Loyal Customer I have made several attempts to install this program but it was not possible.
I'm the only user/admin on this machine, so there is no shortage of permissions.
As soon as I double-click the downloaded program, I get this message, and the downloaded program gets automatically deleted.
Here is the message I get:

" Windows cannot access the specific device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

This happens if I download to my "Downloads" folder or to my external backup drive.
The same thing happens if I use "Run as an administrator".
I have no issue installing other software/programs from either location.
I really would like to check this program out. I use multiple packages of photo editing software.

Any help?

Loyal Customer Thank you, Heidi, but I had done that twice already, and the exact same thing happened.
I am now suspecting that AVAST does not like something in the file (installation process) because the file is not even allowed to run, and that message I had mentioned pops up instantly (as soon as the file is double-clicked).

Yes, I checked after I posted my last message, and found that it was AVAST silently blocking it without telling me anything.
There has to be some security concern in the program installation section that AVAST does not like.
I understand it is not a virus, but it is something that security software does NOT like.

Nick User Often times these free shareware installers contain a "wrapper" of some sort that the site adds to the installer to manage offer expiration. That's most likely what Avast doesn't like. Try temporarily disabling Avast and it should install without any issue.

I would agree, yet the copy I sent Virus Total was downloaded from their (Vertexshare) website. So not a wrapper issue, just an Avast FP in my opinion.

Avast Identifies the threat name as "FileRepMalware [PUP]".

I have trusted Avast for many years (20 Plus), and it has always kept my machines clean.
I'd hate to override its action in this case (by turning it off in order to do the install).
I think the vendor should do some work on their code to satisfy the virus scanner.

No need for me to do it.
I do have a couple of commercial software programs that basically cover the functionality of the Photo Effects software.
AfterShot Pro 3, with Perfectly Clear as a plug-in, can do this stuff and much more.

J User As reported by Billy User, I was also unable to activate the program. I tried several times, including requesting a second email for registration. That gave the same key and the same result.

I copied and pasted the key as shown. I tried it with and without the trailing space in the copy/paste.

I just went back into the activation step and backspaced over the trailing space and it then activated successfully.

Roger User My iMac warns me about this software:

“photo-effects-mac-pro-installer.app” cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified.

macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware.

Ford Prefect After I copied and pasted the key I had to remove a leading blank before it would successfully register.
Other than that no problems.

CFGuy Help! Getting error code activating software using activation code sent. Error code reads: "Failed to activate the program.Exceeded maximum number of activations Please contact support

vertexshare.com". My code did not have any "leading spaces" - so prior advice here on the board didn't work. Thanks.
