~kdm I have tried this out, and this beats any of the competitors cold! You can search through every type of file and this program will find what you are looking for, period. Unlike many other search program (especially the Microsoft search) this is the greatest search program that I have tested, and I have tested many.

Mike G Microsoft Search has improved quite a bit, but still leaves some frustrating gaps--including lack of basic features like exporting search results to text or other file formats. I just discovered Agent Ransack, the freeware version of FileLocator Pro. I can only say, "Where have you been all my life?" If FileLocator Pro appears on Bits, I'll be standing in line to snap it up!

Mike G Actually there is another freeware version called FileLocator Lite. According to MythicSoft, FileLocator Lite and Agent Ransack are identical except the former has a more coporate friendly name. I'd still like to get the Pro version if it goes on sale...

Richard Blake I'm seriously interested, too. Note liberal license policy:

* Can I install FileLocator Pro on my desktop PC and laptop
with a single license

The FileLocator Pro EULA states that: "A single user licence will license one copy of the SOFTWARE for USE on one MACHINE by a single user. It does not permit the USE of the SOFTWARE by anyone other than the named individual LICENSEE."

Since we understand that many people have more than one computer we do not mind if you install FileLocator Pro on up to three computers with a single license as long as you are the sole user of those computers (e.g. this exception does not apply to servers or shared computers).

TopDog This looks so much better than Microsoft search. It frustrates me that when I do a search and get a ton of results the path to each file is not displayed.

TopDog I could not wait any longer. I tried Copernic. It was slow, very slow and somewhat buggy, difficult to use. Then I tried X1 Search. I ended up buying X1. It is fast both in search and indexing the files. Does a great job and you can refine searches. The license is not as liberal as FileLocator Pro and it cost a little more but I was growing wearing of waiting and had become so frustrated with Windows search I had to find something.

I am very happy with X1. I think it is the best and cost was not as important as finding something that would suite me needs.

Benjamin User If you have a mac, you can buy Tembo which is great and cheaper. I discovered "FileLocator Pro" by looking on alternativeto.com, an alternative for "Tembo" on PC and I found this one among a lot of other software like "Copernic Desktop Search" which is also quite expansive....

Anyone tried "Copernic Desktop Search" could tell me which one is better ?

Bernd User FileLocator Pro is the best I've found the last years.
* It has a very lot of search-filters
* It has a very good preview
* It searches each search at all wished locations. Thats better if I don't know if there are some altered files I'm looking for
* It is possible to create an index too...
* It' very better then lookeen, which is created for outlook and looks like...
* It's very better then Desktop Search I've use before

Krista User I love the customizability of the boolean searching - and of course .pst files takes the cake! I hate searching directly in Outlook! Thanks ;] Krista Stephenson

David F Yes, I feel same way. I wish Mystic Software would provide FileLocator Pro for us BitsDuJour customers. I have ver 7.0, but I like supporting them. I know v8.x has come out, don't know what's in it. But, I like supporting Developers to let them know that people care & want them to continue Development.

So, yes, BDJ, please try to ask them to come onboard.

Thank you, DavidF

TopDog Update from my post of 2013. X1 has been on my computers since 2013. It was my go to. I still very much like how it works and how it displays results. However as of Windows 10 it became very slow in indexing. Apparently it does not update an index but seems to completely re-index each time it starts? If you have a ton of files like I do you can Imagine how annoying this can be. At any rate I am going to try File Locator Pro sometime this month. And although the interface does not look as simple to use as X1 I am hoping it is much faster.

Kash Kasen Hey BitsDuJour. So have you guys asked MythicSoft about making an arrangement for File Locator Pro? Even if they haven't said yes-- I think we're curious to know if you've reached out to them yet.
