Here's the thing about search engines -- the folks out there are doing SEO for their OWN benefit, not YOURS. They want their websites to show up at the top of the page for any given search word or phrase, which doesn't necessarily guarantee that those sites will be the most useful for your own purposes when you're doing a search. Next thing you know, you're deep into six or seven pages of search results, trying to knit together an answer to your query and getting more frustrated with every second that passes. That's why there's iMetaSearch Pro.

iMetaSearch Pro tailors search results to your own research methods! With iMetaSearch Pro, results are compiled from several search engines and presented to you. Nothing new, right? Except with iMetaSearch Pro, you now can mark the first few results with your own personal relevance score!

When you mark a result with your personal relevance score, it causes iMetaSearch Pro to then update and sort the results to more closely align with what you are looking for! The more results you mark, the better idea iMetaSearch Pro gets of what you're seeking. Search for 'Paris', and within a single personal relevance score, iMetaSearch Pro will know if you're looking for Paris Hilton or Paris, France. A few more scores, and iMetaSearch Pro knows you're looking for Paris, Texas. iMetaSearch Pro even sorts results into conceptual groups for an even cleaner and more efficient research experience!

Charles Paulson I have investigated and found that the email was put in my spam filter for some reason. I have reset the key and apologize for the inconvenience. Sorry for the late response, but thanks for buying the program.

H. H. Hallo,
alhtough the software has some interesting features, to my opinion there are 2 dealbreakers:

a) the lack of possibility to add own search machines (a Feature that has been asked for for more than 2 years, but the Software does not really seem to be under constant development

b) the hardwarefootprinted activation limited to 2 activations on 2 machines

That was an older posting /Feature request - but it seems, that one has to give up the hope of really bigger improvements and more possibility for customization of search engines

I´m a buyer of version 4, but have to say that I stopped using the software because the difficulties with german language /google.de and the missing of ability to add own search engines.

1.what´s the current development status of adding own search engines?
I found these answers from your company reading old comments at bdj
posted Feb 20 2011 and at 0ct.1.2012

In the current version you cannot add your own search engines but that is on the list to consider for future versions.

Charles Paulson As you note, adding your own search engines is a common request. This was in an earlier version of the program, but hardly anyone used it, so we took it out. There are lots of issues having to with cookies, logins, security, etc that make this difficult to do. We have decided for now not to add it in.

On the second point, the license does say 2 activations, but if your hard drive crashed or you are upgrading to a new computer we will give you more activations. We have done this for many people. It's really just a means of making sure people don't abuse the program and try to run it on many computers at one site with just one license.

The program is really aimed at English because of the stop word list (words like "and', "of', "is", etc) which are stripped out before doing analysis and other things. It has not been tested with other languages.

Thanks for bringing up these issues.

VLM Does it enable search within a search? Honestly, as a deep researcher, I can tell you that this capability would be worth far, far more than all this "relevancy scoring" that seems popular these days.

Charles Paulson You can search words and phrases within a search by using the Words Filter function to find people, websites, or matching text, but you can't search results other than by sorting (auto sorting by relevance along with marking multiple "good" results is pretty powerful).

Once you have done a search, you can quickly do follow-up searches by right clicking any word or phrase. The words and phrases can also be ordered by relevance beforehand, so you can choose the most relevant words and phrases for follow-up searches.

D Rogers I bought this a few days ago. Fun to use after a small learning curve. Indispensable if you have to find medium to harder searches. Will save much time and frustration instead of scrolling through irrelevant links without it. I found this program is not so great for finding current news so I would not use it for that. But everything else shines.

VLM I often find myself searching for hard-to-find documents, such as letters and reports written centuries ago, things like that. In many cases, I eventually locate a handful of sources ... Avalon Project at Yale, Online Library of Liberty, etc., to which I return again and again. Can this software learn based upon that, rather than upon keywords? For what I do, keywords don't seem to help all that much.

I'm open-minded ... and I've tried other tools with minimal success. Ergo, my inquiry.

Charles Paulson D Rogers - thanks for the kind words.

VLM - iMetaSearch learns relevance based on what words and results you have marked and then finds similar ones. You can just mark results and it will find similar results based on patterns of words, but ultimately it does all come down to what words are in the result.

VLM Charles Paulson - Thank you for your kind response.

You write: "ultimately it does all come down to what words are in the result". But I KNOW that certain sources are highly likely to provide excellent results, and I KNOW that a very, very large number of sources provide tripe. So what would actually work would be a hot list (actually, multiple hot lists, for different projects ... a physics hot list would differ from one on American constitutional law), THEN apply word scores or whatever. I cannot comprehend why you (or any vendor) would resist such a suggestion, as it's incredibly easy, quick and cheap to implement!!!

Also, genuine search-within-a-search would be extremely useful.

Both of these features wouldl be MORE useful than any scoring scheme you can likely ever invent.

Just my feedback ... but in a world where not all opinions are created equal, in this instance, I do know what I'm talking about. :)

Charles Paulson VLM - you are right that depending on your interests, some sources are much better than others. Part of the issue is that these sources probably differ for each person, so there would have to be a way for each person to add them into the search program. Then you get into cookies, logins, security and lots of customer support needed depending on how hard it is to add a source.

Search within search is a good idea. Thanks for bringing these up.

VLM Yes, that's exactly what I'm suggesting, a capability for each user to build "projects", such that each project would consist of one or more domains, which that user KNOWS are likely to be particularly useful in the execution of that particular project. I imagine each user would be responsible for his/her own cookies, logins, and the like ... I know that for certain sites, I MUST allow cookies. Examples are the New York Times (NYtimes.com) and the Heritage Foundation (heritage.org). But that's my responsibility, not yours, though I suppose you could automagically authorize session cookies for user-identified sites, or at least enable an option to do that. My point here is that I would not expect YOU to support the addition and maintenance of cookies or cookie exceptions for sites that I identify, as that would be kooky!!!

Charles Paulson We are sorry about our lack of response. I have investigated and found that your emails, starting on 12/4, were filtered our by the spam filter in gmail, so we did not see them. This could be because most of the messages were in Polish. I will send you private email about solving this problem. Sorry for the problems in getting the program re-installed.

Loco78 * Everything became clear :-) The program is very useful when searching for a life easier. In addition to a rich interface very good thing is direct access to the selected result after clicking on the displayed result. I use it every day and now I had to crash the laptop after installing a new system and all the programs I had problems with activation to release the full version but everything works as it should. Due to malfunctioning mail my emails asking for help from three days ended up in their spam folder and I could not contact them to fix the problem but it is ok :-) Finally, and I can quickly and easily get all the search results
Apologies for the technical assistance for the harsh words in the last message.
Regards

Loco78 * Thank you for your help the problem was solved my license key has been reset in the database of the manufacturer of the program and could re-activate the program.
It's kind of pointless because every time when I'll have to upload the program again in case of an emergency need to contact the manufacturer to reset the activation key for my full version is better-able to solve.
