Mike B I have an older version of Komodo IDE - it's a very nice IDE for web & scripting languages. It does a great job with debugging, which was where all other tools for these languages fell short back when I needed it (it's been a while, so it's possible that other tools have closed the gap).

The only drawback is that it's pricey (even with the discount).

Users should also take note that ActiveState provides discounts for upgrades to new major versions only for users who have the version just prior. If you're 2 or more versions back, no discount. So keep current (maybe with a support subscription), or be prepared to have to pay in full when you decide it's time to upgrade.

U A looks like komodo 7 ide alpha4 is released. what will be the price of the upgrade to that version if we buy this? 145$?

Mike K @ ActiveState @U A:
If you choose to add an Upgrades & Support ($87) subscription to your purchase, all updates and major version upgrades will be included. Not only will you get Komodo IDE 7, but you'll get access to our dedicated Komodo support team and authors.

If you do NOT get Upgrades & Support with your purchase, you can buy an upgrade later on. This has historically been approx. $145, but we have not determined pricing for Komodo IDE 7 upgrades yet.

Mr. B @Mike K

Rails has made a number of changes to improvements. Is Komodo up to date with this?

For example, .rhtml is the old designation, with .html.erb being the current one. Does Komodo recognize the latest Rails standards? Or is it only for older Rails projects?

Mike K @ ActiveState @Brett Bibby:

Komodo recognizes .html.erb files as Ruby on Rails files.

If you're asking about the newish RoR 3 version, Komodo provides basic support for 'out the box' and can be extended further by installing the official RoR extension:

http://community.activest...-extension

So, you should download and install that for full support.

David Fuller What about the Komodo 7 Beta? I purchased with the support so I'm more interested in learning 7 than 6.

Mike K @ ActiveState @Brett Bibby:
The RoR extension is currently coded for Komodo 7 Alpha. We are addressing this for Komodo 6 and it will be resolved shortly. In the meantime, you can try with the Komodo 7 Alpha (link above).

Remember that if you purchase Komodo 6 with Upgrades and Support, you will be automatically upgraded to Komodo 7 when it is launched.

Mike K @ ActiveState @David Fuller:
Komodo does not have the UI designer feature. If by ETL, you mean Extract, Transform and Load with databases, then Komodo has a database browser built in that allows you to browse tables and run queries, but not quite specialized to what someone working with ETL might need.
