A 2 in 1 Travel System

A stroller and car seat combination is the ideal choice for anyone who wants to travel comfortably or create a modern version of the pram. Check the specs to ensure that your stroller and car seat are compatible, or you can consider buying an adaptor.

Travel systems that have been evaluated by editors allow you to transfer your sleeping baby from the car to the stroller without disturbing them. Some travel systems include the option of a carrycot that encourages the natural sleeping.

Car Seat

A 2-in-1 travel set that includes a stroller and a baby car seat that snap together. This is a great choice for parents who regularly do errands or take their child on public transport or rideshares. "You'll have less gear to deal with," explains Graco spokeswoman Rachel Stanton. "And it's great for families who alternate between public transportation and carpooling with other moms."

Doona infant car seats and latch bases are a top option, with 90 percent of Amazon reviews rating it five stars. It's a rear facing car seat that converts into a stroller with wheels in a matter of seconds. The wheels fold underneath and it's small when not in use. 2 in 1 pram stroller can also be attached to a car's backseat by using the rigid LATCH base, or to taxi-safety belts. This makes it perfect for urban families.

The Mamas and Papas pramette is another great car seat/stroller combination. It has the pram with a hood that can be opened and the front seat can be lowered so that your child can lay down for naps or for feedings. It has a spacious basket with cup holders to store everything your baby needs as well as a tray for parents and sun shade. The stroller seat is able to recline in multiple positions and even flat so that your child will be comfortable on every ride.

Other important car seat features to consider are the weight and height limits, as well as whether the infant car seat can be used only with a backseat car belt or has an additional layer of protection that includes an integrated LATCH system. Find a lock for the handle to ensure that the handle stays in the right place. You can also tilt the handle towards the seatback in the rear to create an anti-rebound bar.

It's worth noting that travel systems work only with infant car seats--and extended-use car seats that are able to later turn forward-facing do not snap into strollers. For this reason, many mothers opt to purchase a separate car seat and stroller when their child grows out of the infant seat.

Stroller

A stroller is a vital piece of equipment for any new parent. Some travel systems have a baby pram which can be converted into a comfortable carrycot for infants. This is a great option for parents who don't want to disturb their baby while traveling. Depending on the brand it may also come with a car seat and stroller combination that connects to one another. This means you can keep your child safely secured in the car seat and then transfer them to a pushchair without disturbing them, which is ideal for long trips and busy shopping centres.

A quality stroller must be equipped with a variety of features that make it practical and easy to use. It should include a large storage basket that can hold essential items such as nappies as well as toys and snacks. It must also recline so that your baby can sleep comfortably. It should also come with an adequate canopy to shield your baby from sun and a lockable front wheel to ensure safety. It should also be lightweight and compact for storage and transport to and from the car.

Editor-tested travel system strollers like the UPPAbaby Cruz v2 Combo, Chicco Keyfit Caddy and Doona Combo all offer convenience by connecting to a variety top car seats that snap to the frame and fold easily. Some models also have a single wheel on each leg, making them more maneuverable and roll on different surfaces.

Ideally, a stroller should be able to function through toddlerhood - and beyond if you require it to to transport your child to and from school, activities and play dates. This is why you should choose a stroller that has an open-air seat that faces the world (and reclines) after your child has outgrown the car seat.

If you intend to use your 2-in-1 travel system on public transportation choose one with an ISOFIX base so it's safe to hop on and off trains or buses. Certain models, such as the Doona can be fitted on trains and planes to make traveling with your baby easier.
