Choosing a 3 Wheel Double Stroller

It's among the top side-by-side strollers we've tested that offers an easy ride over rough terrain and easy turns in tight spaces. It's a great jogger, and folds easily thanks to the self-standing feature.

However, it comes with double-action brakes which require the depression of two pedals and does not accept infant car seats. This could be a major issue for some parents.

Safety Features

Three-wheel double strollers are more stable than four-wheel models for those who intend to walk and run. This is because they have two wheels on the ground at all times, while some four-wheel strollers permit one wheel to rise off of the ground when navigating curbs or other obstacles. The trade-off is that three-wheelers are heavier, which could be a concern in the event that weight is a factor.

Some 3-wheel strollers have pneumatic (air-filled tire) tires. They are ideal for people who want to jog, and prefer a more comfortable ride than the hard plastic wheels on certain products. They require routine maintenance, pressure checks and a tire repair kit as they are more susceptible to losing air than the tires on solid tires. The recommended pressures are available in the manual of your stroller or on the website of the manufacturer.

Strollers that have adjustable handlebars can reduce the stress on the arms, neck and back of the person driving them. The ideal position is close to your belly button with your elbows slightly bent and your hands relaxed. A front swivel lockable wheel can be helpful for uneven or bumpy surfaces.

You should always test the parking brake on your stroller to ensure it operates quickly and easily. Also consider whether the stroller comes with windows that can be opened to peek at and/or a reclining seat. These features are useful for toddlers or infants who is prone to napping while you're out and about.

The best double strollers for jogging come with an adjustable tracking. This feature helps keep the front wheel running straight while jogging. 3 wheel buggy prevents veering that is constant, and eliminates the need to constantly correct yourself while running.

It's important to check whether the double strollers folded size can fit inside your trunk or home before purchasing. Make sure you know the shipping and handling costs since they can quickly increase. Think about any additional features you might need or avoid, such as snack trays and speakers built into the stroller that could make the stroller heavier, less aerodynamic, and pose a risk to children.

Maneuverability

When selecting a stroller, the ease of maneuvering is a major consideration. Due to their size, weight and the additional passengers, double strollers are more difficult to maneuver around tight spaces. This can be a problem when trying to navigate busy sidewalks or supermarket stores with little ones in the stroller.

While some of our top strollers -- like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double -- are extremely easy to push, other strollers struggle because of their flexing frames or wide-set wheels. They're also generally heavier than many other double strollers, which makes them harder to lift and transport when not in use.

There are a variety of strollers that provide outstanding maneuverability without breaking the budget. The double kit of phil&teds allows you to convert your jogging stroller into a double stroller that is compatible with a car seat for infants. This is a great choice for families growing or with small spaces.

Other models that are ideal to navigate narrow sidewalks include the Baby Jogger City Mini Quad and the Graco SnugRide 30 Elite Double Stroller. The latter has an integrated cargo basket that will aid in keeping your clothes organized walking.

Jeep Destination Double Side by Side Ultralight is another good stroller that is able to be pushed. It's a light stroller that is easy to fold and set up. It is compact and comes with a storage box. It's also compatible with a variety of infant car seats, including the renowned Graco SnugRide 40 Elite Double with the purchase of an adapter (sold separately).

If you're looking for a multi-purpose stroller that will grow with your family, consider the Vista Double v2 from UPPAbaby. This unique product was designed to be used as both a double stroller and a bike trailer that lets you enjoy outdoor adventures with two kids simultaneously. It's also compatible with a variety of infant car seats, including the Nuna and Maxi-Cosi, but it requires an adapter, which must be purchased separately.

Comfort

If you are walking for hours with your kids it is important to choose a stroller that is comfortable for both of you. A great double stroller should provide a smooth ride, support both seats with adjustable safety harnesses with five points and provide ample storage space for toys and snacks.

A cushioned handle is crucial to ensure a comfortable push. A swivel wheel in the front is useful especially for joggers to navigate around curbs or narrow spaces. The possibility of locking the front wheel swiveling for more comfort is great for taking the family on a long walk or jogging.

Another important feature to look for in a double stroller is a quick folding operation that can be done with one hand. In our tests, the UPPAbaby View double v2, Evenflo Pivot Xplore Wagon and Joovy Zoom X2 Double had the most efficient folding systems.

In the course of testing we searched for a variety of seating configurations that could accommodate the different needs of families. The UPPAbaby Vista Double won the top spot in this category, as it can seat twins in two separate infant car seats, or accommodate a third person with the addition of a riding board. This model also provides the quickest and easiest assembly in our test group, taking only 15 minutes from start to the end.

The storage in most double strollers we tested was adequate, but certain models are more accessible than others. The UPPAbaby and Joovy Caboose ultralight graphite both have large baskets that are easily accessible and can hold up to 30 lbs. Evenflo Pivot Xplore comes with a large storage bin. The Joovy Caboose comes with smaller bins that are difficult to reach due to its location located under the sliding rear seats.

A 3-wheel double stroller is a perfect option for parents who want to take their children out on jogs or hikes. These models come with swivel and locking front wheels for increased maneuverability and have a reclining seat and a ratcheting shade canopy that can keep your children at ease. These models also have parent trays, cup holders and a basket for storage for the necessities.

Storage

A quality double stroller will have ample storage for the two of you, your kids' drinks and snacks, and all other things you might need. The amount of storage available varies significantly between models. Certain models, like the Joovy Caboose Ultralight Graphite, the lightest stroller we've tested, and the brand new Summer Infant 3D Pac CS+ double stroller, have just two cup holders for parents and hanging bags of storage behind each seat. Some, like the UPPAbaby Vista Double or Joovy ScooterX2 have large baskets that are easy to access.

The best double strollers come with additional features, like extendable canopies and reclining seats that let you adjust your child's ride according to the weather or mood. And many of them offer car seat compatibility so that you can use them from the beginning, and later add a child seat or glider board when the time is right to grow your family.

Compact 4-wheel strollers have been designed to be lightweight, easy to fold, store and move. They are perfect for parents who utilize their strollers for running errands, or to make short trips to parks. They are generally less expensive than jogging walkers, but they may lack certain features and space you require for longer outdoor activities with your children.

The Baby Jogger City Select Double Stroller is among the most popular compact double strollers available on the market because it starts out small and folds easily to fit into trunks and closets, making it easy to store and remove at any time. It's available in several colors and can be customized using a variety of accessories such as a pram accessory to hold babies that weigh up to 25 pounds. It's a Disney-approved item, so you can bring it with you on your next trip!
