World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its base stats increase in value. This is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.

It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at the lower levels). The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the power of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's an excellent gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it's able to deal. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a vendor.

On your PC, you can see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full description of the item, including its value. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about how the item level calculation is made. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets boost the value of the item. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is usually very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

However, this is not the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl as the level of the area the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, for example by adding a level to its haste or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses them in many ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's level.

Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. An item that is white or grey for instance, will only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers may be upgraded several times at higher costs.

Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all shapes and sizes. Affixes are used to give items additional damage or other special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to differentiate them by putting a name on them.

Presently, all affixes are able to be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circles arrows. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat or reroll attaches. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However, all items will include at least one stat in the range, unless they are a unique item, or the item is a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. But, like base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the likelihood of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of the properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade item s. It gives the player an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in early game runs since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances that increase with each level of the item. They can also be increased by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor, and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant a further +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.

Additionally some items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items are available in the shop or created with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%.

The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
