Elizabeth Bright Can we renew at the current rate after the 12 months?
Or purchase multiple years up front at this rate?

If the above answers are positive:
Is this meant to be an encrypted shared file space to compare to DropBox or is this account meant to be used primarily for backup and recovery/restore functionality?

If the latter is the case, are there options for larger spaces still discounted?

Thank you.

Merle One Hi, two questions :
1/ What happens after 12 months, do we lose access to the saved data or it's just new backups that are no longer possible ?
2/ Is the content encrypted on PC/Mac side ?
Thanks.

peter anon If we can renew at the same rate in 12 months, I am in.

If not, then it's bad, as having to move data means we are captive and held a transom!

Merle One On the cart it says the renewal cost is the same, see the small question mark near renewal.

Scott Van Leeuwen I have an external hard drive that acts as a cloud.

Douglas Huddle Peter, if you change backup providers, you just start fresh with them. You never "move" the backup from one service provider to another.

Scott, your external hard drive must be somewhere else not near your computer.

This is a good deal. I would like to know which country the files are stored. In some countries, it is not a crime to take other people's data.

David Ruhmann This datasheet about the service should be linked in the post: http://static-cdn.malware...asheet.pdf

And this: http://www.malwarebytes.o...ckup/#faqs

As for the security it says:

"Military Grade Three-Tiered Encryption
Protects your files at three critical levels
(locally, during upload, and in the online
data center) so you are safe from hackers
eavesdropping on your WiFi connection."

"Private Key Encryption
Secures your files under a password chosen
by you, and known only to you, for complete
safety"

"What happens if Malwarebytes is subpoenaed for my data?
As with any U.S. company, per federal regulations we are required to provide data in the case of a subpoena. However, for those who choose to use UltraSafe on their account, the data would be irretrievable for this purpose and would remain private."

Dana Seaman I'm using the Demo and I don't see a way to restore a folder (only a single file). So what if my HD crashed, or I need to restore a particular folder + sub-folders?

David Ruhmann Interesting, the application has that powered by SOS logo.

Cary Adams According to their website, files are encrypted prior to upload, and are thus useless to others (unless AES has been broken). They use encryption at every part of the backup procedure:

- Before transfer, your data is encrypted at 256-bit AES encryption,
- Transferred over a 128-bit SSL,
- and stored at 256-bit AES at the Datacenter.

FWIW, Malwarebytes Secure Backup is a reseller of SOS Online Backup. More information is available through Malwarebytes forum here:
http://goo.gl/K3T6U1

According to SOS, should you cancel your account,
"... your data will be on our servers for a period of 90 days ... after which all your data will be completely purged."

Software Guy Great deal! Secure cloud backup with a great discounted BDJ price AND a discounted renewal price (Annual) of $29.95. Combine this deal with diligent periodic drive imaging - that capability is built into windows 7/8 - just use a good external drive for the image - and you have solid security for your programs and your data. This is a user license so you can backup your laptop along with your desktop. Thanks BDJ and MalwareBytes.

rodken Love this site, love Malwarebytes but when you can buy an external HD (1TB) for $100 which can be used forever (ok as long as it will last:) the giveaway price is still too expensive, let alone the original price.
Great deal if you don't have alternative HD's or you feel more secure with it online, but for me this is actually a deal I won't go for. If you guarantee that my backup will always be available (no errors) then great. And I also like the ability to share my info with others if I chose, but there are just so many other free types of sharing sites out there to make that part not worth it.
Thanks anyways!
Just to those who disagree with me I may be wrong but unless proven otherwise I stick to my opinion!
Once again thanks anyways, great site, great software providers! I always appreciate the deals/giveaways that you/they provide!

faircot Such a shame that nobody from Malwarebytes has come here to answer the questions that have been raised.

Personally, it doesn't give me much confidence in their ability/willingness to support their service if there are problems in the future. I'll pass on this one.

Bob Horton @rodken

In my opinion, there is one huge advantage to this type of service over your local drive: that's the fact that the data is securely stored IN ANOTHER LOCATION. This provides security in the event of natural disaster (Fire, flood, tornado, etc.) as well as against break-in, theft, or vandalism at your location.

John Gee Bought it, installed it, but it insusted on scanning my WHOLE computer before letting me set which folders to use.
I am not going to use this.
I can eat the $30 but it leaves a BAD taste in my mouth.

Dana Seaman I too was not impressed by the mandatory full scan on startup but once you switch to manual select, this doesn't happen again.
I was worried about no folder restore option but I found that loging into SOSOnlineBackup.com with same credentials and using their interface allows downloading a folder as a Zip file (as well as sharing). They appear to restrict the size of the download so you may need to drill down to a sub-folder. The max I was able to achieve was 30.8 Mb (Zipped size) which uncompressed was 2352 Files, 458 Folders, 77.5 Mb.
The unlimited versioning feature is just what I needed since others are limited to N versions or have other limitations.
Bottom line is that I'm satisfied and think it is well worth the money.

John H A full scan? .... Well it does promise no mal ware and perhaps it this is part of the deal.

Maybe BDJ could confirm this the next time it is offered.

I want to Drop the Box for file back up and syncing. Drop box has been an open door at times to hackers and such and has the keys to give to the Govt if asked.

Malwarebytes has a great policy for privacy but no sync :-(

John Gee @Dana It would be worth the money if I could manage what is going to be backed up from the outset.
I have already un-installed it and will not be using it, despite all the marketing hype. There are better solutions that I already use.

Edward Smith Lauren, support has done nothing to solve this problem.

First it was for 50gb not 100 as promised (I sent support a picture proving this) AND since I already had SOS Online backup installed and active on my system, installing and trying to activate you product has been a total disaster. I was purchasing this because it was a better price and my SOS subscription is almost expired.

I had no idea that your product is just a re-brand of SOS. Now I can't remove Malwarebytes because it will remove SOS, yet SOS will no longer work because Malwarebytes has taken over common files. When I try to remove Malwarebytes, it cautions me that SOS will be removed as well.

A total mess and disaster.

Malwarebytes Corporation Edward-

This promo was for 100GB @ $29.95, the normal price for our 100GB backup is $59.95...this was not for 50GB as you said.

I will follow up with support again to be sure you are helped out. Sorry you are having issues

Thanks
