Sure, the Windows interface was a great evolutionary leap forward. Instead of staring at a huge list of files in DOS, Windows freed us to maneuver in and out of files just by pointing and clicking. But today, the number of files that can be displayed in a folder is mindboggling, and here we are, back at square one, staring at huge lists of files.

For all of us who are overwhelmed by lists in Explorer, Task Manager, Registry Editor, and a whole host of third party apps, there's Listary Pro!

Listary Pro lets you quickly find and select items from a list just by typing keywords into a tab-revealed search bar. With amazing features like Autocomplete and support for Wildcards, you'll be able to search in any current list at speeds hitherto unknown by traditional operating system standards!

With Listary Pro, you'll also have access to some nifty shortcuts that will just make your life easier. Just type "/cmd" to open a command-line window that automatically points to the current directory on your screen. Use shortcut keys to choose items quickly from big lists. Identify and select several items by fashioning your own specific search pattern using regular expressions! And, if you need to produce a list of items in a specific directory, with just a single click, Listary Pro will export the contents of any list to a CSV-format file for use with Microsoft Excel or Open Office!

Listary Pro is one of those little programs that makes you wonder how you ever got along without it!

Frank Stephens Listary is brilliant! Most Windows UI enhancers are junk, but Listary is quite useful. Not restricted to leading-string search, doesn't depend upon sort order, not typing-speed dependent, much quicker than the full Windows Search, shows instant incremental results, etc. There's a free version, but I'm definitely going to support Bopsoft by purchasing the feature-enhanced Pro version.

Robert Bull What is your license policy, please? Lifetime, or next major release, or whatever? How many computers does it cover?
Thanks...

One Listary Pro license is for a single user, and can be used on multiple computers (as long as you are the ONLY user of these computers). Once registered, you will get life-time updates for free.

Channing Dai Hello everyone,
I've just made a screen recording to show how Listary Pro works with Windows Explorer: http://www.listary.com/video/ . Listary Pro supports various applications like Windows Explorer, Task Manager, Registry Editor, and innumerable third-party programs such as WinZip and WinRAR.

Guy Good I downloaded the software from the "Download - Try Before You Buy" link above and it seems to install the freeware version. Is there any way to see what the added features of the Pro version look like?

The freeware version and the Pro version are packaged into the same installer. Once you enter your registration code, it will update to Pro version automatically.

In fact the main restriction of the freeware version is that it's for personal use only (you cannot use it in your office). You can see some features in the Pro version only at the bottom of this page: http://www.listary.com

Frank Stephens After using Listary some more, I noticed some UI bugs. Windows Explorer will send keyboard input to the file list, but Listary doesn't pop-up unless the user explicitly sets the focus to the file list first. There's also some strangeness in selecting items in Listary's list--it will often jump to another entry.

Could you please tell me more about the bugs (your Windows version, behavior of the bug, your expected behavior, etc.)? If they are reproducible, I can fix them very soon.

Please contact me at support#listary.com , thank you very much!

Frank Stephens Zhenheng Dai, Listary definitely needs some fixes on Vista. Sometimes it doesn't see keystrokes initially even if the file list has the focus. Most of the time, I have my file lists ordered by Date Modified, and it finds things OK (except for the jumping-around problem in its own list), but if I order them by Name, folders are listed first, and Listary incorrectly goes to completely unrelated folders when its pop-up window shows files.

Thank you very much for the information. This happened because Listary indexed items to speed up your search before you sorted them, and the results were based on the old order. I've just made some changes, and it should work well now. Please download the latest version and give it a try: http://www.listary.com/do...istary.exe

P.S. Listary's drop-down list doesn't support mouse currently (I'm working on that), please use TAB or arrow keys (up and down) to select an item from it.

Frank Stephens Zhenheng Dai, great work! Intercepting keystrokes properly, works when list is re-ordered, staying away from the mouse keeps it from jumping. I like the way the search result list wraps between first and last entries. A couple of more requests. Listary responds to the up and down arrows (very handy how it passes the left and right arrows to the main list for horizontal scrolling), and it accepts tab, but it doesn't handle backtab (shift-tab). It would be very helpful if the search box would appear while typing, even if the search results aren't available. There can be a long delay with no display when typing begins.

bvssunnydale Good luck with this. [Readers might also consider the amazingly impressive "Everything Search" which also searches based on file name - It's free, super fast - even the indexing - small, and - best to me - doesn't care where the file is (so don't have to know what folder) and has virtually no learning curve. Just saying..]

Listary Pro is NOT a search tool like Everything, it's an enhancement utility that allows you to select items much quicker and easier from lists. It supports almost all Windows components (like Windows Explorer, Registry Editor and Task Manager) and innumerable third-party applications such as WinZip and WinRAR.

1) The first step to use Listary is to set your input focus to a LIST (that's the right pane in Windows Explorer) by simply clicking it or use TAB/SPACEBAR to switch input focus to it. Listary supports almost all Windows components (like Windows Explorer, Registry Editor and Task Manager) and innumerable third-party applications such as WinZip and WinRAR.

2) Start typing your keyword. If you get more than one items in Listary, use TAB or arrow keys (UP/DOWN) to switch between them.

Paul Grey Thanks for the reply and to the guidance. Well TAB/SPACEBAR only pop up Listary one time and then most of the time changes the order of the files in the hardrive, possible I am doing something wrong. Is it possible to implement another feature in the Listary option menu to change the Hotkey configuration. Users needs easy access to it.

Mike G Darn, I was going to cool off from buying new software for a while, but Listary Pro was too good to pass up!

Works great in Windows Explorer and Task Manager, but isn't working (no pop-up) in Registry Editor for me yet (Windows 7 x64). The developer seems to be very responsive. A promising new product.
