3 Wheel Buggies

3 wheel buggies offer superb maneuverability in a stylish and sleek frame. Many of these feature an upholstered sling seat that has a cosy lay flat bed and a perfect weight distribution, perfect for babies from birth.

The wheels are bigger and often have suspensions for smooth movement on various terrains. The only drawback to these wheels is that they can be heavier and bulkier to transport and store.

Stability

Three-wheel buggies provide lots of stability. They don't tip over more easily when going straight. They also allow you to maneuver them more quickly. However, if you try to stop or turn abruptly they'll lose their stability and may fall over. Some manufacturers add an additional wheel to their 3-wheel buggy designs in order to improve the stability of the chassis.

You can also tackle off-road terrain using the additional wheel. Look for Pushchairs And Prams that have air-filled tyres (also known as pneumatic tyres) as these can cope with off-road trails and other surfaces like sand, mud and rock. They'll also typically have an adjustable front wheel that locks to add stability over really rough ground.

The buggies are easy to maneuver and agile, thanks to a 360o front swivel wheel. They will also pass the same stability standards globally and test as 4-wheel buggies.

If you're looking for a fabric seat they are typically smaller in the frame as compared to modular seats. This means that your baby's centre of gravity will be closer to the ground, instantly ensuring an easier ride.

Best known for its car seats, Maxi-Cosi has recently added a light pushchair and travel system to its line-up with the attractive Citylife. This 3-in-1 model is designed for urban living and can be used for newborns with a car seat or carrycot for infants. It has four wheels and has an exclusive black pewter frame, which the company claims is 'light and compact'. It's only 2cm wider than the Babyzen Yoyo.

Folding

There's a variety of 3 wheel buggies that fold down to fit into smaller space. They can be folded with just one hand, and are easy to wipe down. Some of the smaller models have a simple handlebar-height adjustment, whereas others come with adjustable suspensions and an ultraviolet canopy of 50+ that can be extended. Some models may have an enormous basket as well as a brake lever that's quick-release.

The most efficient 3 wheel buggy for tackling rough terrain

A 3-wheeled buggy is usually better equipped to deal with off-road conditions as compared to a 4-wheeled model, though both can be a bit stuck on tight corners. A model with larger front and rear wheels can help. This makes them easier to push over uneven ground and will often help with getting up and down high kerbs.

The brand new Roma Atlas has been praised by many for its remarkable agility despite its 3-wheeled design. MFM reviewer Kath used it with her infant and 3-year-old and said "it is very well-handled over bumpy pavements, cobbles, dirt roads and gravel tracks as well as on some hills."

Stella, the new 3-wheel all-terrain buggy from Maxi-Cosi is another great option. It's suitable from birth when used with the carrycot and is a smaller than the light 4wheelers (with an impressively slim 54cm wide frame) however it has large air-filled tyres, three recline positions, and a swift one-hand fold.

Its main selling feature is its modularity. It's compatible across all the brand's baby strollers and car seats. This means you can build your ideal travel system for day-today or longer walks, using just the chassis as a starting point.

Tyres

The tyres for 3 wheel buggies are available in a variety of styles and materials, and each comes with its pros and cons. For instance, air-filled tyres offer an effortless ride and superior manoeuvrability while foam-filled tires are more durable. The type you pick will depend on your needs and where you live.

For instance, if are planning to travel frequently on unpaved paths or rough terrain, you might be interested in an all-wheeler with more durable tires. Think about the kind of suspension you need. A sturdy suspension is helpful for handling bumps and humps, however it can be heavy and contribute to the overall weight of your pushchair.

The size of the tyre is crucial. Understanding how to read tyre sizing is crucial for maintaining safety, performance, and durability. The combination of numbers and letters on the sidewalls of tyres can appear confusing until you get the hang of it, you can understand the dimensions of the tyre. For instance, a tyre's size of "185/70 R14 is a sign that the tire is a 185/70 radius with 14 inches of rim diameter.

PU tires are lighter and more puncture-resistant than rubber tires. If you're unsure whether a pushchair's tires are rubber or PU, simply slide the tires across a smooth surface. If they slide easily, then the tires are made from PU. If not, they are made of rubber.

Suspension

The suspension of a three-wheel buggy will make it more comfortable for your child since it will absorb any knocks or bumps that occur from rough terrain. A large wheel which are filled with air and are lockable to provide stability when jogging crucial to ensure that your buggy is capable of maneuvering off road surfaces easily.

There are many choices for buggy designs to fit every lifestyle and budget. For instance, the Mountain Buggy pioneered all terrain agility in a three-wheel buggie. The sling seats made of fabric are designed with precise design and engineering to fit snugly inside the frame, rather than sitting on top like modular seats. This gives a lower center of gravity and allows it to be placed at the right height to spread weight evenly to tackle the kerbs.

The Urban Glide 2 by Thule is a great alternative. It sports a sleek design, a large wheel that is easy to maneuver and comes with a superb suspension. It also comes with an adjustable handbrake that can be turned to make it easier of use. MFM reviewer Kath put this buggy through its tests by walking on a rough terrain. She found that it handled it really well and said that it "navigates over bumpy grass, cobbles, sidewalks and dirt tracks and makes it easy to go up and down kerbs".

The Roma Atlas, like the Urban Glide 2 is a popular off-road choice. It is available in a range of colors that will match your style. It also comes with an adjustable handlebar, a large basket and a 50+ UV hood. You can also choose from a range of infant car seats that will transform the buggy into a pram. This includes the stylishly designed Carrycot Plus(tm) which is a comfortable lie-flat baby bed suitable for infants and newborns from 12 months old.

Safety

Four wheels make the buggy more stable and less likely to tip over and easier to maneuver. It can also be more secure for your child as their weight is distributed more evenly across the frame of the pushchair.

A four-wheeled buggy also tends to have a lower centre of gravity and therefore is more easy to roll over curbs and up the stairs. The seat made of fabric is in the frame instead of sitting on top like modular seats. This creates a low seating position and a comparatively lighter buggy that can be easily maneuvered.

However, if you'd like to go out for an exercise with your child then a 4-wheeler may be more suitable as it comes with suspension that allows the front wheel to move independently of the back one which allows you to navigate rough terrains and bumpy roads be aware that not all buggies with 4 wheels are suitable for running (most are NOT, such as the Phil and Teds). The exception is Mountain Buggies which have a specially designed suspension system that has been independently tested across all terrains.
