Consider the fax machine. Sure, you may not feel the need to have one, but throw in one or two highly influential clients and businesses that insist on communicating with you via fax, and you may find yourself shelling out the bucks for yet another piece of office equipment. It doesn't have to be this way, though. Not if you take advantage of today's stellar discounted software promotion, called, appropriately enough, Fax Machine!

Fax Machine gives Windows users the ability to capture all of the functionality of a fax machine using only a scanner and a modem! With Fax Machine, you'll easily save the expense of an actual fax machine, and your clients and other fax recipients will never be the wiser!

Is it complicated? No! Just place a document into your scanner, launch Fax Machine, click the Scan Page button, then click Send Fax! That's it. You can even "print" documents from any Windows application right to Fax Machine.

Bonus features include the ability to forward inbound faxes via email, automatic printing of inbound faxes, send/receive logs, and even a junk fax filter. Fax Machine even supports distinctive ringtones!

Anthony Whalley Just a quick question. Do you require a built in modem or will it recognise the ADSL2 modem connected to the PC?

Nico Cuppen You will need an analog fax modem, either built in or external, connected to an analog (voice) telephone line.
Faxing has nothing to do with the Internet. You can't use a broadband modem (either cable or ADSL) to send or receive faxes. Sorry.

Nico Cuppen We stopped recommending modems a long time ago. With so many modem brands and frequently changing models out there, with even more frequently changing driver software, we wouldn't dare to recommend one particular brand/model. Sorry.

Glenn Crouch I've been a very happy user of this product for many years - and Nico has always been very responsive to support emails - not that I've had too many of them ;-)

HJ B @Nico Cuppen
Thank you for your response.

To clarify response 7, are you saying that if I want to send the same fax to three people, I cannot list the thre recipients, but must initiate the fax process three times?

16. If I assemble a fax from several sources (scanner and two digital documents) and put a covering message on a coversheet, will I also have to do that all over again, or will the assembled material from the first scan be available to send to the other recipients?

Two additional questions:

17. Can the number of rings be set for an incoming fax, before the program captures the line?

18. If an incoming fax call fails, is the failed attempt logged?

Marilyn Cremona Currently I use Fax2mail- I scan the document, open the software, enter the fax # I want to send it to, I then upload the document and click on send. When I get a fax I receive it through my email, click on the attachment and then print it.

Does this work basically the same way? My second question is will I have to change my current fax #? All of my business cards already have this number on it.

Andrew Griffiths This is wonderfully elegant software. Fax seems so outmoded now & I rarely send faxes so I was very skeptical initially about this software. However, it's worth every penny for the couple of times per month that I have to use fax to send signed documents to recipients that are not set up to receive secure emails. The confirmation of fax transmission pages is great & I think I'll start using fax more now that I don’t have to depend on Win 7 fax software which seems klunky by comparison or my old fax machine which is a pain to hookup when I need to use it. Kudos to the developer.

Nico Cuppen Marilyn:

I don't know Fax2mail.
In Fax Machine you open the software, scan a page, click the Send fax button, enter the fax # (or select it from the address book) and click the Dial and send button.

As I said, I don't know how the Fax2mail service works, so I wouldn't know whether you can keep using the same fax number.
Fax Machine uses a telephone line, connected to your fax modem, to send and receive faxes, and your fax number will be the number of that telephone line.

paulo ferreira this software has the function of speaking before sending the fax with a request for a fax tone?

Nico Cuppen Yes. While having a phone conversation you can instruct the other side to start their fax machine. Once you hear a fax modem whistle you can click 'Send fax' in Fax Machine's main window, and then the button 'Don't dial, just send'.
