A lot more of us nowadays are multiple-computer households. We started with a desktop, but then your company issued you a laptop for work, or you went and bought one for yourself. You would think that when you're using your desktop machine, you're not using your laptop, and vice versa - well, here's a nifty new application that makes your laptop perform double duty. Sure, it's a computer, but now you can also use it as a second monitor!

With MaxiVista Pro, you can use the monitor of any spare PC as a screen extension for your primary computer. In fact, you can use the monitors of up to THREE additional PCs to create one gigantic 7,680x1,600 pixel desktop!

Of course, it's not just the size that matters, it's how you use it. Think about the benefits of using MaxiVista Pro - no more overlapping application windows, since you can drag each application out to its own monitor. Work with a lot of toolbars? Keep them all open at the same time! And it's all controlled using a single keyboard and mouse.

But sharing monitors is only the beginning. With MaxiVista Pro, you can also control up to four computers with a single keyboard and mouse! It's so simple, all you've got to do is move your mouse cursor to the monitor of the PC you would like to control via the mouse & keyboard of your main PC. No manual switching necessary!

You can also use MaxiVista Pro to easily share information between computers! Anything that you copy to one clipboard (files, photos, formatted text and much more) is immediately available on the clipboards of any attached machine. MaxiVista Pro eliminates the need for complicated KVM switch setups, allowing you to easily and seamlessly move from working with one machine to another!

Alan Will MaxiVista run under Windows 7?

Michael Schmidt Please find detailed information about the system requirement at http://sysreq.maxivista.com

The current version will not run on Windows 7 as this operating system is not available as a final version. We will provide a new MaxiVista version that will be compatible with Windows Vista and Windows 7 including support for WDDM.

The current MaxiVista v3 offered here will be eligible for a discounted upgrade upon availability of the new version.

Best regards,
Michael Schmidt

Alan Michael,
Thanks for the response.
Since Windows 7 is going to be out in less than 4 months, I'll probably hold off for now, and then get it when Windows 7 version comes out.
It's possible I'll change my mind since I seem to buy a lot of BDJ stuff, but I'll see.

Michael Schmidt As you like. But please note that the price for the current BdJ promo plus the later upgrade will be close to the cost of the the later new version anyway. ;-)

Alan I understand.
Hopefully you will get a good response to the BDJ offer since it's a very good product, and maybe you will offer it again after Oct 22.
I would for sure buy it once it can handle Win 7 since I do not like Vista very much and will be upgrading my system as soon as I can.

Prof Abronsius What a good news, MaxiVista developpers are still alive! Like many other on the forums, I was very disappointed by the lack of support of this product. When a blue screen appears, support disappears...
Hope the new version will resolve these issues!

Kevin Andresen Oh! I wish I knew about this while I was taking software classes.
It set up instantly. No issues with Norton and Kaspersky. The only confusing issue was that the secondary screen immediately shrinks to an icon in the tray and I thought it wasn't working until I saw the new icon. I can change the display on the second monitor as a user on EITHER SYSTEM! I split a VGA-size .MOV file with QuickTime across two 1280x1024 screens. (Pentium III and Pentium M desktops) A .wmv file would only play the left side when split using Windows Media Player but could be moved just fine from screen to screen. This was on Windows XP. Amazingly quick, intuitive (if you've dealt with two monitors before), and full featured. (This was a half-hour using the demo; I haven't installed the full version I just purchased.) I haven't tried anything like an HD movie yet.

Michael Schmidt @Kevin: Please note that MaxiVista does not support hardware acceleration. Please check whether you can disable hardware acceleration (such as DirectX or OpenGL) in your favorite video player. We have made best experiences with QuickTime 7. You may be appealed to try some "benchmarks" but we would not recommend to use MaxiVista to playback HD video. It may put too much load on your PC and you would not enjoy it anyway as the monitor frames would disturb the video. Also, the aspect ratio of two monitors (16:5) would not fit to any common video format.

Kevin Andresen Right, I did know that and I don't want to watch a movie on 2 screens with bezels. QuickTime was the first thing I tried and I found it astonishing. The WMV file I tried was a software instructional video and probably had the lowest frame and bit rate possible.
My aim was to have all the resources I need to learn how to get my VisualStudio work done and MaxiVista seemed to run the things I need... on 2 desktop and 1 laptop screen (in my case).
And VisualStudio 2010 will finally support multiple monitors (I hope that includes XP).

But, hey, listen, I want my HD video lining up with pixels, not the edge of the screen. I'm for suing out of existence, every HDTV manufacturer who expands (or "smears" really) 480 lines to 1080 instead of 960. I can rotate my screens so I get the 1280 vertically (and 2048 horizontal), allowing 1080i/p to fit. Most Windows players do it correctly (a smaller percent of TV cards do.)

Fantastic program! (on XP.)
