Don Goddard Adrian, Thanks so much for sharing your valuable experiences. It often seems difficult to cut through hype and useful software is hard to find. I will definitely remain open to this one.

If you want a simple, single file, place on webpage software application try amara slideshow builder. it has some degree of flexibility (not a great deal) but maybe sufficient for your needs.
It generates a single flash file that you just embed on your website. I use both, depending on how simple/complex you want it.

I also use the amara slide show builder to generate flash banners.

Take a look at http://www.dentontownfc.co.uk. it has both amara and photo flash maker built slideshows and flash banners.

It's horses for courses at the end of the day.
