Driving License Category A1

Driving License Category A1 permits you to drive motorized two-wheeled vehicles. It allows you to drive small motorcycles or mopeds with engines with a power output of no more than 11 kW.

The procedure to obtain this license is a little different than other categories. Let's review the steps:..

Prerequisites

You must be at minimum 16 years old in order to obtain a driving licence category A1. This license allows the driver to operate on a motorcycle that is light, while A2 and A are reserved for larger motor vehicles. You also need to complete an initial-aid course and theoretical training that follows the complete program. There are a variety of driving schools that offer this course. All driving schools follow the same curriculum, even though their costs might differ.

The practical training comprises several driving lessons. These lessons run between three and four hours each. The instructors will teach the basics of your motorcycle and the fundamental rules of road. The amount of time you spend training depends on your learning performance and abilities, but the syllabus requires that you attend a minimum of five hours of instruction on roads that are federal and four hours of riding on country roads. You are also required to attend several specific riding lessons, which are designed to enhance your abilities in difficult situations.


Anyone who wants drive vehicles in category C must hold a driver's license that is a category B or higher. Anyone who has an endorsement of category B can continue to learn of category A1 with an abbreviated course, but must complete a minimum of 10 theory and ten driving lessons at an instructor. This is not feasible for those who has an A licence, which is the reason the training for this category starts at a younger age.

The restrictions on this kind of licence are intended to ensure the safety of everyone involved. You can remove them if you can prove that you are able to drive larger vehicles safely.

In addition to having a valid driver's licence and a valid driver's licence, you should also have a medical certificate. Based on your health status you may be required to pass an eye test or other tests. You can upgrade your license by adding an endorsement. This usually requires passing a knowledge test as well as, sometimes, a skills test.

Training

To get a Driving License Category A1, you must pass both the theory and practical test. You will also have to attend theory classes and receive a course. This training will teach the fundamentals of motorcycling, including traffic laws and regulations. You can apply this knowledge in future driving. During the course, you will become familiar with the standard test material and also the additive that contains the specific requirements for the license category.

Once you have successfully completed the theory and practice tests, you are now able to drive a car with an engine capacity of up to 125cc. This includes motorcycles without a sidecar, tricycles, and mopeds that have three or four wheels. The vehicle cannot weigh more than 400kg with no load or be able to carry more than 750kg. You must also be 16 years old to get a license for this class.

It is possible to upgrade from Category A1 to a full category A driver's licence at the age of 20 if had a subcategory A2 driver's licence for two years. This permits you to drive vehicles with the maximum authorised mass (MAM) of up to 750kg as well as subcategory A and A1 motorbikes. You also need a category E licence to tow trailers with a maximum authorised mass of more than 750kg.

It is important to remember that you must have the permission of your guardian before you can apply for a Driving License category A1. In Belgium the full category-A licence is required to drive a three-wheeled motorcycle or moped. You are only able to drive a motorbike in the full category A1 if have a full A2 or A2 licence. In other countries, it is possible to gain access to a higher license category by first gaining experience driving less powerful motorcycles. In Germany for instance after two years' experience with Category A1 motorbikes it is enough to pass the practical exam instead of the theory test, to upgrade to category A2. In Austria, it is also possible to get the full A license after five years (with an overall of 9x1.5 hour of training).

Theory test

The Driving License Category A1 exam is a two-part test which includes a theory and the practical portion. The test is designed to provide you with the basics of understanding and knowledge of the highway code. You must pass both tests to obtain your license. You can take the test before or after you complete the mandatory basic training (CBT).

The theory test section includes 50 multiple-choice options which you have to correctly answer. It is recommended to study thoroughly prior to taking it and to attend a theory course at a recognized driving school or a motorcycle training centre. You can also practice answering questions online.

After passing the exam in the theory section, you can arrange a test in the practical. You must present a valid driver's permit and identification proof to the test center, along with the vehicle you will be using for the test. You must also wear a motorcycle helmet and carry all the safety equipment you require.

Once you've passed the practical part of the test, you will be issued your driving license within two weeks. It will be marked with a gold band around the expiration date, and you will need to show it whenever you are asked to show it. You won't be able to drive in any other vehicle on your driving licence, and you must renew it at least every two years.

Practical test

The practical test for the Driving License Category A1 exam is divided into two sections. The first is the examiner's checking and getting your motorcycle ready for driving. Then, you will do various practical tasks on a test range. You will be required to complete an angle start, which entails moving away from behind a parked vehicle. You will be required to make numerous hill starts as well being asked to turn left and right in the road. In addition, the examiner will require you to take a specific route and follow the road ahead unless told otherwise by radio.

The test is comprised of 50 multiple-choice questions, and you must pass these tests to earn your licence. You can take the test either in a training center or independently. You can prepare for the test by taking an instruction course at the driving school or in a training center. You can monitor your progress and determine the right course for you using the Drivers Cam app.

You must have completed at least five hours of training on Federal or country roads, 4 training hours on highways and 3 training hours in the dark or at dawn before you can take the practical test. These hours are in addition to the regular training you need to complete while taking motorcycle lessons.

After passing the theory and practical tests, you will be able to obtain a Driving License Category A1. This license permits you to operate a motorcycle with a maximum engine displacement of 125 cc, and an engine power/weight ratio of not more than 11 kW/kg. You can also drive tricycles with three wheels (trike) with this licence provided that it has a capacity for the engine of up to 125 cc and a power/weight ratio of not more than 15 kW per kilogram.

Alongside the driving test you must pass an exam for medical reasons before you can obtain your license. You must also provide evidence of a first aid course and pass an eye test. If you are younger than 18 years old, you must have the permission of your legal guardian or parent to apply for a driver's license.
