Daly de Gagne It appears there is no download for a trial version of The Reader's Edge once I click on the "Download Trial" button. There is some sort of online trial, but it's not the same thing as actually trialing the software on the Windows desktop.

Will there be a download trial offered?

Harald Vogel On February 28th you wrote: "We've ran into a few development issues on v7, so it still hasn't been released. Hopefully in the near future."

And in October 2012 you wrote: "We're putting the final touches in Version 7 that is due out in the next few weeks."

Can you assure us that a Version 7 is still in the making and will be released? Do you have any news? To me it seems almost that development has stopped and Version 6 will be the last. I really hope that I'm wrong.

David Zhang One feature mentioned says " online edition works on all computer with Flash installed", what does this mean? Does the purchase include PC version and online version as well? Does the online version have all features similar to the software version?

Matt I purchased 'The Reader's Edge' (TRE) through BDJ in October 2012.

I need to move my licenses from two old PCs onto two new PCs. This 'de-activation' process needs to be done through TRE's customer service.

I've sent TRE's customer service several emails requesting this transfer of licenses. I have not received one single reply from TRE.

I am unable to use The Reader's Edge software because they are locked on to two computers that are no longer in use.

Maybe they could address my issue here and give me further instructions.

Daly de Gagne Matt, your experience, and mine asking about a download and getting no answer directly from The Reader's Edge makes me leery about buying the program.

I don't think TRE is all that interested in customer service. I can only go by what I see. Other software developers monitor the messages here when their programs are on offer.

Had I know it would end up this way I would have bought Ace Reader - which I had downloaded. Actually, I had hoped to download both and then decide which to buy. I waited on TRE and that was a mistake. I'd gladly buy Ace Reader, knowing now what I do, but it's too late to get the deal.

Frustrating.

Slartibartfarst Following on from comments above by Daly de Gagne and Matt, from what I can make out the TRE website doesn't actually say exactly how the software and its "simple exercises" will help to improve one's reading speed.
I would recommend caution. The speed-reading market has been replete with shonky salesmen peddling dubious magical products/services for years, starting with the Evelyn Wood franchise in the '50s.
None of it has been certified as being effective. From experience, I would have recommended mechanical devices (shutters, etc.), but even that isn't certain - e.g., refer:

@Slartibartfarst Anon: We completely agree! With a few searches users can easily find negative information about speed reading and companies that promise way beyond what is realistic and attainable (ie, 5-10x reading speed improvement). In the 10+ years we've been selling our software we've tried to market it as more that just speed reading. A large part of the exercises within the software focus on improving comprehension and retention, which are vital parts of improving ones reading skills.

Daniel Gaudet I've just purchased both edition and I find that I am having a hard time looking at the interface text in both versions.

For the windows version I think it's because of the black text on a light blue background. Is there a way to make it look bigger or with a different background without having to change the resolution (1920x1200)?

For the online version, is there a way to just make bigger? Zooming in Chrome has no effect on the size of the application. I tried it on my 24" screen for my desktop and my 17" screen on my laptop (also 1920x1200) and it was just has hard to look at it on either screens.

I am also a bit worried because I will be getting an even higher resolution screen for my desktop in the next few months and it will probably be even more of an issue.

Hi Daly. I really like the new AceReader. I've been using it for years. Bernie is the developer, a friendly guy and a good guy to know. You may want to contact him.

Even though I've had TRE for almost a year, other than installing it, I haven't tried it. I thought it would be a good supplement to AceReader. I just hope I have more success with their customer service. And hopefully the long-promised version 7 is released sometime soon.
