Filter Coffee Makers

In a sea of costly barista-like coffee machines, filter coffee makers are the dependable, simple original method of making coffee. They are inexpensive and can be found on the high street for around PS20.

These coffee makers for filtering typically come with normal functions, such as the ability to wake you up with a pot of coffee at just the right moment. They heat water to the perfect temperature to brew filter coffee.

1. Chemex

Since its invention by Peter Schlumbohm, in 1941 the sleek and fashionable glass Chemex has become a favorite for coffee enthusiasts. The flask's hourglass shape is reminiscent of an Erlenmeyer flask, which is likely the reason for the name (or maybe Fleming was inspired by it when writing From Russia With Love). It has been a specialty coffee icon due to its elegant design and crystal clear filter brews.

Similar to other pour over coffee makers, such as the V60 dripper as well as the Melitta filter coffee maker is a manual method of brewing where hot water is poured over pre-soaked grounds in a steady, controlled manner that permits an even extraction of flavour. To get the best Chemex brew, it is necessary to use medium-fine grinds and the correct filter. Contrary to the thin paper filters used in the majority of filter coffee machines, Chemex uses thicker 'lab-grade' filters which remove more of the coffee fines and oils that can make your brew bitter. taste.

The beverage will be ready to drink once the Chemex has been filled. It is a good idea to let your brew "bloom' for 30 seconds before pouring, this helps the ground to expand and absorb the water, ensuring that it isn't over extracted.

The only downside of the Chemex coffee maker is that it takes more time to make a cup of coffee than other filter coffee makers and requires a bit of expertise to get the best results. It's not as good at making large batches of coffee as an electronic filter machine. It's therefore better suited for those who prefer the manual method of brewing and smaller batches.

2. Moccamaster

The Moccamaster may not have the bells and whistles more modern devices do, but it's still a reliable machine that will never be outdated. The method used to brew coffee heats water just above boiling temperature which is perfect for filter coffee since it prevents bitterness.

It's energy efficient because the Moccamaster can keep the water at the ideal temperature throughout the process of brewing. Its design makes it easy to take apart and clean, to ensure that the components remain clean and fresh in between uses.

If you are looking to make a great cup, you should use a medium-fine ground. This is the same as a Chemex brewer or pour-over. This will ensure that the grounds are evenly distributed and do not block the water flow. The Moccamaster comes with a showerhead that sprays grounds evenly to ensure that they are extracted.

Another excellent feature of the Moccamaster is that it's easy to maintain. It's made from high-quality materials, such as stainless steel and BPAand phthalate-free plastics. Its flat water tank cover is a breeze to remove, and its wide mouth makes it easy to pour water into--which can be crucial during those coordination-challenged predawn hours.

The Moccamaster is a fantastic option for those who are looking to invest in a premium filter coffee maker. Its build quality and functionality are backed up by an impressive list of coffee aficionados who are using it in their cafes, roasters, and coffee shops--including the triple-Michelin-starred restaurant Alain Ducasse! 3. Wilfa

The Norwegian company Wilfa produces outstanding filter coffee makers that focus on functionality, simplicity and a stunning design. Their products are the epitome of Scandinavian minimalism. The Classic Tall Filter Coffee Maker, for example, has a cool, nerdy design that makes it stand out. It also exudes confidence with a a 5 year guarantee warranty that ensures the durability of this premium filter coffee maker.

The design of this brewer makes it easy to install, fill with water and start brewing. The brewer comes with an 1 litre water tank that is easy to clean. The pump technology ensures the entire system is completely emptied after each brew. This is in contrast to other filter coffee machines that leave water behind and affect subsequent brews. This allows you to use fresh water for each batch of coffee, ensuring that your coffee will always taste good.

The Classic Plus has a simple but elegant design. It has a variety of useful features, such as a flow control wheel that you can manually adjust (close it for a few minutes to ensure an even stronger beverage) as well as an overflow drain in your filter holder, a reminder to descale your appliance, an automatic shut-off and a drip stopper manual to prevent spills onto the hotplate. this guy heats water to the desired temperature of 92-96degC.

The brewer can make between one and 10 cups of filter coffee, each cup is approximately 250ml and takes around three to four minutes to prepare. The brewer includes an insulated thermo jug made from stainless steel to ensure that the coffee is at the perfect drinking temperature. This is an excellent feature and an important selling advantage over other filter coffee makers that only keep the coffee warm on hot plates.

4. Bonavita

This best-rated auto drip coffee brewer can help you make the most of your coffee. The Bonavita Connoisseur has a minimalist design and is simple to operate. It features a stainless steel carafe with an 1.3-liter capacity and is compatible with standard flat bottom filters (not the #4 cones that are recommended by Moccamaster and other SCAA-certified equipment).

The Bonavita is a simple and clean design. It also has a built in filter holder that holds the filters while brewing. This makes it easier to avoid any mess that may occur during the process of brewing. The machine has showerheads that spread water evenly across the grounds. This allows for better extraction of flavors.

The Bonavita's ability of controlling the temperature of water precisely is a further reason why it's a great filter coffee maker. Thermocouple readings from the brew basket confirmed that the water reached the desired temperature within minutes. The average temperature of the brew basket remained at 194.6 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the remaining time of the brewing process, only swinging just a few degrees either direction.

Like other programmable filter coffee makers such as the Bonavita can be programmed to turn on at a specific time and set to a particular time for brewing. It is also able to be set to a certain size of brew and temperature. This makes it possible to make just one cup at a time which is ideal for busy families.

The Bonavita isn't equipped with a pre-infusion feature that can enhance the flavor by allowing more coffee grounds to be saturated with water. It can also be difficult to determine accurately the amount of grounds of coffee needed as different coffees are of varying density. The most precise method to measure the amount grounds is to weigh them using a scale rather than using the use of a teaspoon.

5. Melitta

From the brand that invented filter coffee, is this machine that has several features that improve your coffee drinking experience. The filter holder comes with an anti-drip stop to prevent spills when removing the jug. It also has a handy keep-warm function, allowing you to enjoy freshly brewed coffee for up to 40 minutes after the brew has been complete.

The jug, filter basket and lid are made from high-quality borosilicate crystals. They are easy to clean by hand or in the dishwasher. The epour also comes with a practical LED limescale indicator that lets you can tell when it's time to descale. This model also has an inbuilt bloom setting that helps release CO2 that has been trapped and unintentionally released. This could lead to a bitter tasting cup of coffee.

If you're looking for a machine with a small footprint, this is the one. The Aroma Elegance is only slightly taller and wider than the Moccamaster It can still fit in a corner due its angled design. It has a easy to use selection button layout and can be easily operated using just one hand. The tank of water is easily removed, making it easy to fill.

The machine can be programmed to prepare coffee at a particular time. This can help save time and effort by allowing you to wake up to a fresh hot, warm filter. Aroma Elegance also has other functions that will improve your brewing experience by allowing you to program water softness, auto-descaling and three settings to keep warm. Melitta utilizes chlorine-free paper and sustainably sourced materials in its filters. This is reflected in their packaging and products which are 100% recyclable.
