Driving License Category A1

Driving License Category A1 permits you to drive motorized two-wheeled vehicles. It permits you to drive mopeds and small motorcycles that have engines that have no more than 11 kW.

Prerequisites

A driving license category is only available to those who are 16 years old. This licence allows you to drive light motorcycles while categories A2 and A are for larger motor vehicles. You must also complete an initial-aid course and theoretical training that follows the entire syllabus. Different driving schools offer this course. All driving schools follow the same curriculum, even if their prices might differ.

The practical training comprises several driving lessons. The classes are between three and four hours each. The amount of training hours depends on your ability and progress in learning, however the syllabus requires at least five hours of instruction on federal roads and 4 training hours on country roads. Anyone who wishes to drive vehicles in category C must hold a driver's license of category B or more. A person with a category B licence can continue their training for category A1 with an easy-to-follow program. However they must pass at least ten theory lessons and ten driving classes in a driving school. In Belgium A full category-A licence is required to drive a three-wheeled moped or motorcycle. You can only ride a motorbike in full category A1 if hold a full A2 or A2 licence. Theory test

The Driving License Category A1 exam is a two-part exam that comprises a theoretical portion as well as a practical part. Practical test

You can also drive tricycles with three wheels (trike) with this licence when it has an engine capacity of up to 125 cubic centimeters and a power/weight relationship of not more than 15 kW per kilogram.

Before you can get your license, you'll also have to pass a medical examination. You must also provide evidence of a first-aid course and pass a vision test. If you are under 18 years old, you'll need the consent of your parent or legal guardian before you can apply for the driver's license.
