They're also quiet, which makes them a great choice for homes with pets and young children. You can use a robot to clean your floors on a schedule in case you don't have the time to do it yourself.

Some of the top-rated robot vacuums come with large easy to empty dust bags which can hold more dirt than a single room. This will save time and money in the form of replacement bags. This feature is available on a variety of models including our top model, the Ecovacs T30S Combo. This all-in-one robovac is a top-performing robovac that comes with a self emptying bin. It also has a mopping feature and efficient navigation. This is a close race between the iRobot Roomba Combo j9+ and this one, which is equipped with the latest technology for avoidance and smart mapping. The robovac is more expensive, but it has a larger capacity.

The two models differ in their handling of long hair, which could get tangled up in the rollers of some robots. The best-performing models are the Roborock Q5 Max+ and SwitchBot K10S Plus, both have superb hair pickup and tangle avoidance scores, along with excellent path planning and close to perfect auto empty results. The Shark Matrix Plus and eufy are also good options with respectable hair pick-up and tangle avoidance, but not as much path planning or auto empty.

The latest robots are fitted with sensors that detect dirt and debris on carpets and they are more adept at picking up pet hair. Some models even have a mopping mode that uses the reservoir of water to wash away the stains and spills. This feature is a must-have for families with pets as well as children.

Maintenance

Having a robot vacuum can be a huge help in keeping up with your home. While no robot is able to replace an upright or canister vacuum for deep cleaning, the top models that are rated highly pick up pet hair, lint and other surface dirt on carpets and floors with low pile and pick up more than you would find using a broom. They have navigational features that keep them from getting stuck on power cords, rug fringes or furniture.

According to the model, you can schedule a robot vacuum to run several times a day or watch it in action using an app. However, these useful vacuums are also prone to clogging and require frequent maintenance, such as emptying the onboard bin (or the base's bigger dust bin in certain cases) as well as checking the brushes for hair that has become tangled and regularly rinsing and letting the filters dry as recommended by the manufacturer.

Emily Rairdin is a vacuum expert and store owner apprentice from University Vacuum + Sewing. She claims that a robot vacuum can last for three to five years with proper care. She recommends regularly emptying the brush roll and bin and cutting out hair that's tangled up in the brushes and regularly cleaning and drying the filter in the event that your robot acts as mop. It's a good idea wipe the charging contacts and sensors on the dock or robot with a soft, clean cloth every now and again. Then simply recharge and refill the robot whenever you need to for the next time you clean.
