After the Isolation tour the guitarist Steve Lukather and drummer Jeff Porcaro decided to add a second keyboardist as well as a vocalist to the group. They auditioned several musicians including Fergie Frederiksen, before choosing Joseph Williams.

In 2018, Toto released a new album titled Old Is New and embarked on a world tour to promote the album.
