Bruno Verschraegen The HideIPPro website is flagged by Norton as potentially dangerous in that it would contain "drive-by download" code. Can the maker of the HIP programme step in and reassure us that this is not the case?

Do not need any comments from readers about Norton being bad and that I need to use other security software; too many forums already are full with this kind of reactions (I do not like WIndows, I do not like Apple, I do not like Norton, I do not like AVG, I do not...) without adding anything substantial to the discussion. All I look for is feedback about the trustworthiness of the site and the tool. I assume all is fine, but then again... sometimes sites are hacked and bad things happen. It happened to my former website of my former company into which someone had injected invisible pages that eventually led to my site being blocked because of illegit activity without me realising that...

CJCotter This sounds like a great program, but it would disable some website purchases that obtain your IP address as a security measure against fraud.

HYIP Support Hello!

@Bruno

Not sure buddy, it might be from the IP display on the front page I bet. As ornery as Norton is, it probably flags itself. lol

In all seriousness though, we don't do malware. Period. Our website or our software. It's not how we do business. So we assure our product and everything about it is clean.

@CJ

That's right. :.)

It blocks your IP. Bingo.

You would turn on and off as needed.

Thanks everyone!

SoftCollector Dear Developer,

1. How is this better than Hide My IP (which is much cheaper)? Does it, for example, include a cookie eraser when changing the IP? Does it slow the connection as much as Hide My IP?
2. Is the version/plan offered here with a bandwidth limitation?

Kind Regards,

Brian H Dear Paul Internet Co.,

As SoftCollector' post above, I am also interested how "Hide IP Pro" compares (and would be superior to) programs such as "Hide My IP", and also another very popular program that has been around for quite some time now, "Anonymizer" (now "Anonymizer Universal"); as well as what looks like another of your own programs offered above at 30% discount "Hide Your IP Address".

Also, in looking at the policy tab, "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for current subscriptions" - does this mean free lifetime updates for the product, once purchased?

Thanks,
Brian

SoftCollector Further questions:

1. As noted above, Hide My IP is a product very similar to yours. I have received the following note from their Support: 'We do not provide or sell any information to third party companies.'
2. Unlike Hide My IP Hotspot Shield Elite does provide and sell 'anonymous' user statistics to third parites: 'AnchorFree may share anonymous data with a variety of third parties, including its affiliates, advertisers, and other current and prospective business partners. AnchorFree may use anonymous data collected for website administration, advertising, and promotional purposes, and may share such information with various affiliated and unaffiliated entities for such purposes.' How about your company – do you collect, share, sell, provide anonymously or otherwise user-related information to third parties?

Kind Regards,
SC

No, we don't collect or pass on any information to third-parties

Yes, works with all connections. Should work fine with any other products, but would suggest the free trial to test first.

F C Without giving away your trade secrets, could you comment a little bit about the way your product works? One of your competitors has very bad reviews since it's called extremely slow. So I wonder...

Your IP address is needed for the other site in order to answer you, which means, to send data back to you. So any IP address "hiding" must find other means.

First, we have proxy servers. They work this way: You send your data to the proxy server, which knows your IP address (in order to charge you resp. to count back your monthly data volume, AND in order to answer you); the proxy sends your request to the target site, with an IP from the proxy. The target site sends data back, to the proxy, which means, to that particular IP of the proxy; the proxy then sends you this data it has received from your target site.

Which means, no criminal offences because your "anonymity" is all relative: If you commit crimes et al., the proxy will give your real IP and identity not to the target site, but to the authorities.

Since all your traffic must run thru the proxy, two times, in each direction (and some processing within the proxy, for replacing your IP, etc.), those proxies charge a monthly or annual fee and mostly have some monthly max. bandwith. I also suppose that the more such a proxy charges, the faster you'll get your data (since sufficient proxy servers for the data stream); if you get if for just a few bucks, they simply can't have enought bandwith.

If you want that for free, there's the alternative of mixing up many pc's, including yours, as a common "server", and mixing up all data for thousands of people, so that the target site doesn't know to whom the data sent. This is very slow and very unreliable, but for criminals, it has the "advantage" that there is no one commercial proxy to give away your identity, whatever you do.

Now for YOUR concept. You charge a one-time fee and say it's NOT a proxy. So what is it, how does it work, since, again, the target site or some technical thing in-between, call it a proxy or whatever, must "know" your IP in order to send data back to you. Curiously, googling for such systems only brings sites of your and of competing products, without any information what way these products work.

Some people in the web say you'rs best, within this range of products, but I don't dare rely upon such a thing without having the slightest idea how it guarantees my anonymity - if it simply HID my IP address, I wouldn't even see the target pages, so there must be more about it.

Software Babe I just installed your software. I set it for Pompano Beach, FLA as my location. However, when I went to http://whatismyipaddress.com/, it showed me where I actually reside. SOMETHING IS NOT WORKING.

Any suggestions?

Roderick Nicolson I've just tried the trial software and it's worked perfectly. I was a bit sceptical because I've used another IP hider for a just under a couple of years before which used to work fine but doesn't anymore.
The owner told me that the new technology being used in web browsers was stopping it from working and that only a proxy could do the job now. However the proxy I was given was terrible so I gave up on it.
Looks like he was wrong though.
I setup Hide IP Pro for the UK, check the ip address (good) and played iplayer without any problems. I'm over in Korea. Surprisingly it ran without any stutter. I thought it would struggle but it didn't.
Hope it continues this way.

Roderick Nicolson Hmmm! Have just tried to buy Hid IP Pro and have had the same experience that many others seem to get these days.
It makes little sense that I can buy from one company without a problem and have a complete failure with another.
Surely it indicates that the cause of the problem is the rubbishy programming of a number of these organisations that do the money transactions. Someone should take them to task for it.
It must be costing businesses millions in failed sales. They may think they're protecting the sellers from criminals but from my own experience and from what I see and hear they're mostly blocking ordinary customers from making their transactions.
How clownish is that?

SoftCollector Roderick,

Can you be more specific about the software you had problems with? Was it Hide My IP by any chance? And what problems did you have with it?

www.bitsdujour.com is a great place to share information about software, but it only makes sense if information is specific.

Stage One @software software Have you given permission for your firewall to access the program? Also , if you are using AOL , the main AOL browser might not run through the proxy( and still show your real IP address) , but Internet Explorer or an equivalent browser should.

Roderick Nicolson I don't know what the software used is called. I wasn't talking about a desktop program as such but about the organisations that are being used by sellers to receive our payment.
I'm guessing you use a third party organisation through which my card transaction went through.

As I said, I went through the process of buying Hide IP Pro but as soon as I clicked the pay button a screen came up saying the transaction had failed. It amazes me that it was able to make that decision so quickly.
Anyway their is nothing wrong with my card and I checked to ensure the details were correct. So what happened, and why have I not heard back from you by email about this?
The screen message reported that you would get back to me to try and rectify this problem.

VLM SoftCollector - Thank you! I was hoping you would have an opinion. I simply don't know enough to evaluate in this category.
Oct 26 2012 at 8:04pm Copy Link

SoftCollector @VLM

Well, then let me share my opinion. :)

1. Hide My IP has 3 types of services: basic, standard and premium. I am not sure what they call basic, but when you buy a license from them you get the 'standard' deal. Then, for the payment of $7 per month (or $84 per year) they get you the 'premium' deal, where you can actually choose between their IP's in different countries (and better speed, which is essential) – the standard simply gives you an available IP, wherever it is available, be it Turkey or Canada, with the option of choosing US IP's only (if that is what you want), so that you could try and dupe www.hulu.com, for example :)
2. Now, Hide My IP also offer (for additional payment) products like Cookie Crumble and Hide My MAC Address, which (with all fairness) would be a great addition to Hide My IP, if they didn't cost extra.
3. With Hide IP Pro what you get is a better looking interface and the ability to choose between IP's right off the bat (equal to the premium package of Hide My IP).
4. Also, if you visit Hide My IP's promotion page here) you will learn what an interesting encounter I had with those guys yesterday, and how they demonstrated that they didn't know what they were selling. It even came to a point where I asked for my money back, and they played deaf.
5. Now I own Hide My IP and Cooke Crumble and together they are one nice package, but the problem is that the speed of their standard package is simply not enough for watching multimedia online, and at times – for casual browsing. In this respect Hide IP Pro is better.
6. However, Hide My IP is also more configurable with options to hide the page you are coming from, what browser you are using, to clear the cookies at IP change (if you buy Cookie Crumble), etc.

Words of caution:
1. By using any of the two mentioned software titles (or a similar one) you are pretty much at the mercy of the developer / operator of the software and the machines in the different countries, where you use the IPs. They may promise that your information is secure, but if they choose otherwise they can ruin you. All you passwords, etc. will be in their possession if they so choose. In most instances having your email password should be enough to them to get access to everything else.
2. Now, as you saw a couple of days ago, some vendors, like the developer of Hotspot Shield Elite, say it right away: we anonymously sell your data to advertisers. Others, like Hide My IP and Hide IP Pro say: 'We do not do that.' However, there is no obligation on Hide My IP's site, and even if there was, we will never know until it is too late.
3. So, use this software at your own risk. Basically, do not hide your IP all the time, and while you do, do not enter any sensitive information that might cost you.
4. Even if you do buy any of those titles, hiding your IP can be unsuccessful. It does not depend on just using this type of software, but also on clearing your browser's cache and cookies, on cleaning certain Windows files, etc., so most of the times it will be unsuccessful even if you pay top buck for any of these. But they make for an interesting pass time :)
5. Ultimately, there is no anonymity in Internet. Your anonymity is the fact that at this point no one really cares who you are or what you do. The moment they become interested, Facebook or Google would be more than happy to tell them anything they know about you, and it is more than you think :)
6. If you want your privacy, unplug the cable of your computer.

Kind Regards,
SC

Roderick Nicolson I'm most unimpressed with Hide IP Pro's support. I've sent 2 emails and put 2 messages up on here but they haven't bothered there arses to help me with my problem.

Software Babe Well, I am very disappointed because after I uninstalled your trial software, it totally screwed up my Internet access. I used REVO Uninstaller PRO (registered) and it uninstalled it and then I rebooted. I had absolutely no Internet connection. Luckily I am a Network PRO and was able to diagnose it all. I must tell you that your code reset my Router and I had to re-configure it by re-installing a backup config file for it.

I do not know exactly what your software does, but it screwed up my PC and if a newbie has to go thru this, they would be screaming!

PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY YOUR SOFTWARE FEELS THE NEED TO RE-CONFIGURE MY ROUTER????????

SoftCollector Interestingly, Hide IP Pro looks quite similar to Easy Hide IP here: http://www.easy-hide-ip.com/ The latter is probably the maker, and the former – a reseller of the product.

Also, on the above site Easy Hide IP is sold for $29.95 (not a sale price), while we bought Hide IP Pro for $24.95 here with a declared reduction of 59% from the above stated price of $59.95, which would mean that the reseller is usually selling the same product for $30 more than the maker? Difficult to accept.

In all fairness this was probably a reduction of just $5 = 16.69% cheaper, which would make it one of the most 'expensive' sales on bitsdujour.

I would be happy to be proven wrong by the vendor.

Kind Regards,
SC

Gerald Attrick SoftCollector,

Quite similar? I would have said "virtually identical." Far as I can tell, the only difference is the title bar on the initial screen. You're right about the prices, too. I would only observe that Easy Hide can also be renewed for $29,95 per annum. I presume the "sale price" of Hide IP Pro will not be applied to the annual renewal fee... which will likely be the full $59.95 price. I asked about renewal prices earlier, but never got an answer. Not hard to imagine why.

This sort of thing doesn't happen with Easy HIde. When you ask them a question, you get an immediate confirmation via e-mail and a comprehensive repy within a day.

Oh, did I forget to mention? I've been using Easy HIde for the past year, and I'm about to renew... even more happily now, thanks to this remarkable BitsDuJour offer.

Caveat emptor.

Roderick Nicolson I'd still like to know why both the seller and BitsDuJour completely ignored my emails and the messages I put on here about my failed attempts to buy this product.
It feels as though there was a deliberate conspiracy to stop me buying it. But why?

I wonder if either of you might find the decency to try and explain to myself and others your reasons for this?
