A truly all-terrain pushchair has a great suspension that is specifically designed to be smooth on rough terrain, helping your little one to feel comfortable and relaxed. The wheels are usually big and puncture-proof, preventing injury caused by sharp rocks or sharp sticks.

A lot of these pushchairs can be used from birth, either with the carrycot or a newborn-ready car seat. Be aware that when pushing over bumps and dips, the seats aren't completely flat - as per EU regulations they only have to meet minimum requirements for recline of around 150 degrees. Graco has solved this issue with its new 'comfitech seat suspension' that lets the seat to recline at a more rounded angle for a bit more comfort. This feature is available on the Lila XP All-Terrain Pushchair, that can be used in conjunction with a compatible Graco Infant Car Seat to create a 3-in-1 travel system.

Wheels

All-terrain pushchairs are essential if you live in the countryside or take your child on regular walks on rough terrain. These pushchairs have larger wheels on the back than regular pushchairs, which allows them to deal with bumpy terrain better and provide a smoother ride for your child. Many models also have robust suspension that is puncture-proof so they can be used on woodland paths or forest paths, gravel roads and market town cobbles.

Some all-terrain pushchairs also feature a lockable front wheel which offers extra stability when walking over rough terrain and over high kerbs. Some models have swivel wheels at the front, which allow you to move the buggy with ease when you need to change direction or turn corners.

Most all-terrain pushchairs have air-filled tyres that provide excellent shock absorption and are great for rough terrain but they're more prone to punctures than solid EVA tyres used on lightweight city strollers therefore it's a good idea to invest in a repair kit along with a spare inner tube and pump alongside your pushchair. Some all-terrain models have foam tyres that are less susceptible to punctures but they're not as good at absorption of shock and can be harder to push than tyres with air filled.

A hood that can be removed and brushed down with cool soapy water is a useful feature that can help prevent mildew and mould from forming.

If you're planning on driving your all-terrain pushchair off road it's a good idea to choose air-filled tyres instead of those with rubber grips. These will provide an easier ride on rough terrain and make it easier to navigate through tight spaces. If you intend to use your all-terrain stroller for occasional jogging, be sure the front wheel is able to swivel or features a quick release mechanism to ensure it is locked in place for more stability.

To keep the fabrics in pristine condition, it's important to ensure that they can be washed by a machine. If not, a spot wash with soapy water, warm, and warm water should be sufficient. The fabric can be dried completely outside to avoid mould or mildew.

The majority of our 3 wheel all terrain pushchairs are suitable for use from birth. You should look for models that have a fully lying-flat seat with reversible backrest.
