anthonyraynor Really interested to see if this deal is every offered. With such a large commercial presence and price tag to match, I will snap it up if it comes in at 50% of.

anthonyraynor I received an e-mail today (9-1-2010) that Abbyy is running a 10th anniversary special on most of their products. The 50% coupon is 10ANNIV, but the special ends Sep. 7. Fine Reader is still fairly high and I already own PaperPort 11 and 12, ReadIris Pro and Evernote. Not sure I can justify the cost, but for those who purchase, Enjoy!

disenchanted I don't know if it is still true, but in the past Abbyy would allow competing product owners(omnipage, textbridge,Iris, etc)
to purchase the Abbyy Finereader UPGRADE [about 50% off the FULL price].
If this is still true, their uprgade policy is truly customer oriented.

anthonyraynor Yeah, even with this deal it's still $200. I scan in all my important docs, but can't justify yet another program. Even though I just bought NeatCo's portable scanner with software off of woot for $79, with it usually costing $200. The only downside so far is shipping has taken over a week and it's still not hear. It was in Charlotte 3 days ago and I only live 1.5 hours away, come on FedEX, really?

disenchanted T Raynor,
Thanks again for the 50% off code.

I have been on Abbyy's UK mailing list for years, after registering V5.0 Pro
(I am still using the full version of Abbyy Finereader pro V5.0 I got in a UK computer magazine shortly after V6.0 was released) .

I can't believe abbyy.co.uk sent me 2 emails in Aug 2010, but neither mentioned the 10th anniversary with it's associated 50% discount.
[Unless abbyy.co.uk is not offering the same promo]

I contacted sales@Abbyy but am still awaiting a response as to:
- whether my V5.0 pro will register okay if I purchase the V10 pro Upgrade for $90 instead of the V10 full pkg for $200.
- and if not, whether they still allow competitive products the same ability to use the UPGRADE version, [I also have Omnipage, Textbridge, Adobe and Readiris in that case]

[I found a finereader 9 Pro licensing agreement olnine that allowed competitive products to use the cheaper Abbyy Finereader UPGRADE package; but nothing saying the same licensing applies in V10 though.

Thanks again

anthonyraynor Hopefully you can use the code. I have FineReader Sprint that came with my Epson V500 photo scanner, which I love! I could maybe stomach an upgrade price, but in my current situation even $200 is too much for something that I only use to scan in personal docs.

disenchanted I finally received an answer from Abbyy.

They DO allow older versions of Abbyy finereader,
and/or
competitor scanning software, to use the upgrade version
of Abbyy finereader V10

Per Abbyy rep:
[Yes, ABBYY USA still does offer the upgrade for users of FineReader 5.0 Pro. You are eligible to purchase the Upgrade of FineReader 10 Professional or Corporate Editions. Also, we do offer the upgrade price for all uses with a competitive OCR product already installed on their computers].

anthonyraynor I e-mailed them and have yet to hear back. I am still using NeatWorks and it's doing a pretty decent job. PaperPort is the winner for functionality of everything I have tried, but it is a drain on resources and freezes frequently. I hate that as it fits my needs better than anything, but it's performance is quite lacking.

John Cummins Had the opportunity to download it from another site but didn't because of the size. I am still kicking myself.
