fan harter I think I answered my own earlier questions.

The price of the "General Writing" is the only one with a $79.99 pricetag.(so that should be the one which will be on sale here at bitsdujour)

1. One thing that needs to be fixed on the whitesmoke site is that you aren't even able to peruse the titles UNTIL you add an email address and name.

I DO NOT want to have to provide that info, JUST to get to the next webpage (where pricing and features are).

2. according to toptenreviews website, whitesmoke is rated 3rd.
Following 1st place writer's workbench and 2nd place "Editor".

I suspect such a site might be a bit biased, and maybe Whitesmoke is actually better than either/both Writers workbench and Editor

Has Whitesmoke any of it's own reviews to provide "us" with in regards to it's abilities ("us" being prospective buyers)?

E P Since there's no demo I can't make a precise comparison, but I currently use SpellCatcher (Mac) and it includes a variety of spelling supplements (e.g., legal, medical, scientific, etc.), multiple languages, and more.
In addition, I also use Grammarian (Mac) and it allows me to choose a variety of writing styles (e.g., academic, casual, business, etc.)
Since English is not my native language I find these tools to be extremely useful. I was initially excited about WhiteSmoke but here are some observations:
-Their website is rated poorly according to Web Of Trust. http://www.mywot.com/en/s...esmoke.com
-Their sales tactics are annoying and untruthful. They have a limited time offer that "ends today" 06/17/09. I've seen the same offer for the past 3 days, since I became interested in the software.
-Even on sale they offer less than competing products given that other versions (e.g., business, medical) are not included.

Unfortunately there aren't many alternatives on the Mac, so I was very enthusiastic about this one. My enthusiasm quickly faded away. If they ever offer a demo and a good price on the Executive Version I'll have another look.

Alan Carr Ah, the perfect opportunity to express my discontentment with 'Whitesmoke'...!

The program itself is not much good, creating conflicts with various apps. The real killer for me was it stopped Web Builder 5.0 from running properly but it messes other stuff up as well.

So no, I cannot recommend it.

Worse, is the behavior of the company. As mentioned above, they use underhand tactics to grab your email and so on. Then, after buying, you realise you're just renting the thing and have to pay again next year. Then to cap it all, the "refund", which took weeks, consisted of "not charging next year".

Avoid like the plague is my honest advice.

Cyndi Queen I used this software for a while and thought it was awful. It made my writing worse rather than better. I was happy to see that the Neat Net Tricks reviewers for the most part agreed.
