What is a bedside crib?

A bedside crib (also called a co-sleeper or bassinet) is a small infant crib that can be attached to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep comfortably next to you. It is a safe method of co-sleeping and doesn't increase your risk of SIDS like bedsharing. It can also help you bond with your newborn baby.

The crib can be locked in place once the rocking is done to stop it moving. It can also be secured to the bed's side by a strap and clip attachment. The Iora is a bassinet for infants designed to help parents feel closer to their baby while they sleep. It can be adjusted both up and down and moved to three different slide positions to fit under the bed of the parent or in the corner, so that the baby is always at hand. The mesh siding allows air to circulate through, allowing you to quickly see your baby. And you can store extra pajamas and supplies in the large storage basket underneath.


The Iora is a bedside crib that is smaller and can fold flat. It also comes with a travel case so it can be carried anywhere. Our mom testers were able to move it from room to room and believed that it was a suitable size for a bedside cot, and not too big or small. The large storage basket is ideal to store bedding and nappies.

This is a great option for parents who wish to co-sleep, but don't wish to share their bed. If one of the parents has mobility issues, such as back pain or arthritis. Our mums who tested it were thrilled to be able to easily access their child while in the Iora and that it included an option to have a reflux incline which helped alleviate gas.

Our moms are thrilled that the mattress adheres to NICE guidelines. They recommend placing the infant in the Moses basket or crib on its own, without blankets, toys and pillows. The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for babies and sheets are easy to find. It's not as light as some of the cribs that are smaller on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier to move around, consider a different alternative.
