Once in the easy-clean position close the window to reset the hinges back to their original position.

Fire-Escape Hinge

Fire Escape Hinges commonly referred to as "Easy Clean" hinges are used to replace side opening windows to allow escape (fire safety) reasons. These hinges permit more space in the event of a fire. Building regulations stipulate that this type of hinge should be placed in any space that is habitable and has a window.

They feature an exclusive friction stay that opens the window to 90 degrees and allows the opening sash to slide across when it is open to make it easy to clean the external side of the glass, without having to use ladders. The hinges are easy to operate and don't have complicated buttons or catches. They can be operated from inside of the home using a simple, safe lever.

Find the length of the side-hung window hinge that is attached to the frame. (See the guide on measuring upvc window hinges). Then select the correct size hinge from the selections below.

It is important to note that this measurement is taken from the part of the hinge that connects to the frame and not the sash. The actual hinge length may be shorter or longer depending on how your windows were made in the past. When choosing the width of the hinge most frames made of upvc will have with a height of 13mm however if your previous window frame measures 17mm, then select this option. You can also use the 4mm packer in order to make up the difference. All hinges come in two different directions (1 left and one right). Screws are not included with the hinges. If required, these screws can be purchased separately. We recommend using our upvc window hinge repair screws. They are specially designed to improve the performance of your hinges, allowing them to operate smoothly for a longer time. They feature a design with reduced friction and an enhanced weather seal that includes caps made of nylon.

Restricted Hinge

There are times windows need to fully open and this can be a problem with a standard hinge. RepairMyWindowsAndDoors are a solution to this problem and provide a solution when ventilation is required but access to clean up or escape in the event of fire isn't possible. They work by restricting the amount that the sash can open and allow the to override this restriction by pressing the push of a button. They can be used for side and top-hung windows. They are available in 13mm and 17mm stack heights.

The Nico Restricted Egress Friction hinge combines the advantages of a standard restrictor with a fire escape hinge to provide an efficient and simple method to meet building regulations. It is available in 13mm and 17mm stack heights and can be used for the top and side openings of uPVC window. It is available as a pair of hinges where one hinge is the restricted egress and the second is unrestricted, allowing one hinge to be fitted at the bottom of the sash while the other is attached to the top.

These uPVC restricting hinges have been tested to BS6375 part 2 and are designed for use on a window that cannot be opened fully such as a small children's bedroom. The mechanism limits how far the sash opens up to 100mm in a safe distance, and re-engages once the window is closed.

Like the other kinds of uPVC friction hinges, these can be used on all styles of windows and are suitable for hard to reach windows above the ground level three-storey flats and those that typically require a ladder to reach them. They can be improved by our security enhancements, such as hinge guard protection plate or dog bolts, to achieve PAS 24 performance.

It is crucial to take measurements of the hinges on your window to ensure that you get replacements of the same size. The easiest way to accomplish this is by looking at the hinge in the gallery and determining the best place for it to be placed. Top hung hinges are restricted on both sides and the side-hung hinges are only restricted on one side.

Standard Hinge

A standard hinge is made of metal-to-metal contact and no extra parts to decrease friction. It is available in a variety of finishes and also comes with a fire rating. For a quick way to determine the radius of your hinge put it on its flat surface and align a dime and quarter in two corners. If the dime fits better than the quarter, the corner is rounded by 1/4 inch; if the quarter fit better, it's rounded to 5/8 inch.

The proper hinge can enhance or break the look of your door. It's essential to match the style and finish of your door with the hinges to create a seamless design that is both functional and visually attractive.
