A robot vacuum will keep your floors tidy enough to decrease the frequency of manual hoovering. Find one that has excellent navigation, is able to clean stairs and corners and has a huge dust bin that needs emptying only every few times.

There are models that mop and charge themselves This is an advantage that is essential for families with pets or children. The top performers in our tests have great obstacles to avoid.

1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO, are identical robots that differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ a good choice for people who want a hands-off, fully automated cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of having to empty their dust bin manually as it gets full.

Both robots are adept in removing dirt and dust particles on floors and carpets, and they can easily maneuver around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes smart maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ doesn't have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or other top-rated robots we test. It could be stuck on power cords or socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces like hardwood and rug.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include clearing out any toys or clutter it may encounter. It's also recommended to keep the bin and filter clean so that they don't become clogged with dirt. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station and automatically empties the dirt into the station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning from where it began. The battery's life span is approximately an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes about three hours to fully charge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line and comes with the most recent features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. the most crucial feature of all -- it comes with a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ can keep up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to create maps of rooms so that it can clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot with voice or via the app.

The i7+ is faster and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. click here to read has over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin, which eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and to move around the room and vacuum a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. Once connected we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums that are cordless and feel like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like a sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces fade-free power for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system is able to trap allergens and then lets cleaner air into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets and collect large crumbs or fine dust. It has three suction modes to match the task at hand. It quickly switches from handheld to floor vacuum and back.

The model also comes with docks that charge to 100% in 3.5 hours and offers an easy access to two attachments as well as an Wand clip. This is a major improvement over older Dysons that require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its short run time. Its claims on the market that it has up to 60 minutes of run time are not true as CR's tests show. This is an average and not a remarkable time for the battery-powered cordless vacuum. That's still enough run time to vacuum the majority of a typical-sized home but not long enough to cover every spot (though a second run-through usually can be effective). However, this model doesn't have its advantages: It's lighter and maneuverable than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming performance is noticeably superior on carpets with a low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of the most well-known robot vacuums, the 694 is a basic model that's an excellent option for those who don't want to spend too much money on a robot. It's capable of sucking up most debris types and sizes during our testing, and it often passes over the same areas many times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front end helps to get into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice addition.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it isn't equipped with the ability to map that comes with more advanced models like our top picks and the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. Because of this, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and often will run out of battery before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694, as it has less parts that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, incurs lower recurring cost, has more advanced automation capabilities and can better maneuver itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and can charge faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also comes with physical boundaries strips and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It also feels better-built and has a stronger motor, and works better on floors that are bare and carpets with a low pile, as well as offering a wider range of features for automation.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name is seen on a variety of home electronics It's no surprise that they're also one of the most popular mop and robot vacuum manufacturers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is loaded with cutting-edge onboard intelligence technology to aid in navigation and obstacles avoidance.

The app offers a wide range of options for customizing your robotic cleaner. This includes virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior customizations docking frequency settings and many more. It's simple to comprehend and user-friendly, as is the case with other Samsung devices.

In our testing our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and dealt with dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86% of it. However, it did not do particularly well with larger objects, like cords and socks which was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested, and this could be a deterrent for certain shoppers.

The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that you can access through the app, and you can also set up a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you check in on pets or children when you're away from home. The dustbin and the filter can be cleaned for the quick and easy cleaning. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with an automatic clean station which helps keep the bin clean and improves suction power.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard flooring. They have a wider cleaning path as well as a large dust bin that can hold 2X more debris than competitors to keep the cleaning area free of debris for the longest period of time. Plus, they include two side sweepers that clean along edges and in corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model also comes with AutoSense technology, which senses the presence of dirt on surfaces or embedded dirt and then automatically adjusts the power level. It also has a smart app that lets you view the virtual map and manage the functions and schedules. You can also monitor the status of the vacuum and connect it to the dock for charging with the click of a button. The app allows you to customize the LED lights on the top of the vacuum so that you can determine where it is focused or if it's stuck.

The app allows you to steer the robot manually when needed. For example my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that can trip up some of the other robots I've tried. However the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, but it didn't register it as a cliff. The ability to program a cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving convenience.
