparison chart on the site.

Thank you.

bvssunnydale To answer the difference between Standard and Professional question, I'm a long time user. I consider it the most valuable program ever and it frequently makes me look like a genuis at work because of the speed with which it can find information (need a reps phone number from 10 years ago, or an opinion on a software program, or an obscure tax rule you vaguely remember, it's all there). The beauty of it is the free-form nature of the database - but I can't imagine using the 'Standard' version simply because searches AREN'T almost instanteous. At $70 or $100 this program is a steal (but, like most programs, it's only as valuable as the info you put in it) but, again, I wouldn't even consider the "Standard" version - get the pro for your own sanity (I've exchanged many emails with askSam telling them that the indexing feature is so critical that they shouldn't even be selling a "Standard" version. Just say'in.

Ralph Bressler bvssunnydale, you seem to be a satisfied user so...is it an issue that this version, as far as I can tell, was last updated in 2009? How is customer support? What commitment does the developer have when there is so much time between versions? Is this program a dead end or is it being actively developed? Can anybody answer these questions?

Wade Goodman Hi all,

We are still actively working on askSam and providing support. We have released a paid update to the product in some time buy we have released several free maintenance releases during that time.

Unfortunately, we do not have a plug-in for Firefox to save pages directly asksam. You can of course cut and paste portions of text from any browser into askSam. You can also save pages to HTML, TXT, RTF, etc. and import into askSam.

Dev G No FIREFOX PLUG-IN?
Is this a joke?
I downloaded the askSam trial, and was ready to switch from pretty-but-clunky MSONENOTE. While MSWORD is superb, I'd never use vastly underfeatured, MSie browser. And more than 40% of people online in the US/Canada seem to feel the same way in the quality and speed of FireFox.
Not to mention that now I'm looking closer, it appears that askSam is about 100%-200% more expensive than most of the PKM/PIM's I've seen so far.
But no FireFox plug-in is the deal breaker for me, though.
On the other hand, I've bought 4 great softwares via BDJ over the last 2 years.
How about a better personal database that integrates with FireFox? And doesn't cost close to $300 for one single personal user license? C'mon BDJ, find us a PKM/PIM database for regular small business users.

David User Hi, Is this thread still alive?

If so, it is correct that I can get the Pro version of AskSam 7 for $99.95?

Is this a true Pro version with support?

Thanks,

Bill User I used to have AskSam and even went to their training program in FL. I have many records in the original AskSam and I want to be able to open them and continue with the software. Will AskSam 7 open the old original files? I am willing to try out the software if it will open the old files.

Constantin Florea @Charles Beauchamp, Once a promotion ends on our site, the promotion page remains there (showing the regular price) because we can reuse that page for a future promotion. Considering the high number of promotions we run, after a promotion ends, we can't keep track of every product to see if the product site is still valid.

Ela S. Following up the comments above conc the discontinuation of AskSam, I just found an interesting program rsp note which might help to save and migrate data and documents:

"MyInfo is a free-form organizer, which is a suitable alternative for the discontinued free-form database tool AskSam. Thanks to the AskSam import plugin, you can quickly import your AskSam documents and start using MyInfo right away." [https://www.milenix.com/myinfo/asksam]

The MyInfo PIM is available here at BDJ:
