Evolution Korea

Korean scientists don't take any chances in the fight over evolution. The Society for Textbook Revise has been fighting to get rid of Archaeopteryx, horses and other symbols of evolution from textbooks.

Confucian practices, with their emphasis on worldly success and high valuation of learning, still dominate the country's culture. But Korea is looking for an alternative model of development.

Origins


The development of Iron Age culture brought more sophisticated states like Goguryeo Baekje and Silla to the Korean peninsula. They all had their own distinct cultural style that merged with influences from their powerful neighbors. They also embraced aspects of Chinese culture including Confucianism, Buddhism and shamanism.

Goguryeo the first of the Korean kingdoms was the first to establish their own form of government. It consolidated its authority at the end of the 1st century and established a king-centered governing system by the beginning of the 2nd century. Through a series of wars, it eliminated the factions that were loyal to the Han dynasty from the north of the peninsula and expanded its territory in Manchuria too.

During this period, a regional confederation called Buyeo was created. In the Samguk yusa of the 13th century Wang Geon's name was recorded as the king. Buyeo became known as Goryeo and this is how the name Korea was created. Goryeo had a strong commercial and economic system, and was a centre for education. The people who lived there cultivated crops and raised livestock such as goats and sheep and they made furs from them too. They performed masked dance-dramas like tallori and sandaenori. ???? ??? ?? celebrated an annual festival in December called Yeonggo.

The economy of Goryeo was boosted by brisk trade with other countries as well as the Song Dynasty of China. Byeongnando was the main entry point to Gaeseong which was the capital of Gaeseong. Traders came from Central Asia, Arabia and Southeast Asia. Silk and medicinal herbs were among the products they brought.

Around around 8,000 BCE Around 8,000 BCE, the Koreans started to establish permanent settlements and began cultivating cereal crops. They also invented pottery and polished stone tools, and started organising themselves into clan societies. The Neolithic Age lasted until the 12th century BC. Around this time Gija, a prince of the Shang dynasty in China was believed to have introduced a high culture to Korea. Many Koreans believed, right up to the 20th century that Gija and Dangun gave Korea their people and their basic culture.

Functions

Korea's previous development model that emphasized the importance of capital accumulation by the state and government intervention in industries and business, aided in rapid economic growth, which took it from one of the world's poorest nations to the ranks of OECD countries in just three decades. However, this model was plagued by moral hazard and corruption that was outright, making it unsustainable in a global economy of trade liberalization, liberalization and democratization.

The current crisis has exposed the weaknesses of the current paradigm and it is likely that a new model will replace it. In spite of the fact that participation in politics in Korea is extremely restricted new forms of democracy are emerging that override political parties and challenge them, transforming the country's democratic system.

Another important finding is that the power and influence of the Korean elite has diminished. A large section of society feels disengaged from the ruling class. This suggests the need to work harder in the field of civic education and participation and new models of power sharing. Ultimately, the chapter concludes that the success or failure of Korea's new development paradigm will be determined by how these new trends are incorporated with the ability to make tough decisions.

Benefits

South Korea is the world's ninth-largest economy and sixth fastest growing. It has an expanding middle class and a strong R&D base that drives innovation. Additionally, the government has recently increased investment in infrastructure projects to aid economic growth and promote social equity.

In 2008, Lee Myung Bak's administration announced five leading indicator in an attempt to create an economic system that was focused on changes and practicality. It made efforts to streamline government organization, privatize public companies with more efficiency, and also reform administrative regulations.

Since the closing of the Cold War, South Korea has been working on a plan of economic integration with the rest of the region and beyond. Exports of high-tech consumer electronics as well as advanced manufacturing technologies have become a major source of income. The government is also pushing Saemaeul Undong, which is a new community movement, to transform the country from a society that is primarily agricultural into one that is focused on manufacturing.

The country has a great standard of living and provides many benefits to employees including maternity leave and job stability. Employers are also required to sign up to accident insurance that covers payments for work-related illnesses or injury. It is also common for businesses to offer private medical insurance plans to protect against illnesses that are that are not covered by National Health Insurance.

South Korea is viewed as a success model for many developing nations across the globe. However, the global financial crisis that swept through Asia in 1997 challenged this view. The crisis shattering the conventional wisdom about Asia's miracle economies, and caused a fundamental rethinking of the role of the state in regulating the risky private sector economic activities.

In the wake of this transformation the Korean future is still uncertain. A new generation of leaders have adopted the image of an "strong leader" and begun to experiment in market-oriented policies. On the contrary, a strong domestic power base has made it difficult to make fundamental change.

Disadvantages

The reemergence and influence of creationists is a major hurdle for Korean science in its efforts to inform the public about evolution. While the majority of Koreans support the teaching of evolution in schools, some creationist groups--led by a microbiologist called Bun-Sam Lim, who is the head of the Society for Textbook Revise (STR)--is advocating for its removal from textbooks. STR claims that teaching evolution promotes "atheist materialism" and creates an "unhopeful" worldview for students, which could cause students to lose faith in humanity.

The reasons behind this anti-evolutionary sentiment are a bit ambiguous and varied. Some researchers suggest that it is due to religious belief, while others point to an increasing prevalence of anti-intellectualism, which has been exacerbated by growing political elite fragmentation along ideologies, regions, class, and gender. The one-sided populism that is backed by powerful conservative think groups, business interests, and other influential groups, has also led to a growing distrust of the scientific community.

In the end, the numerous vulnerability that were identified in this study indicate the urgent need for targeted policy interventions to minimize these vulnerabilities. As Seoul continues to work towards becoming a more cohesive urban environment, these insights provide a basis for an unifying push for greater inclusion in its policies.

In the COVID-19 case, identifying vulnerable neighborhoods and their occupants will be crucial to drafting specific, compassionate policies that will bolster their welfare and security. The COVID-19 epidemic's disproportionate impact on Jjokbangs for instance is a reflection of the socio-economic differences that can increase vulnerability to both natural and man-made catastrophes.

To overcome this, South Korea requires a more inclusive and diverse civil society that brings together all communities to solve the most pressing issues facing the city. This requires a fundamental change in the structure of the institution, starting with the power of the presidency. The Blue House can mobilize a large bureaucracy, and use the Supreme Prosecutor's Office, and the intelligence bureau to exert political influence. These agencies are not under the scrutiny of institutions of the parliament or independent inspectors. This gives the president the ability to impose their vision on the rest of the nation. This is a recipe for political polarization that could lead to stagnation and polarization throughout the country.
