Buy a Real Driving License in New York

How do you get a Real ID

Whether you're looking to upgrade your driver's license or obtain an enhanced license, or even a REAL ID card, you will need to gather all the necessary documents. To accomplish this, you'll have to schedule an appointment at the New York Department of Motor Vehicles.

When you schedule an appointment, bring all the documents that you have to the DMV, so they can be checked and scanned. This will help you avoid any problems when you are trying to use your original driving license for any reason. Also, remember to carry a valid form of identification, such as your birth certificate or passport, or any other state-issued document.

You will need to submit two proofs of residency in New York if you are applying for a REAL ID (Enhanced ID) or REAL ID (Real ID). It can be as simple as a credit card statement, utility bill or pay stubs showing your name and New York residence. Any document that contains an address such as a P.O. box or a nickname on it will not be accepted.

What documents do I need?

Prepare your documentation and be ready to take the vision test at your DMV appointment. Be sure to bring a pair of eyeglasses or contact lenses if you require lenses. Once your documents are in order, you will be able to get your upgraded or REAL ID and start traveling with confidence. The DMV will display a gold star in the upper right corner on the new card to signify that it meets federal requirements.


What is the cost?

A real driving license is a state-government-issued document that confirms a person's identity and allows them to operate certain types of motorized vehicles. The Real ID Act has been modified to allow citizens of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Palau and the Republic of the Marshall Islands which are residents of the Freely Associated States, or FAS. This modification, which was made as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 allows them to obtain a full-term Real ID.
