Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a good source of additional damage, more AD or even more attachments.

Sometimes, however upgraded Common and Magic gear is beaten out by Rare-grade equipment due to their requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be applied to armor and weapon items. They boost the stats of whatever item they are attached to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of the game and are available from Blacksmiths on bonfires. Alternately, they can be salvaged from items with upgrade components inside them, using a specialist or more powerful salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it will take on. The ability to absorb damage of an armor piece will increase when it is upgraded to the maximum upgrade level. However, it's important to note that this will also raise its weight, requiring it to be heavier than it was before.

There are several different types of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each has a different effect. Some upgrades give armor an additional amount of health points while others make it lighter and more powerful. The type of armor upgrade that an item can receive is indicated by the name of the upgrade, as illustrated in the table below.

Some of the upgrades are also magical or a combination of technology and magic which is identified by a "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Additionally, some upgrades require a fee to use, which are indicated by the "Charges" entry in the table below. These charges are continuously updated or never expire depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest method of upgrading armor is with Iron Ore, which can be gathered by exploring the area and looting minor loot chests. Titanium is more expensive but can be found at the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, like the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide significant improvements in stats and are a worthwhile investment, particularly for one-handed weapons.

A piece of armor upgraded to its maximum upgrade level will dramatically increase its defense capabilities but the wearer must be aware that increasing its weight will drastically reduce its agility and speed. Therefore, it is generally not recommended to upgrade most armor pieces that are higher than +9 since the added defense is usually not worth the extra weight and power costs of the upgrades required.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can increase the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Certain weapons come with special enhancements to enhance their intrinsic qualities. These include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and reduces the risk of the risk of overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases projectile acceleration for more damage).

All tiers of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler, with the exception of the rare and legendary jewels that require you to be at a sufficient level to obtain the privilege of having them. In contrast to other upgrade components, jewels are able to be swapped by a different jewel of the same type without destroying it. You can only replace the jewel only once in a piece of equipment.

Using more jewels in a movement will make it more smooth and is usually done to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. The jewels also improve performance and create an outer layer that is more durable than steel so that repeated friction from pivots do not damage them.

In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades additionally, players can get glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs give a slight boost and can be freely swapped, but they're not guaranteed to be available as loot. Trinkets


Trinkets are a great way to provide your hero with various small, but valuable advantages. You can find them in the starter area as loot or personal story rewards. They can also be obtained from vendors as well as through the completion of road interactions. They can also be crafted by jewelers and later found or purchased at the Trading Post.

The first trinkets that a player can unlock is the cloak, which grants a small, but valuable boost to speed of movement and evasion. The player can then collect necklaces, amulets, and rings in a similar fashion as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of gear comes with one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal upgrade or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be put into any type of equipment, however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and only works with certain types of trinkets.

These trinkets can also grant buffs and skills that are active when the hero is not in combat. This lets a hero be more efficient when they are not active. It can also compensate for the absence of good slots in the team or talent tree that are normally filled by the hero's best stats.

As a general rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best in Slot) items you won't replace anytime soon. Also, consider items with desirable stats that aren't as important as the iLevel of the item that is to be upgraded. This is especially true when you're looking to upgrade several statistics on an item. It's more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat instead of two subpar ones.

At the beginning of the game, players who are in the jungle will typically want to upgrade their trinket into a red one, while top and middle players usually choose the pink or green ward (depending on the game's matchup). These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's map control abilities.

In addition to the items listed above, players can also find other trinkets in the form of rewards and trophies throughout the game.
