He believes in "thinking internationally but doing it locally" to impact society through the power of the local church. Tony and his wife Lawana reside in Louisiana. They have five children and three grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter Holly Ranee Hunter and son Travis Lynn Hunter, his mother Lynda Kaye Phelps Hunter, sisters Ronahkaye Shrum (a.k.a Mopsy), and nephews Zackary and Adrian Hunter.
