Buy a Driving License Without a Test in Germany

If you are a citizen of the EU or a national from one of the countries that has a reciprocity arrangement with Germany You can exchange your driving license without taking any tests. You must however pass a practical test before you can drive on the road in Germany.

The first step is registering with a German driving instructor. You will take the theory and take practice classes for a cost.

Theory test

You must pass a theory test to be able to drive in Germany. This is the first step in the process and it will determine if you're competent in understanding the laws of traffic and safety. The test will also reveal whether you are able to identify potential road hazards. There are many ways to prepare for the theory test, including studying the official questions and taking online tests to practice. You can also seek advice from an instructor for driving. They offer study packages which include software programs and textbooks. They also have a responsibility for their students and monitor class attendance.

The theory test is split into two parts. The multiple-choice test is followed by the hazardous assessment test. For success you must be able to pass both tests. The time required to complete the test varies from person to person, but you should take at least 90 minutes. You can book an online test with your name, birth date and provisional license number. Make sure you've entered everything precisely including middle names.

Practical test

To get your driver's license you must pass a practical test. The test is conducted by a trained examiner who will require you to show your ability to handle different road situations. During the test you will also be asked questions about the technical aspects of your vehicle. It usually lasts 45 minutes and can cost anywhere from EUR120 to EUR200. After passing the test, you'll receive your German driver's license. The driving license is valid for a period of 15 years. In the initial two years new drivers are subject to a probationary period called Probezeit. They are also penalized more severely for traffic offenses.


Before you can take the test, you'll have to complete an entire series of driving lessons with your driving school. The driving schools will register you for the test and make sure that you're prepared for them. The test will cover a variety of aspects, including traffic laws and safety issues. It is important to practice at least as many times as you can. In Germany 36% of applicants fail the theory test.

The cost of the lessons differs between schools, but most driving schools charge between EUR1,500 and EUR2,500 for the entire process. Sign up for driving lessons at a school that provides discounts for foreigners. If you're unemployed you could apply to the Jobcentre for a grant that will cover the cost of the driving lessons.

After having passed the theory and practical tests, you must submit a driving license application to the Fuhrerscheinstelle in your city or town. You will need to submit your passport, a valid medical certificate and a letter declaring that you're capable of driving. In addition, you must show proof that you've completed an initial aid course.

If you're a resident of an EU/EEA member state or a US State that has a reciprocity deal with Germany, then you can exchange your license without having to pass the theory test or the practical test. In other situations you'll need to pass both. You must also be able to pass a current eye exam and first aid training.

Passing the test

If you hold a driving license from a different country with which Germany has an agreement of reciprocity, then you may not be required to pass the German theory or practical tests. However, you have to submit an application and pay the appropriate fees. The process can take several months. Additionally, you will need to complete a first-aid course and an eye examination.

The theory test consists of 30 multiple-choice questions you must answer correctly. You can prepare for the test by reading the manual and taking practice tests. There are a lot of online resources, including apps and websites that provide practice questions. Be prepared because one third of students fail their theory test.

You also have to be able to complete a driver's instructor-led lesson and practice under various conditions for a certain number of hours. This is referred to as Pflichtstudent, and it's an essential element of the learning process. You'll need to attend about 20 lessons in order to take the test. During your lessons, your instructor will assess your progress and determine whether you're ready to the next step.

You'll need your ID card or passport as well as a certificate of your driving school when you are ready to take your practical test. You will also have to pay EUR 25 for the test. You can prepare for this test by attending a theory class, which are normally offered weekly.

It's not easy to pass both the practical and theoretical tests so make sure to study hard! If you fail the test, you'll have to retake the entire test, including completing additional driving lessons.

Once you've passed both the tests After passing both tests, you can get your German driving license from the Fuhrerscheinstelle. You will receive an interim piece of paper to use as your driving licence until you receive the official one. This will arrive by mail a few weeks after. You can now navigate through cities, complain about unprofessional drivers and complain about the shortage of parking spaces - but you'll also be able speed on the Autobahn!

Requirements

If you're not a EU citizen and you decide to move to Germany it is more difficult to get your license. This is because German law requires that you give up your old license and obtain a new one within six months of moving into the country. Only in the event that you have a reciprocity agreement with Germany and the German authorities will allow you to exchange licenses. Australia, South Korea and Canada are some examples.

Finding a driving school that meets your needs and enrolling in driving lessons are the first steps in obtaining a license without the need for a driving test. The student is typically required to complete 14 double-hours of training in theory prior to being allowed to take the practical test. The school will also be registered with the local driving test office and handle all the administrative tasks.

After you have completed the theoretical and practical training you will receive an Fuhrerschein. This allows you to drive on an unrestricted license for a period of up to 6 months while you wait for your German driving licence. During this time you are not permitted to exceed the speed limit of your vehicle or transport passengers. You must also take a road safety course as well as a first aid course.

After passing your Fuhrerschein successfully You are now able to take the German Driving Test. This computer-based test covers the basic rules for driving. The test includes questions about traffic laws, and test your understanding of road signs. The test consists of two short written exercises on the fundamentals of driving. The test may be between 30 and 45 minutes.

You may have to take the driving test several times before passing it. You can take the test as many times as you want, so long as you are waiting two weeks between each attempt. If you're prepared it is possible to pass the test on the first attempt.

After passing your test, you'll receive a driving license that permits you to drive cars that are up to a specific class. If you wish to drive a car of higher class, you will need to go through additional training and take additional tests.
