Mitchell Kastner Perhaps you can explain how you organize entries in a session after you enter them into a session.

Perhaps you can also explain how the version 2.0 GUI will improve upon the version 1.XX GUI.

Just as importantly: what is the "drop-dead" date for release of the version 2.0 GUI?

I wholeheartedly endorse ThoughtOffice and strongly recommend that you purchase as many modules as you can. As the publisher says: one great idea that you did not have that you now have because of the program easily pays for the software.

For example, I am writing a technical piece and I stumbled on the creative writer module and started to use it even though I am (hopefully) not writing fiction. One questioned caused me to rethink the entire direction of this lengthy piece: what was the audience's expectation for what I was writing. Whether or not this is an elementary question is quite besides the point, because I had not thought to ask the question myself.

Thank you ThoughtOffice

Mark Effinger Hi Folks! This is Mark Effinger, CEO. Dave is taking the night off, so I'll be your entertainment for the evening. Please strap on your seatbelts, raise your tray tables and turn on all wireless devices. Let's rock this Popsicle stand!

@Mitchell - You're the best. Thanks much.

Let me cover the bases on this for your questions. Then we'll move onto Jerry S.

1) Organizing Session Entries: Easy - select the entry of choice (click in the text area of the Entry). Then use the up and down arrows on the upper left of the Session interface to re-sort the entries.

The selected entry will automagically renumber as it moves through the existing entries.

Mark Effinger @Jerry S - Jerry, you don't need to buy the ThoughtOffice App. If you are missing any modules, you can purchase them at the stepp discount tonight.

This also includes an Upgrade to v2.0, and some additional business, PR and planning docs that you may benefit from as well.

Let me know if that clarifies things. Much appreciate it.

Best,
ME

Mark Effinger A couple additional items in the offer above: We're ALSO including a $49 Social Media PR broadcast via our http://www.PressReleaseNation.com platform.

That means the press release you create with PR|Pro software will get worldwide distribution. Each distribution reaches from 500 to 12,000 different websites (including Google News, Topix, Yahoo, etc...). Each of these sites links back to your site forever. It's a great way to get inbound links, brand mentions, and to dominate the search results.

Next post, I will clarify how I ended up "discovering" online PR as a marketing tool. Stay tuned.

Mark Effinger How I discovered the power of online PR.

"so, Marsh Fisher, the co-founder of Century 21 Real Estate asked me to Il Fornio for lunch. I had just moved to Newport Beach, CA after selling an eCommerce software company. It was the height of the first dot-com rush. And I was embracing every moment.

The lunch turned into dinner. Eventually, we closed the place down. But Marsh, in what I now suspect was a drunken mumble, said "Mark, I think you're one of the few people who could run IdeaFisher. You're young, ambitious, and crazy. All prerequisites to good brainstorming".

So I did. But more importantly, I got the unique opportunity to work with one of the brightest minds I have ever known.

Now, I know you're asking yourself "what does this have to do with PR". Well, just hold your horses. Cuz PR was really at the center of my efforts. But not quite yet (to be continued).

Be right back. I need to get home to tuck the kids in, then set up for the long night. See you shortly.

Jerry S Mark, it's late and I'm tired, so I am probably missing something obvious. How can I order the modules at a steep discount? Just order them from the regular page and enter the discount code?

Mark Effinger @Jerry - I agree. What the heck are we doing up so late anyhow?
Yes, just click through the offer link above, and we'll have the shopping cart handle the transaction. If there are any issues, we'll provide an immediate refund of the difference.

Dave is down for the count tonight, so if anything goes less than perfect, we'll fix it in real-time. We're good like that.

Thanks much.

Mark Effinger @Mitchell - More detail on your questions:

1) The new interface: we're using a new development platform. That platform will make the interface closer to Garageband (not exactly, but more full-screen view, with the separate interface elements all together in one space).

2) It will also have some Video and audio features. We're working hard to integrate dynamic content into the program.

3) Drop Dead Date for v2.0: That's tough. But I suspect, based on current development schedules, that it will be summer 2011. We're working on streamlining the process to make it more modular, have an Open API and create a Module Development Platform as well. So it's a more comprehensive solution.

Let me know if that helps.

John H I purchased Thought Office during the last Bits Du Jour offer. I ended up purchasing the Expert Product Development package. It has been a great help in starting up my engineering and manufacturing business. There are so many sources of information for someone starting a business and most are irrelevant to my situation. Thought Office has helped me out several times. Just the Expert Solutions Module module was worth the price.

Thanks for a great product Mark

Mark Effinger @John H - Dude, thank you so much for the great insight.

And when you get through the process of developing your idea, feel free to connect. I may have some additional resources for you (I've designed dozens of real-world products, one patented, and many doing many thousands or hundreds of thousands of unit sales).

Great to see you exploring.
Keep the creativity flowing,

Mark Effinger OK, so my story continues: I took on IdeaFisher as sort of a quest.

One of the first things I did was to start a PR campaign using PRWeb.com as my platform. (There's a sub-story here, but I'll save it for later).

Anyhow, 2 weeks after the first press release (a $250 investment), and I had replaced my AdWords budget ($3,000 a month).

2 weeks later, we were getting enough traffic from 2 press releases per month to completely eliminate AdWords and Yahoo Search Marketing.

That lead to me joining PRWeb as an Advisor, and acting as Chief Evangelist up through the sale of the company in August 2006.

So... I firmly believe in Online PR. And on the process to create it. So here we are...

I'll fill in some of the blanks later. Have a rockin' morning!

@Gren Bingham: you are correct! We picked up the mantle from IdeaFisher. Click over to http://www.IdeaFisher.com to read the story. Today's discount is far bigger than our everyday discount for IdeaFisher users, so - jump on it now!

Not sure how to answer you, Glen. The product development module is not part of the current promo. Here are the modules included in this bundle:

* Expert Evaluator Module
* Expert Writer Module
* Expert PR Module
* Expert Advertiser Module
* Expert Marketer Module
* Expert Speaker Module

We can sometimes do substitutions. Let us know exactly what you want.

Mark Effinger Hi Charles,

Let me go take a look. We fixed the cart after a series of PayPal-only errors last month. Let me see if the bugger is back (grrr....)

@David Fuller - I need to introduce you to a friend of mine from The Wizard Academy in Austin, TX. After years of experiencing his bone-jarring optimism (not!), we created a P*ssing Stone engraved with his name, in his honor. We use it to help reduce backsplash near a tree frequented by beer-drinking students at the academy.

(All in good fun, of course).

And "yes": when we develop "Guaranteed Awesome Idea Developer v1.0", you'll get first crack at it. Of course, it only runs on the beta version of iOS, on an iPad left in a bar. (Helps us improve the stats for the thing). And we've infused it with Charlie Sheen Tiger Blood (for added horsepower).

David Fuller I saw the choice as either ride the outsourcing wave or be crushed by it...

I'm from Texas; It is truly another country and the greatest one at that. No matter what anyone says to the contrary, to be a Texan, one must be born there.

BTW, Bush isn't a Texan.

Can one develop modules for ThoughtOffice? Or tabs? What integration opportunities are there... I've a number of tools that I use and now it seems that there shall be yet one more from what I've seen so far of this one...

Mark Effinger Hi David - Dude I totally get it. I had a challenge in going overseas (my impatience). But many of my peers have had success with it. So no harm done. I'm more of a global economy guy myself.

Agreed on Bush. I always revert to http://www.youtube.com/wa...kqrI3IibYI as the ultimate expression of Bush hard at work.

Module Development: We have a beta app for this. Once it's solid, we'll be releasing it into the wild (you'll be added to the list. Please email me directly at methoughtoffice.com).

IdeaTabs: v2.0 will have an Idea Tab Compiler app you can use to take any web enabled or local mySQL Lite database and hook it up as an IdeaTab. Pretty straightforward.

Looking forward to seeing your neurons go to work on this, David.

Mark Effinger Hi Bits folks!

One of the most recognized innovation and creativity experts, Mark Fox, has offered his incredibly insightful book, Da Vinci and the 40 Answers to our clients, gratis. It's a guide to brainstorming, with an accent on the TRIZ method (ThoughtOffice has close ties to process used in the TRIZ innovation model).

Mitchell Kastner Mark,

You have brilliantly advertised ThoughtOffice on the web site as the engine to generate the ideas to use in constructing mindmaps. I know that the Session GUI plays a pivotal role in multiplying answers to questions entered into a Session from a module. I was wondering however if it would be possible to skip the Session module and copy the question directly from the module and paste it into a mindmap. Multiple monitors, which are becoming more and more commonplace, enables me to have TO displayed on one monitor and FreeMind on another.

Mitchell Kastner, Esq.

(Off topic: big shout out to Frank Stephens whose posts are invaluable to me.)

Mark Effinger You're too kind, Mitchell.

I wholeheartedly agree with you.

I just (as in "just now - 6:45PST") got off the phone with John England, MindSystems.com.au in Australia. His company is the MindManager channel and training in Australia.

MindManager is the leading Enterprise Mind Mapping solution at the moment (lots of players in that space).

So right now, it's copy=paste.

Next real version, it's right-click=brainstorm=flow into the fork or bubble in the mind map.

We considered building a mindmapping engine into ThoughtOffice, but are focused on reducing complexity, increasing speed, and adding new forms of content (voice and audio recording. Video drag-n-drop into a Session Entry. Drag-n-drop reordering of Session Entries, etc...)

But any input is very much appreciated. We've adopted (after the fact) the Lean Startup methodology. So getting insights early solves many a development issue later.

Thanks again, Mitchell. Are you sure you're an Esq? You sound a like like a CEO/CMO. Just sayin'.

K X Mitchell,

In Windows, you can expand the questions, select (highlight) the desired text with your mouse in the Topics interface, type Control-C to copy it, and then type Control-V to paste it into another program. I've tried it with a few other programs. Does it work with FreeMind?

***

I'm also interested in the ability to create my own modules.

***

I've been reading Mark Fox's book. Thanks for making it available.

Mark Effinger Sorry for the delay, folks.

Playing catchup with emails.

If you have any additional questions, insights or... anything, please email methoughtoffice.com or dlockthoughtoffice.com and we'll rock it.

Also: For those of you who purchased PR|Pro or CEO, remember to queue us as you get your PR ready to go. Create a free account and submit your PR to http://www.PressReleaseNation.com. We will launch it from there and do our Syndication Mojo.

Finally: I am thinking of creating some short videos on how to really approach crafting PR for Branding, Sales, Marketing and SEO. So as they are released, I may connect with you to get you a key to unlock those pieces.

Again: to you, the Bits du Jour team, I say goodnight!
