Software Guy Neat little program with a simplified editor. You really must try it to appreciate it. It is ideal for laptops and netbooks. There are a few more screenshots on the website, down a bit on the right side column - click on a thumbnail to bring up a slideshow.
Then check out the nice and simple workflow PDF here : http://www.cerieus.com/ma...rkflow.pdf
I liked the simple and easy watermarking feature, where you can put your name or an event tag or a description on the photo in a small (or big) transparent (adjustable) font. You can tag and group photos. The editor has color tools and saturation for easy color enhancement built right in. The more I try the more I find there is to like: various printing options and the ability to create PDF photobooks extremely easily. With a unique watermark text on each photo in the photobook you can assemble a simple photostory book in pdf.
Definitely worth a look, especially for users who have a desktop and a netbook or a laptop and don't want to bog down their portables with a heavy photo editor.

S B Kestrel looks very promising, but I cannot find information to determine if it is appropriate for more than a hobbyist's large collection:

0) If a database/data file is used, what & where is the database?

1) Where are the original images and edited images stored?

2) Where are thumbnails stored?

3) Where is metadata stored?

4) How can things be backed up?

5) Is it possible to have several completely separate repositories, one for each project or client (so that each project's images, thumbnails, metadata & category lists are completely separate from those of other projects)?

6) Will Kestrel handle RAW files?

Thank you.

Cerieus @SB
0) If a database/data file is used, what & where is the database?
This will be stored in your "My Documents" folder

1) Where are the original images and edited images stored?
You choose where you want to save your edited images

2) Where are thumbnails stored?
Thumbnails are stored in the database

3) Where is metadata stored?
The metadata is also stored in the database

4) How can things be backed up?
Kestrel GX will create a folder in "My Documents". You simply have to backup that folder.

5) Is it possible to have several completely separate repositories, one for each project or client (so that each project's images, thumbnails, metadata & category lists are completely separate from those of other projects)?
Yes you can have a separate database for e.g. for personal photos and professional ones.

6) Will Kestrel handle RAW files?
Kestrel GX can handle RAW files.

John H I have been using Thumbs Plus Image managing software for decades .... It is made by Cerious so I was excited when I saw this offer from Cerieus, thinking that maybe Thumbs Plus had an upgrade out. Not so. Cerieus is a different company from Mauritius. (which has a very interesting history.)

Maybe BDJ could get the the other "Serious" software on a deal.
